Rules Question - coasts of Bulgaria and Spain
Suppose there are two fleets, one in a province with two territories and another in a territory adjacent to both coasts of that province (e.g., Spain(sc) and Mid-Atlantic Ocean). Can the fleet from the Spanish south coast move to Mid-Atlantic while the fleet from Mid-Atlantic moves to the Spanish north coast, or do they bounce?

Analogous questions could be posed for Spain/Portugal or Bulgaria/Constantinople.

How can I get an unpause?
Player was banned for using slurs, game paused while he was banned. But now we have one player who has not been seen since Wednesday and the game will not unpause. How is this rectified?

Could a mod please check players in this game?
No one writes. Three players with similar log in times all fail to move. Game histories in common. Very odd.

Hispano Hablantes?
I never unpaused it and feel I have a legitimate reason. I made a post that I suspect meta-gaming and now the only ally I had has been replaced.

Awesome-Off, Version 2
The original thread could go on forever, and, since people get bored of voting for the same person repeatedly, it has little chance of actually finding the most awesome person ever. I suggested an alternate contest, and it was suggested that I start another thread. Rules for this contest posted below.

What if Italy started with two fleets?
I think the game would be much more balanced for Italy. The other would presumably start in Rome, which would give him a chance at getting two builds the first round, with Greece and Tunis. OK, well, he wouldn't really have much of a chance in Greece, but he would be able to be much more effective in negotiations.

That is the most common variant of diplomacy. It is called "fleet Rome" and it means precisly that. It allows Italy to attack France early, but prevents him from attacking Austria early. I personally prefer it the way it is, because Italy's easiest gains lie in the Balkins, while France can easily defend itself. Not to mention. Italy still can't support an attack on Marsailles until year 2, given that he leaves Venice open. But yes, it gives him more influence on Greece while still securing Tunis.

"Fleet Rome" makes Italy much harder to play, and it makes Austria much easier.

In the first seven player game I ever played in, we actually decided to start Italy with four units, giving Italy its fleet in Tunis to start with... We also did a "draft", so the highest number got to pick which great power he wanted first and Italy was selected last, though we had a rule that if you didn't make your pick within 24 hours you were given whatever great power was alphabetically first of the remaining great powers and the guy picking stick was givien Austria, so Italy may have gone 6th... Anyway, I also remember drawing France and Italy blitzing me straight out of the gate, but something quickly came up in the east and he ended up backing off just as quickly... and then quit and someone else took over that was an arrogant SOB and was eliminated pretty quickly... It was an interesting experiment though!

One of the pirated versions of Diplomacy in Brazil had Fleet Rome as a standard. The result was that Italy was crushed repeatedly and that Austria became a top tier country. Most common openings were with France or Germany sending one army down to team up with Austria and take out Venice automatically.

Fleet Rome is a horrible alternative as I see it.

I agree with EdiBirsan: Fleet Rome makes Italy much more susceptible to an early death via attack from Austria, France, Germany, or some combination thereof.

Perhaps a better alternative would be making the Italian home supply centers Venice, Apulia, and Rome-Naples (combined to form one province). With an army in Venice and fleets in both Apulia and Rome-Naples, Italy would have the flexibility to attack Austria in 1901 (F APU-ADR), to fully defend against an Austro-French attack (A VEN-TRI, F APU-ADR, F ROMNAP-ION), or to even set up defensively for a Lepanto-style attack on Turkey (F APU-VEN, A VEN-ROMNAP, F ROMNAP-ION).

That alternative was something I just pulled out of my arse so go ahead and rip it apart if you like :)

The West-The East
I far as I can tell from my bias media that Russia (Which the news is against) and the EU is stopping short of open war over Kaliningrad Missiles Crisis (which thankfully the Russian backed off), South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the EU eastern expansion, and that Russia-Ukraine gas dispute. Seems to me events are shaping yet another cold war but, I can’t tell with these idiots who report the media here.

The lack of etiquette of dragging a round out...
When you're losing or not doing well, it's really quite crass and buffoonish to "punish" the entire rest of the game by waiting until the end of every single round to put in moves. Obviously, the game is played by people all over the world, but when you quite clearly log on and off during a round without finalizing simply to run out the clock, it's really "Bush league."

Can a mod look at this "Problem with the pot"
http://www.phpdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=7873

I think the pot actually went down after latest take over of England. Or am I not remembering correctly? I thought the pot stood at 408 before the take over. It now stands at 406.
