possible retreat bug
ok in the "Diplo :)" game i had an army retreating from triete and a fleet retreating from greece. the only free area was albania . so naturaly i assumed i would have to disband one unit. however i actually managed to set them both to retreat to alabania and finalise before i realised what i had done.
i attempted to unfinalise but the game had proceeded.
the resuls was both units were disbanded. :S
the mistake was on my part but surely it should not be possible to both retreat to the same spot and even if the orders are accepted surely at least one should remain...!?

Axis+Allies+Italy
The presumption in this game is that England, France and Russia are allies, Germany, Austria and Turkey are the Axis, and Italy holds the balance of power.

It doesn't mean allies can't attack each other, but it would be nice to see how it would unfold if they worked together!

Site downtime
I was unable to access the site for about 4 hours this morning (GMT 11:00-15:00). It doesn't appear that I've missed anything as many of my games are sitting at at the end of the phase and not processing.

Site down
The game crashed when a number of us were playing all at once. Possible a game's worth of people sending messages and posting orders all at once is causing problems.

unfinalize bug?
I was recently the last player to finalize (I assume), but clicked unfinalize. The move carried out as I had previously specified, but now I have an 'x' suggesting I have moves to perform, when the blurb tells me "You don't have any orders to fill for this phase." I think this is a bug?

Un-Finalize Moves? Missing turns?
Do you have to click "finalize" in order for your moves to be recorded or will it default to whatever you've inputted?

Once you click finalize, can you change your move if the 24 hour deadline hasn't hit?

What happens when someone misses their turn(s)?

HELP Re: Chat
I've just started up here and I've found that in communicating with the other players the chat doesn't scroll at all -- once it just keeps expanding down the page, behind the map, etc becoming totally unreadable after only a few lines of communication. Help?

Moving again
Hi, unfortunately phpDiplomacy.net is moving again, but this time it's controlled and should be much smoother, and the person running the place we're moving to actually knows what he's doing, and who was generous enough to host phpdiplomacy.net for free.
I'm hoping this will be the last move necessary before things finally settle down

I'm just arranging the DNS stuff, and once phpdiplomacy.net resolves to the new place I'll copy the database over from here. It should hopefully be pretty seamless, hopefully you'll only notice the change because of a sudden lack of database issues :)
May take 0-2 days

i think this is a good idea but the new url should be posted on this site 5 days before closure.

well, i'm not sure when the move occurred but I was unable to access diplomacy for about 36 hours (saturday morning to sunday evening US Eastern time). I missed a turn in most of my games :(
Worldbeing (1063 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
All Saturday and Sunday (GMT) I was getting a server not found or "This is the new phpDiplomacy site, the transfer should be completed shortly" error.
This has lead me to lose a turn in most games, in some cases taking serious damage.
I'm really not impressed.
I don't mind the server change, but I think if it's going to go down for any of us it should go down for all of us. I've seen my enemies having one or two moves while I've been able to make none.
And that's just not fair.
You should have at least frozen the games, if not the forums. I'm really not impressed.

I missed 1 or 2 turns too. I would also suggest to make a stop of the games for the whole weekend, if such big changes are made. So it seems, that some have an unfair advantage.

Exactly.

36 hours?! The DNS switched for me while I was asleep, which was 8 hours max, and I thought that was the downtime for everyone else so I added 8 hours on.
I have a backup from 2-3 days ago, it's not a perfect solution but I think it's the only one available.

Sorry about that, didn't think about DNS sync times being different for different people
Worldbeing (1063 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
I don't know exactly what it was, but I was checking regularly throughout Sat and Sun, and got nothing except the error I posted earlier.
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))

Damn, I cleared the backup out when the move here turned out the be successful, the last backup I have was taken a week ago, hmm..

kestasjk (64 DMod(P))

Yeah, the database from three days ago is gone :( I won't make the same mistake again, and we shouldn't have to move again anyway
figlesquidge (2131 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
Hmm.
Several of my confirmed moves have been lost and the turns since then sent. My fledgeling empire has been crushed by a computer error!
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
05 Feb 07 UTC
The DNS servers you sync with must have synced later than mine, so you made your moves on the old server.. what a mess, can't believe I didn't think of DNS propagation times :(
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
05 Feb 07 UTC
Okay my old hosts had an automated backup script, and have a backup from the 2nd Feb, so hopefully things can be restored after all :)
JonnyB.Cool (100 D)

Hmm - I also had a delay of about 36 hours. I lost the reinforcement-term in Autumn 1901. That might be crucial - especially for me playing Austria.
On the other side: When I look at the game, only half of the people reinforced - so the problem was not only on my side.

Maybe such changes could be announced earlier the next time?
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
05 Feb 07 UTC
Okay, I've restored the database to the way it was on the 2nd of February, I made a mistake importing the game messages, which I'm correcting at the moment, but let me know if you see anything else that's strange

I set the last logged in time ahead a few days so that everyone wouldn't suddenly go into civil disorder, it should take care of itself in a day or two
Worldbeing (1063 D)

Thanks for this.
I've spoken to TheDarkLord and TheGreatDekuTree, and none of us could get on.
This backup will give us a chance to play our games properly.
Thanks for that Kestasjk

Did you roll back some of the games? I noticed that 1900 Diplomacy has gone backward a few phases.
Yes, because some of us were not able to get onto the site, and others were, giving an unfair advantage to some of the players.
opripom (2853 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
Kestas, you do realise that this rollback isn't fair for everybody either. Most of us made some moves that they certainly cannot do again now, since the enemy knows about those moves ...
opripom (2853 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
Not to mention the backstabbings! :-"
Worldbeing (1063 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
Mind you, some of us (The Dark Lord, TheGreatDekuTree) weren't able to view the unrolled-back setup, and I hardly had time to check all my games- so we don't know about betrayals etc. (except for one I was expecting anyway :D)
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
05 Feb 07 UTC
opripom, I know :( But I think it's the lesser of two evils
Lord Bayleen (100 D)

I don't know about you guys but I was actually set back turns, as in we were at 1903-1904 and now we're back at 1901 and everyone knows what my moves were going to be. I don't know exactly what happened, and I am confused, but if I'm actually good at this, I will be able to work it out.
Worldbeing (1063 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
Over the weekend kestas moved over to a new server, so the domain was down for a while.
So, over Sat and Sun, most people were moving as normal, and progressing my several turns, while some (like me) were unable to access the site.
When this was realised, kestas decided to reset the game to the latest backup, so we didn't lose out turns- and several games.
Pencemeister (158 D)
05 Feb 07 UTC
so is there any reason why somebody shouldn't be able to get on at this point. Cuchulainn emailed me this: "I keep getting: 'This is the old phpDiplomacy.net server. Please clear your DNS cache, or wait for the new DNS settings to propagate'
and tell them i have already run ipconfig /flushdns"
kestasjk (64 DMod(P))
06 Feb 07 UTC
Pencemeister; could you get him to e-mail me at [email protected] , thanks
Chrispminis (916 D)
06 Feb 07 UTC
Well, at least things are back to normal a bit now. : )

I have to say that the rollback threw me off, and it was actually at quite crucial moments in all my games, and I was sad to see a lot of quick expansion work through backstabbing was erased, and newly informed nations angry at me. -_- Although it seems *most* people are willing to forgive(/crush me). Ah well.

this is a game that i personally run and the series is joinable to anyone. I had a recent complaint about creating a game called conquered worlds 3 so i have cancelled that. I will create last stand 3,4 and 5 at a later date but there are only 5 in my series
