What is the best way to reduce the amount of disinformation?
Call it fake news or whatever you want, but the dissemination of factually incorrect statements is a disservice to the electorate. We all like the first amendment and free speech, but once you have enough viewers/followers etc, should you be held to a higher standard of accuracy?

8. Do not evade silences
Silences are a last resort for forum moderation and should not be worked around. If a thread has been silenced, do not create a new one to follow on from where it left off. If a thread had gone off topic before the silence, you may request permission from a moderator to start a new one with the original topic.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
12 Mar 17 UTC
Also, please feel free to silence this since I know it breaks site rules. I just wanted Jamiet to see people care if he checks the forum without logging in.

You know shit went wrong when the person who wrote the rule feels the right thing to do is break it. Guess I didn't think of every case here.

No jmo, there are a lot of things you don't think about.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

If its any consolation I also don't think Jamie should go. Without being in on the details I think any unprofessional-ism by a moderator even if they are playing in their capacity as a member is still unacceptable. Just because you've decided to take a drink tonight doesn't absolve you of responsibility. (You being HR not jmo) This is alike to a military officer cursing at enlisted personnel at an off-base pub. The officer would still be court-martialed for not representing the military branch of service at all times.
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
12 Mar 17 UTC
I don't know or want to know the details of the problem with HR, and discussing it will make this a targeted thread. I just want a member I've gotten to know over 7 years to know I think it'd be a shame if he left.
CommanderByron (801 D(S))

Also I usually am on the side of the moderation on this site; but in this instance i feel some disciplinary action or apology should be rendered.

@Valis & jmo...tricky thing, making a thread for this
But I wouldn't have known about Jamiet99uk leaving if this thread had not been created.
So might I suggest that we make this thread about persuading Jamiet99uk to stay, not about the dispute between Jamiet99uk and HR. Let this thread be an opportunity for members to express their encouragement for Jamiet99uk to stay.
One demonstration of how much Jamiet99uk is liked is the extremely rare occurrence of blighters I'd usually regard as infernally pestilential like fiedler & Capt Brad appearing to be singing from the same hymn sheet as me "please stay Jamiet99uk, please stay & don't go" ( how embarrassing, lol )

Also, in fairness to this thread, it isn't a personal attack, thus does not continue with the thing the other thread was muted over. It is not 'following on from' where the other leftoff, because the topic is clearly distinct. (Even if it is merely a different perspective on the original thread.

Yeah this isn't the reason why the other thread was silenced so I don't understand why this thread would be.

That being said anyone shitting on HR for his conduct should just shut up. He did meme a favour by sitting his account for him, the way he decides to conduct his press is up to him. If you can't deal with the various ways people may play diplomacy then you probably shouldn't be playing diplomacy.

I dunno, DO, I've heard about cases of deliberate sabotage by account-sitters. Not much of a "favor" in that case. That may be how Jamie sees it--that or malicious negligence, given that drink was supposedly involved. I think dismissing such a viewpoint with blanket generalizations is a good way to antagonize Jamie rather than persuading him to come back.

I should say that I gave HR permission to do whatever he wanted to with that game. He's well known for unorthodox approaches so I was well aware of what it could lead to, but it's always interesting to play on from a weird position with a weird strategy :) It was not a case of 'Sitter Sabotage'.

Unfortunately some people in the game did not take to HR's style very well.

a) while I enjoy jamiet sometimes I was in the game and if he's going to be a baby about HR posting Lady Gaga lyrics on the global thread I have 0 sympathy

b) look at memes post, I'm not making assumptions meme doesn't care

This really should not be so complicated.

- If HR broke rules with abusive language, he should be penalized. (I read most of the public press and didn't see such language from HR, but obviously I can't see the private press).

- Just because HR is a mod doesn't mean that he should have to adapt his play style to the wishes of in-game competitors, as long as he plays within the rules and is not sacrificing his own country's chances for reasons outside of the game.

I'd rather not see Jamie or any other solid member leave the site. Please remember that this is just a game. Frustrating competitors come with the game, and learning how to disengage and/or minimize our own frustration is also part of the game.

Shh, it was an excellent time, and apparently using (and not abusing) mod powers as a TD was of some minor benefit to the site...

I don't know much about this situation, but while i've played with more then a few players obnoxious enough i probably wouldn't want to intentionally play with those individuals again we should keep in mind that tactics such as chainsaw diplomacy are very much a widely accepted componenent of this game. If he got way too personal or crossed lines of societal correctness that's different, but if he was just abrasive or made claims he wanted to wreck the game, well that's annoying and possibly legitimately douchey, but also on the flip-side it could easily also be strategically douchey in which case it's not nearly as sinful. Quite possible he thought being that persona would help get him ahead.

All that said, he's a competitor to my team in the World Cup so any witch hunt that is intended to boot him out i'm in full support of. Down with HR!

Ivanka Trump perfume
Yeah, I hear that it's number 1 on Amazon. But are the orders real? Are individuals buying it, or are there bulk orders from the Russians coming in? -- orders that will never be delivered (and even if they were, it takes only pennies to make perfume in China).

Reliability Rating?
Why do people make games with RR of like 25% or even 50%? Do you really want someone in a game who misses 75% of their moves, or even 50%? I don't know what the usual reliability ratings are of players, but I'd hope they are basically all greater than 80%.

Question for Trump Supporters
This is a serious question for those of you who are supporting Trump. Back in January 2016, Trump said, "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters." And it certainly looks that way from the outside. So I'm curious...what things would Trump to do lose your support?

If you're not a Trump supporter, please refrain from telling the Trump supporters who respond about why they are wrong.

Am I rebellious?
People often seem to think of me as rebelling against a status quo, but I see that differently. I do what I can to follow the path that I perceive to be right and this path happens to lead away from where most paths lead. I happen to cross boundaries, breaking unwritten rules as I go. Rebellion, to me, is about removing and destroying things you disagree with. I don't destroy, I just follow my own rules without seeking conflict. Discuss..
