Question: Is the "Republic vs. Democracy" thing just an American thing?
I've heard Americans talk about how "America is a republic not a democracy". Using the standard definitions of those words it doesn't make any sense, however if you use the ridiculous definitions those people come up with than it is true. Does anyone outside of the US use this ridiculous dichotomy or is it just Americans?

People You Know
So, when it comes to friends and family, one should only play password protected games with them. But what about people I am meeting at face to face games in clubs in my state? What about if I start getting involved in the tournament scene? How do the more experienced players on here handle it? At what point does it become inappropriate to play in public games with people you have met through the game?

In which part of Europe are people taught that the US is the greatest democracy in the world??

So to make sure I'm understanding this correctly, the proof that democrats are rigging elections is a highly edited (short form) video that says they are and a taxi driver who magically can tell if someone is a democrat or an illegal by looking at them? And this rigging only impacts thousands of votes in a democracy with over 300,000,000 people so except in a stunningly close election, it's 100% irrelevant. Throw onto that that any close election is closely reviewed for any types of fraud, further reducing any chance of this supposed fraud actually impacting the election results.

In the words of Donald Trump, I just think this guy would need to release the long form version of that video before we could believe him.

"No one is saying that Democrats have absolute control over elections, only that they can swing the vote by thousands of dead people."
Well that's strange, because no one mentioned dead voters in the video you linked, just people who manipulated the system in place to vote in a state they weren't from. And that includes getting identification to get that to work, so voter ID laws aren't helping there in particular.

@Chaqa I don't think anyone is arguing both of those at the same time. They're normally used as arguments against each other. I think people truly pick one...

I'm fine with voter ID if:
1. it is free to get one
2. it is easily available to get, and does not require too much opportunity cost
3. if there is a problem on voting day where THEY don't have your picture on file, then you're still allowed to vote (if you're registered anyways)

(right now current voter ID propositions do not meet all 3 of my personal requirements, so I say -no-)

there are many ways in which you could say these laws are racist: for example, it's harder for poor people to take time to do all this, and since a lot of black people are poor... that means it's racist right? Because if you're saying a black guy walks up to a voting booth in south Alabama, they say "can I see your ID" and then once they see the guy ON the ID is black too:

then they make sure he doesn't vote.

Because when a black person is persecuted in this country, the media NEVER covers it. It's like they go to of their way to SPECIFICALLY not to report that stuff

Look, here's the last night's interview between Bill O'Reilly and Stephen Colbert, and even Colbert admits that voter rig is a possibility and Trump isn't whining but telling it like it is. How can you possibly deny that voter fraud is real when a taxi driver has told you so and Stephen Colbert as well. Don't believe me? Watch the video.

Between 2000 and 2014 there were around one billion votes cast. Investigators found 31 credible cases of voter fraud.

In roughly the same period there were over 68,000 UFO sightings in North America. Based off of numbers I'd say alien visitation is something more worthy of investigation...

Conservatives like the voter fraud myth because they can claim the election was stolen from them. You know, instead of engaging in self-reflection and maybe realizing most Americans don't buy into their policies. They cry about everything being unfair instead of admitting no one likes them.

I don't think it's fair to say "conservatives" in general like the voter fraud myth. I'm not sure if over-generalization of either group (liberals and conservatives) serves to do anything except to polarize the climate further. I grew up in Oklahoma, lived in Missouri for seven years, and have been living in Tennessee for the last four, and the conservatives I know do not willy nilly believe these claims without seeing evidence (and they don't believe voter fraud). There is a subgroup of conservatives/Republicans who believe any and everything negative about liberals/Democrats and vice versa.

@grumbledook

I've seen that number before, and the phrase "comprehensive investigation" should have been changed to "large scale low spec investigation"

the Truth veritas video gave methods that would have slipped by the standards they used.

now, did O'Keefe you video splicing again to arouse bullshit? give it a few days and we'll see

Fair enough, Zultar. I know liberals who claim George Bush stole his elections too. It's bullshit either way. I think these claims are harmful and undermining to democracy because it calls the results into question. I really loathe conspiratorial bullshit. No one wants to admit there candidate lost because no one likes said candidate. Whatever makes people sleep easier at night I guess.

@ James. O'Keefe has an agenda and frames his work to promote that agenda. I don't trust anything he says any more than I trust anything Michael Moore says.

@orathaic

The one thing I'm sticking to:

O'Keefe's reputation is enough to call scrutiny upon the video, but it's not NEARLY enough to dismiss it entirely. As I said before, a lil more waiting is in order, and we need the raw unedited footage from those conversations.

@grumbledock and Bush 2. He did has the decision in Florida go to a supreme court decision. It is unusual for a court to make the call on a recount, that much is clear. Maybe their decision was right and above board, maybe it wasn't but i think questioning it protects the system from abuse.

It is vital that we keep scrutiny on our electoral system if we actually care about it.
