Quality Live Game
I was considering starting a RP (Rulebook Press?) around 4pm EST (New York City Time). I was thinking 10 minute phases (assuming that the auto ready on retreat and builds will save us a ton of time) I would prefer if you have at least 10 games to your name and the bet will be 50 D. add your name in list format below. I will send out the Passwords at 3pm EST

Checking adjacent territories
Is there any way to check ahead of time, in any manner, if two territories are adjacent? There are some territories that seem adjacent, but I don't know if fleets can travel between them. I just don't know how to see if they are or not and don't want to take the chance they aren't and try to move somewhere only to find out the next move is impossible

Playtesting my boardgame online
Hello everyone,
version 1 of my boardgame is finished. It was brought to my attention that it's probably a good idea to test it online. Two things needed there: 1. players and
2. some sort of adjudicator to use, with which I can easily add and move around 6 unit types, factories, territory markers and 4 kinds of resources, while also keeping track of various variables (although that can be done fairly easily outside of the adjudicator).
Can you help with either of those?

New site feature: Voice chat press
Its simple you get a 7 player game public voice chat and webcam channel. So its like the closest thing to ftf Diplomacy since sliced bread. Can you imagine the look on Valis face when I build a fleet in Mar and hes in Italian Leponto. Come on webcam and voice chat would be hilarious.

At work we're thinking of creating an app. No one knows how to do it internally. Has anyone gone through this before? Any valuable lessons learned? Pros and cons? Cost of development and upkeep? Thank you.

Design Competition
See broadexpert.com if you want to help with the design of my start-up company. You may make some money. I'm not going to a design company for a reason though :-)

Meanwhile, I want to start a discussion: I have a debating competition coming up next week and one of the statements will be: 'High school students lack ambition'. If I'm against this statement, I thought it would be a good idea to bring up the company. I'm not sure whether that's socially acceptable though?

Which people? What information have they found particularly useful?

I do like the way you ask for advice, and the the ways you respond to advice with which you disagree. I wouldn't expect you to agree with all criticism.
If this debate is " internal" eg within your debate club so the participants know you, rather than a team from your debate club in competition with people from " out of town / state" who don't know you ... If your opponents know you, and you're arguing against the proposition that high school students lack ambition....then your opponents will "see" you using your company to support your arguments a dozen country miles away, I'd suggest they'll expect you to make it a central part of your contribution (partly because of your modesty :-) ) They may well have geared their strategy in refuting your contribution on this assumption in their preparation.

Other contributors have made the point, one swallow doesn't make it summer, a " broad expert" ( I just love that combination of two words ha ha ) like yourself should be all over the opportunities to elucidate lyrically on big picture examples of masses of high school students using new technologies to act in ambitious ways that were not a behaviour of high school students in the past. Another suggestion is you could suggest that there are many more ways for high school students to express their ambitions than there were in the good old days...broaden the definition of ambition, your opponents have the blinkers on, their limited view of ambitious activity blinds them to the wondrous reality you unveil with your eloquence

@reedeer1:
Yeah I should probably remove that for now :-)

@Jamie: well, perfect example right now: someone from webdip saw this thread, went to my website and informed me that he can translate things to German for me, since he's native German.
It's good to know such things and the only reason he bothered to inform me was because he saw it mentioned on the website. Obviously I wasn't going to list everything in this thread so I just linked to the website to save me time and the forum space.

To-do list:
Remove home-button :-)
More breaks in the texts.

I'll try a few colours if no one will suggest one.

"I do like the way you ask for advice, and the the ways you respond to advice with which you disagree. I wouldn't expect you to agree with all criticism."

I couldn't tell for sure whether there's a sarcastic tone here, so I'm assuming non-sarcastic to be safe. If it is sarcasm and you think I should respond to advice/criticism differently, let me know and I'll try to respond correctly :-)

steephie, honest question #1: there are many, many free website themes out there (wordpress is just an example) that look way, way better than your site. why not use one of those?

honest question #2: what exactly is the competition? all i see on your website is a call to send you unsolicited works, which you then will name a price for (if i read that correctly). that has nothing to do with a competition.
Jamiet99uk (898 D)
29 Jan 16 UTC
@ Steephie: The grey one is the best of the designs you've tried so far. The navy one is too heavy on the eyes - it's just uncomfortable to look at.

You still need to space the paragraphs properly.

@kasimax:
#1 I'm planning to (partially) use WordPress next but I really spent an hour or two on it. It's not going to be the permanent version and I'll get there soon, so I don't want to spend time on altering things to another non-permanent version. Changing colours is seconds of work.

It's also a weird message to send to use templates when you claim you create things yourself :-)

#2: That's kind of work in progress too :-)
If I can find a new graphic designer, good. Otherwise I'll be asking around what my fellow students who are particularly artsy would need as a prize to participate if I made a real competition.

Still, the best design wins right now too. I guess I couldn't find a better word without sounding like I'll pay a lot.

@Jamie: Ok.

You said add one break, I did :-)
Jamiet99uk (898 D)
29 Jan 16 UTC
You didn't do it to all the paragraphs.

A lot of them are structured thus:

First paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph.
Second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph.

Whereas, what I was suggesting you do was:

First paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph, first paragraph.

Second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph, second paragraph.

See the difference?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
29 Jan 16 UTC
Ah I only did it between the headers, thought you wanted more space between various subjects to seperate those. The other paragraphs are supposed to be 'connected'. I guess the visuals rather than cohesion become more important on a webpage rather than an essay or a book, though.

I'll change it.

jamie already mentioned it i believe, but it's simply too big a wall of text on the first page. you can easily break that up into different pages.
Jamiet99uk (898 D)
30 Jan 16 UTC
@ Steephie: Yes, that is what I meant. You've missed a couple: "I would brainstorm" and "I'm always considering" should also benefit from a space.

Kasimax is correct to repeat my previous comment - there is just too much text here for a website front page.

I concur, but the 'real' website starts soon and it really only serves the purpose of giving people I direct there information. It has practically no SEO or whatever, so it's just functional and hardly a business card for now: people are only drawn to the site by me because they want information about something, not really in any other way right now.

Too busy to be concerned about it now and because it's more like a summary now, it would just be a third of a summary on each page and it would not be particularly functional and emphasize the current emptiness..

Russian Opening to Silesia Spring '01
This opening has become a little personal favorite of mine, (if I am Russia, France or Italy) and am wondering if anyone has thoughts, experience, or tactics to share about it. Convincing Russia to do it if you are France or Italy can be difficult -- but well worth it for all involved. You need an imaginative Russian though.
