I, for one, liked Octavious's tribute to Cake (although someone once said the cake was a lie, so...)
I, like ag, look at player tendancies as a guide. Not as much as I used to, but one example is when I was playing Russia and Turkey suggested DMZing the BLA. I checked his profile to see if the Turk could be trusted. Sure enough, he could. He also moved to Arm as a cover, so I nicely issued my fleet to bounce his army, the BLA was DMZ'd and we were both happy (although he was surprised at my fleet movement).
I also don't really take stock into forum press. I'm not trying to psycho-analyze a guy. I will say, that if you play with people enough, you learn their tendencies, and that comes in handy. One example was Draugnar. Decent enough guy when not trolling, but terribly trusting in the game itself. I knew that as soon as I saw him on the map, if I could ally with him, he would leave himself open for an ugly stab later on in the game. With Draug, patience was key. Sympathize with his rants about the other players and watch with a careful eye as he moves his units one more zone further from where you're at. Plus, if he started to get mauled, you knew he would suicide himself for you.
