I'd be remiss not to observe that the unregulated forum of 2008-2013 had a lot more traffic than the regulated forum of 2014-2017 though. (Granted, only basing this on anecdotal memory) Whether the quality of that traffic has changed (and thus the overall product) is another question.

The main good thing that's come out of the Trump presidency is people actually starting to care about the corruption of the government now that an unpopular person is there.

I think an unfortunate side effect of the presidency is the nasty batch of characters rallying around the idea free-speech is actually encouraging an adverse reaction to the notion of free speech. I think the net result is going to be a chilling effect on free speech both potentially from Trump, due to his desire to do away with certain broadcasters and from the left as a reaction to neo-nazi's associating themselves strongly with free speech rallies.

The net result is a less free country and everyone loses.
