Thank you for hosting, CB. You made it more challenging on yourself than previous sims had been and you held your own. Participation made it a challenge and I think that in the future we shouldn't start without around 10 players, but no harm no foul. I had fun.
As for why I killed brain, I think it is self explanatory. I talked to multiple councilors before doing anything and confirming that I wasn't the only one who was losing interest specifically because of brain's antics. Those of you that I didn't speak to didn't get a chance to voice your opinion and I'm sorry about that. Posting too much is a problem, but when the sole purpose of your posting is to drive others away from fighting you, debating you, discussing things with you, or wanting anything to do with you, one gets creative. I figured I would either take action or drop out of the game if the only further action I could take would be to continue arguing and debating and continue to get shouted over. Thus, I organized an attack, and won. As I said privately to brain, I'm sorry, but I wasn't left much recourse as basically anything I wanted to do or say publicly was getting drowned out and other people had simply quit trying to post. If anyone particularly enjoyed him hurting our colony's metrics and simultaneously making it far more difficult to get anything done due to the excess noise, then I apologize for overstepping my bounds.
My win condition made things more fun and interesting for me. I was supposed to ensure that the colony collapsed or was taken over by Playdipia. I had set up a couple of different ways in order to ensure that this was possible - a) I set up a system of government and got myself elected governor, and had planned on trying a couple of power plays had the game gone into my second term, and b) I ensured that no fortifications of any kind like a wall would be built before the Playdipians arrived. I had planned on working a little bit, very gradually, to raise corruption and eventually perhaps incite a rebellion of some sort, whether instigated by colonists or slaves I wasn't sure yet. I was also told some time ago that the Nain Rouge was on the island and kept it to myself for a long time, eventually sharing with Ike but without much purpose. I was excited to see him finally show up. I think I would have eventually been able to make that rebellion happen, but it would have required some serious patience, more than perhaps I had at this stage.
I would also like to say that with regard to win conditions, I didn't really focus on it all that heavily. This is a long game. Brain spoke of having a win condition privately to me where he killed a certain number of people, and then quitting the game because he didn't like it. Why? Whether you meet your win condition or not, the point of this game is to have fun, build it up, and work together in order to do something. My goal, even with my win condition, was to make the new colony successful, at least marginally so, simply because that's what I had the most fun doing. I don't think that a win condition should allow for someone to lose sight of that.
Again, thanks CB, and if we can do this again sometime perhaps with more players, that would be awesome.
