if your partner CD's or NMRs you'll be boned. We should figure out that. like, if your partner CD's you can join someone's team officially.

victory would be a solo (between 2 team members) or 4 way draw or 6 way draw or 8 way draw....

One twist with which this could be played is having the partnerships a secret. Once the victory condition is determined (which is a little rough), some answers might be more conducive to secret teams than others.

As ishirkmywork notes, this game really depends on high reliability of all the players. For that reason, I'm not going to allow players that have a poor RR or no established RR on webDiplomacy yet. Unfortunately TheFlyingJarate, that means I can't take you. Play some of the many other public games available to you and establish more of a record first - then maybe you can join in on a future game like this one. Secret partners, so you know your partner, but none of the others - that is interesting. I'd have to contact a non-participant to assign partners/pairs and message the players, but I'm sure I could find a willing person to do that. What do others think?
And I agree with Yoak - it's a 2-person "win" if they get to a certain SC count combined. We could set that to 33, the normal solo win condition, which looks reasonable. Otherwise it's a draw among all surviving teams. I don't think you need both team members to survive - a sacrifice of one player to achieve a team win is acceptable. Thoughts? Counter-ideas?

I rather like the idea of secret partners. However, due to the random nature of assigning great powers, certain pairings would be naturally stronger, perhaps significantly stronger than the weaker pairings. Moving people around to negate those advantages could give away the secret partnership.

Or, we could just let the players figure it out and gang up on stronger nations as they please. ;)

I don't think we can go completely random. For example, any pairing between two of Egypt, Spain, or Poland would be a serious disadvantage starting two or even three units down compared to other pairings. And ideally Russia starts paired with one of these three to counterbalance the extra unit he starts with. If we first assign one of these three randomly to Russia, and then all the rest are randomly assigned as long as the other two 3-unit starters don't pair up, I think that could work.

I think a completely random game sets up some challenges. It is a team game with five teams so each team needs to be balanced. It's better to sort out how the team is being setup before the game starts I think.

We could get really complicated/utterly silly with this and include bounties. Each team has 2 bounties selected from among their 8 opponents, one each on a different team (also a clue to the pairings). If the game ends in a draw, the team with most bounties eliminated has higher standing in said draw.

I'd be willing to admin such a game too, even if I would prefer to play.

Bounties...also interesting. And by that, do you mean certain countries to eliminate, or supply centers that are extra special? Both would be interesting additions.

Considering the build anywhere nature of the map, I'd say elimination of the country.
