MAGA - what a great speech! Future looks bright.
Must be exciting to be an american today. Prosperity and optimism and winning are so much more fun than divisive bullying and globalist theft and war with russia. Plus Barron is hilarious. Glorious stuff! Good on you democracy.

Chat on mobile bug?
When I open the in-game messaging window on mobile (Chrome, iOS) my country messages have been "resetting" to a past (earlier) message spontaneously, forcing me to scroll down in the tiny chat window to read the latest message. Anyone else seeing this?

A great civilization is not kept alive by making easy cowardly decisions.

Every other country in the world does what's best for itself. Yet when USA does it now every fool think it's an outrage. Where did everyone get the idea that USA owes them everything? You've been played, and you've got it backwards.

We should do what's good for us!

1. raise tariffs on trade to protect business and raise gov't revenue
2. countries raise tariffs to compensate losses
3. businesses losing profit overseas
4. internal investment lowers
5. only megalithic monopolies survive
6. America has aggregate losses

I do want America to be great, but shouldn't we try to work with countries to create purely free trade instead of causing these stand offs where everyone loses?

Fiedler.. change is NOT bad. But negative change should NOT be overlooked. To feel that you can't criticize your president, as daddy Jefferson once said, is unpatriotic
fiedler (1293 D)

James: but your logic is simply wrong.... purely free trade is a naive concept, and would be disastrous.

I'll admit it's an oversimplification, but higher tariffs unilaterally hurt inter-continental trade. Free trade isn't some pipe dream, FREE TRADE is why we revolted against Britain!!! And yes occasionally a tariff will be reasonable, but these GIANT protectionist spikes from a bunch of populists will only wreck economies.

Trump can fight China through other means, through legal commerce rules, through working with the WTO, but tariffs won't end well.

We're looking at a symptom of a problem. the disease is in our regulatory economy

It'll hurt companies overall, though Fiat Chrysler pretending it's not reacting to Trump at all is kind of adorable.

fiedler you went too far when you attacked my friend brainbomb and i am not joking! there once was something called compassionate conservatism. besides art is part of a civilized society and conservatism must have that in mind as well otherwise we fall into the orbit of stalinism and there is nothing beneficial about that

populism includes art as well. as a matter of fact if you remove all art there is no society. of course the loss a few hollywood liberals wouldn't be missed.

"James: but your logic is simply wrong.... purely free trade is a naive concept, and would be disastrous."

Saying his logic is wrong is like saying 1+1 does not equal 2. The math shows that tariffs always create dead-weight losses.
CAPT Brad (40 DX)
27 Jan 17 UTC
you know we have internal tariffs, sale tax. if we use tariffs as a revenue source i am on board. especially when it is combined with the loss of our technological advantage. a good stiff tariff on cheap chinese solar panels and anything made there by apple is on my list.

Is Trump manipulating foreign currency markets?
Trump makes announcements that affect the Mexican Peso (usually negatively) and yet his financials are a mystery. Is it possible that he is personally trading on the markets that he can influence so much or am I being paranoid?

Last turn of a certain dead player can capture province?
Consider Autumn turn. A player has a single original supply center. His last unit is somewhere else.
His last supply center is captured. He will be dead when Fall begins. However, he is in a position where he can capture one of my many supply centers. Will I lose that supply center in the Fall if he moves to that providence?

In episode 11 of the Diplomacy Games podcast Kaner and I discussed longevity aspects and risk management of sites like webDip and vDip to ensure they grow and reduce the chances of going down (either technically speaking or perceptions of IP infringement). We said we'd create a thread for this for others to contribute. What do you reckon?
