WebDiplomacy policy on restarting a game
I'm sure this type of topic has happened before. One of the players in "Friendly Mediterranean Variation" managed to 'ready' without any units being ordered. All units were held. Major screw up. Hurts the balance of the game. We are still kind of discussing the ramifications and what to do about the moves... but is it possible to either fix the moves for him? or restart the game with everyone playing the same countries?

Worst Mistakes in Diplomacy
I'm curious to know what people consider their worst mistakes in their entire Diplomacy career. Is it failing in a guaranteed solo? Messing up a secure draw? Being eliminated when you shouldn't have?

Diplomacy walk-on music
It's the year 2030. Diplomacy has finally taken its rightful place as one of the "big four" global sports, along with soccer, twenty20 cricket, and ultimate frisbee. The first million dollar tournament opens with hordes of screaming fans straining to glimpse you as you stroll to the game board, your walk-on music reverberating through the arena...

What is that music?

Wanted: Thoughtful Discussion
I'm working on a project where I have to document the process of having a discussion with someone whose views I disagree with. The point of the assignment is to examine my own biases, and find ways to address them. So, since I consider myself liberal in most social and economic policy, I'm looking for an open-minded conservative to debate and discuss politics with. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. Thanks.

Gun control
Webdip has changed so much, back in the day after a mass shooting we'd have a thread within a minute, argue for days and then nothing would get done. Now we just leap straight to doing nothing. I miss the old times.

I've not been doing nothing. A fortnight ago I had a fact finding weekend with a .22 rifle, a variety of shotguns, and a 7.62 hunting rifle.

Pretty keen on doing a lot more fact finding this summer.

"Has nothing to do with guns" 'Nothing' Leon? Not even a tiny bit? We can debate later about motive when more information is established, but to say that shooting people with guns is nothing to do with guns is just not accurate.

I don't think it does have much to do with guns in this case, actually. It very much has the feel of something that, if guns weren't available, would have taken place with other weapons.

The Admiral Duncan in London springs to mind.

Guns don't kill. Retarded people do. Depressed, depraved and mentally retarded people who have no morality kill innocent people. Uneducated fucktards do this. Then there's ISIS They need to be exterminated from this planet.

So when has an AR-15 ever provided someone with a positive experience? Other than the usual "I get a boner for firing automatic weapons types", what exactly has the AR-15 done as far as helping the American public? And yes I do mean specifically outside of use by trained Military soldiers in combat situations...

How many mass shootings have been averted as opposed to CAUSED by the AR 15. Id like to see both the certified psychology backed data showing the deterrant nature seeing an armed guard with an AR 15 does. because as a security officer you wouldnt need to fire that many rounds to take down 1 assailant. This is not the movie Red Dawn, we arent getting overrun with North Korean douchebags. No really how many times has an armed civilian with an AR 15 prevented anything at all?

Letting the general public own automatic military type of rifles; there is no better proof on how stupid the Americans are. A second proof of the same stupidity would be if they elected the maniac Trump as president.

Is it not enough for these conservative types who always talk about how much they love america... does it not phase you that the entire rest of the planet combined cant even match our gun homicide rates?

The planet is literally laughing at us at this point. We cant even put 2 and 2 together and realize that Large clip automatic weapons should not be a civilian grade toy to play with... smfh. rant ##END.

Guns are necessary not for personal protection but rather for protection against government oppression. Guns are absolutely necessary to hold the encroachment of big government at bay, and they appear ever the more necessary with Obama's numerous executive actions. Are more people killed by guns than protected by them? Sure. But protecting individual safety was never the intent of the Second Amendment, and to prevent mass shootings, we must eliminate the shooters at the root. That is, fundamentalist extremists.

leon so right here in front of everyone, you actually beleive that the US government is plotting to target its own citizenry at some point and it is dire that we stockpile guns to protect us from our own government?

The second part of my question is, do you need your abilify medication upped?
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
12 Jun 16 UTC
@Leon: Please provide an example of a situation in which you would personally be willing to kill your elected representatives, or government employees, in order to protect yourself against oppression.

If you believe that President Obama is oppressing you, why haven't you shot him yet?
Putin33 (111 D)

"Guns are absolutely necessary to hold the encroachment of big government at bay"

Oh stop. You're the first person to line up in defense of the police whenever there is a protest of any sort. You're the least anti-government libertarian I've ever encountered.

Also uhh you do realize that Obama is only president for less than a year. if he was waiting to unleash his secret Machiavellian takeover... uhhh wouldn't it have happened already?

Sure, you can kill people without guns... But can you kill 50 people within minutes without guns? No. There will always be crazies, but we can mitigate the damage by far if guns weren't so easily accessible.
Durga (3609 D)

Also, your gun isn't going to protect you against government. Maybe you should try and get rights to owning tanks, fighter jets and drones too.
Putin33 (111 D)

"It very much has the feel of something that, if guns weren't available, would have taken place with other weapons.
"

Allegedly there were other weapons, but they weren't prepared or didn't go off or some such thing. But this was just a transparent rationalization of your own gun hobbying, not really a commentary on the social problem of violence anyway.

What kind of person talks about how fun recreating with guns is the day after the worst massacre in the history of a gun crazed country occurs?
leon1122 (190 D)

"Then you must have had lots of "fundamentalist extremists" around for decades! :)"

Indeed.

"leon so right here in front of everyone, you actually beleive that the US government is plotting to target its own citizenry at some point and it is dire that we stockpile guns to protect us from our own government?"

The government may or may not become totalitarian, and guns are necessary to ensure that it does not.

"The second part of my question is, do you need your abilify medication upped?"

No, but the question is offensive to mentally ill people.

"Please provide an example of a situation in which you would personally be willing to kill your elected representatives, or government employees, in order to protect yourself against oppression."

I don't own guns nor does anyone in my family, but I expect gunowners to take action against the government when and if it openly flaunts the constitution and there is enough public support to take it down.

"Oh stop. You're the first person to line up in defense of the police whenever there is a protest of any sort. You're the least anti-government libertarian I've ever encountered."

Those weren't protests. They were riots.

"Also uhh you do realize that Obama is only president for less than a year. if he was waiting to unleash his secret Machiavellian takeover... uhhh wouldn't it have happened already?"

I never said Obama would do it. It's a slow process of creeping authoritarianism, but Obama has not yet reached the breaking point.
leon1122 (190 D)
12 Jun 16 UTC
"Also, your gun isn't going to protect you against government. Maybe you should try and get rights to owning tanks, fighter jets and drones too."

Guns are sufficient when the government is surrounded by gunowners all across the country.
leon1122 (190 D)

Also, it was my impression that drones are legal.

"Those weren't protests. They were riots."

Hardly, the protests which preceded the occupation of Boston in the late 1760s were riots (you know, the context of the 2nd Amendment). These were protests.

Your tough talking isn't fooling anybody. Who claim you're against government "tyranny" but use the rhetoric of authoritarianism in calling any protest a "riot" in order to suppress it.
Jamiet99uk (1307 D)
12 Jun 16 UTC
@Leon: What would the breaking point be?

At what point would you consider it a gun-owner's constitutional duty to murder President Obama?
