This thread is for signing up to play PROHIBITION WARS, which is the 21st game of Forum Mafia. There are up to 22 slots available however the game can be played with less than this. I would ideally like 20 participants at least.

I feel like this game will force the players to do the least expected thing every turn. Like maybe we'll see Italy go after France in 1901 or Germany drive east. Who knows.

Are we betting on orders this time too?

First turn up, country assignments! I bet that France gets France, Germany gets Germany, England gets England, Russia gets Russia, Austria gets Turkey, and Turkey gets Austria. Oh wait. And Italy gets Tunis.

Yigg: Benny Hill would be better as Neville Chamberlain. Move Shatner over to Churchill and bring in Groucho Marx in as Hitler and I think you have a hit on your hands.

I'm certainly not advising an all out assault from England, Germany, and Italy, but perhaps he'll ready up next time if that happened.
kasimax (243 D)

just for information - the participants are encouraged not to ready up, so we have enough time to discuss their moves.

Just a public reminder that this thread is SOLELY for talking about the gunboat peanuts game; and no other ongoing gunboats are permitted to be discussed here. The players in this game are also not allowed to discuss it here (for obvious reasons!). And all discussion of this game should be kept in this thread.

Looking forward to watching this!

S190M, boom!

FGER: Standard openings
Italy: Ven-Pie whee
Turkey: Common Smy-Arm
Austria: bold Bud-Rum

Fascinating times from the south eastern powers.

I think Austria is gonna come out of this well.
Yigg (2451 D)
15 Apr 16 UTC
Yeah, I really like that bold Austrian move to Rumania. And he's likely to keep it, given that Turkey would probably hit Sevastopol from Armenia. Even if Turkey doesn't, he'll still retreat to Serbia and be no worse for wear. Russia's in a tight spot.
paulyork64 (351 D)
15 Apr 16 UTC
Surprised no move to eng chan. Now will germany let russia into sweden as he is unlikely to get a build otherwise. I think he should.
teacon7 (306 D)
15 Apr 16 UTC
In my amateur-gunboat opinion (IMAGO): the openings were pretty standard except for A Vie-Pie.

News Lede: "Viennese Waltz raises stakes for Yorkshire Pudding"
A Vie-Pie puts pressure on France to cover Mar in the fall, which prevents France from doing crazy things to Germany. Italy gains little from this (other than the impossibility of Fr building F Mar in 01), but Germany gains position from the more passive France in A01, as A Bur is now tied up bouncing a potential A Pie-Mar. Germany has two builds, maybe three depending where England sends A Yor. Prognosis is good for Germany, unless Italy realizes he's not going to take Marseilles and move to Tyrolia to begin the mercenary extortion

News Lede: "Hapsburg and Ottomans form unstoppable, but unstable, alliance."
Austrian Rumania could be terrible for Russia if:
Turkey orders: A Arm s Rum-Sev; F Ank-BLA;
Austria orders: A Rum-Sev
Russia will at best keep Sev (but gain no ground), and at worst lose Sev AND the fleet. This is great for Turkey because Russia gets neutered, and great for Austria because Russia isn't as big a threat anymore. If Russia orders Sev/Ukr to take Rum, it'll just bounce, right?

WebDiplomacy policy on restarting a game
I'm sure this type of topic has happened before. One of the players in "Friendly Mediterranean Variation" managed to 'ready' without any units being ordered. All units were held. Major screw up. Hurts the balance of the game. We are still kind of discussing the ramifications and what to do about the moves... but is it possible to either fix the moves for him? or restart the game with everyone playing the same countries?

Diplomacy walk-on music
It's the year 2030. Diplomacy has finally taken its rightful place as one of the "big four" global sports, along with soccer, twenty20 cricket, and ultimate frisbee. The first million dollar tournament opens with hordes of screaming fans straining to glimpse you as you stroll to the game board, your walk-on music reverberating through the arena...

What is that music?

Wanted: Thoughtful Discussion
I'm working on a project where I have to document the process of having a discussion with someone whose views I disagree with. The point of the assignment is to examine my own biases, and find ways to address them. So, since I consider myself liberal in most social and economic policy, I'm looking for an open-minded conservative to debate and discuss politics with. If you're interested, shoot me a PM. Thanks.
