Great example I/T
gameID=173452

I am not just showing this because I won, I am showing this because here we have an example of a I/T agreed upon in 1901 that worked out well for both parties (up until the eventual and nessecary stab and solo)

Once all the games have started with their final member list I'll post who's on what board.

Always looking for some more alternates, if you're willing, let me know!

Most importantly, have fun!

A note about scoring:

Carnage Scoring is the default scoring for many of the largest North America Diplomacy conventions. It was specifically designed to fix many of the problems inherent in systems such as Sum Of Squares or Draw-based (what webDiplomacy uses for points). Most importantly, and I can't stress this enough, it is WINNER TAKES ALL. webDip points and GR share this feature. If you're playing to win, and/or you win, it's the exact same.

The difference comes during a draw. In Carnage, the players are ranked 1 through 7 by centers and then given points based on their ranking.

Each game is worth 28,034 pts. If you solo, you get them all.
If the game ends in a draw, then the players are ranked by center count, through order of elimination, as necessary. If you top the board, you get 7,000 pts. Second highest center count gets 6,000 pts. Down to 1,000 pts for the lowest center count or the first person eliminated.

In addition, each player gets 1 pts per supply center at the end of the game. These points essentially act as a tiebreaker. So, if you top with 10 centers, that's worth 7,010 pts. Finally, if two players share a rank, they split the points for those two positions. If two guys top the board with 10 centers each, they each score 6,510 pts.

Here are 3 examples of scoring:
[Power: SC, pts]
Russia: 18; 28,034
Turkey: 3; 0
France: 6; 0
Germany: 4; 0
England: 3; 0
Italy: 0(2nd); 0
Austria: 0(1st); 0

[Power: SC, pts]
Russia: 14; 7014
Turkey: 7; 6007
France: 6; 5006
Germany: 4; 4004
England: 3; 3003
Italy: 0(2nd); 2000
Austria: 0(1st); 1000

[Power: SC, pts]
England: 8; 6508
Russia: 8; 6508
France: 7; 5007
Turkey: 6; 4006
Italy: 4; 3004
Austria: 1; 2001
Germany: 0; 1000

To recap: The scoring has a pure WINNER TAKES ALL part. It then rewards you for what rank you are, with the exact amount of SC only mattering for tie breakers. The over-arching idea is that there is little to no reason to just keep bashing on someone who's already down while naturally rewarding being in the lead and being a higher SC count than others. It should not result in any unnatural play, certainly not more than any other scoring system out there. With only three rounds that means a solo automatically beats any combination of non-soloing scores (maximal non-solo score for a single round is obviously 7017 pts, even if you got that all three rounds you would still be far behind a single solo).

Point of clarification:
Best Power awards are based on single-round points, not number of centers.
Board Top with 10 centers as Austria beats 2nd Rank with 11 centers as Austria (7010 D and 6011 D respectively)

So I haven't played on webdip for a while and I'm wondering: does the game start in 9 days or as soon as 7 players joined? Just so I know whether I'm wasting my time refreshing all the time.

Question which may have been mentioned somewhere but if so I forgot:
Say one player is defeated after Fall Retreats while the other one is defeated after Fall Builds the same year. If there's a draw, are they considered to be defeated at the same time so do they split their points or is the guy in Fall Builds considered to be defeated later so he gets 1000 D more than the guy in Fall Retreats?
Valis2501 (2850 D(G))
14 Jan 16 UTC
Center counts are only decided during the Builds phase.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
14 Jan 16 UTC
I thought not, in relation to the famous bug where someone gets 18 centers during moves phase but someone can retreat to one of his centers so he's back to 17, but the game ends the moment he hits 18 nonetheless.

For the purpose of this tournament, that's clear though.

How long are we going to wait for people who clearly don't check webdip often enough to engage in this tournament properly?
steephie22 (182 D(S))
15 Jan 16 UTC
In their defence, I sometimes don't check webdip for a long time because if I'm not in any game. The forum isn't always a place I have to frequent 20 times a day.

If you're talking about a game that has already started, I'll shut up.
steephie22 (182 D(S))
15 Jan 16 UTC
To be fair though, I would not do that if I signed up to a tournament.

I've been at work for 24 hours so haven't been home where I keep my Master Spreadsheet with such things. The deadline I set was a week. They have to check the site every day when playing, not necessarily before and after.

This tournament runs on friendship, patience, and casual competition. Let's wait just a little more please, I'm happy you're chomping at the bit DO and sorry to ask a couple more days of you.

Please help me set up my first FtF game with friends
Hi mods, I'd like to use the site to play a FtF game with a group of friends. Any advice on how I should proceed? Not getting banned as a multi during/after the game is strongly preferred.
Also, if anyone has any experience playing FtF with all players entering orders on their phones/tablets and/or with players who never played Diplomacy before, please let me know how it went and what I should expect. Thanks!

Civil Disorder - How many un-sumitted orders until Civil Disorder
I'm currently playing a 20-hour/phase game in which I've seen two players not submit orders for over 5 seasons as well as the retreats and disbands. Really slows the game if the player has left the game. When does Civil Disorder take over and moves are made automatically?

Hey guys, it's redhouse, it's been a while.
Just so you know: the US have gone completely mad. If you have Donald "bleeding from wherever" Trump heading the major right wing race and Mitch "Constitution? What's a constitution?" McConnell heading the senate, something is wrong.
Very, very, very wrong.
