Best way is to actually scumhunt. Problem was that I was lazy and ghug and Vashta noticed that. Otherwise those belligerent discussions usually happen between townies. Look at how ghug and WD persecuted Squigs for example. You just have to back it up with evidence and case building. Either way, I agree that being mafia all the time sucks. I felt that twice in a row is particularly sucky as there is too much recent meta out there and you have to be particularly careful. I never managed to get into a solid town position like last game because everybody kept saying that they knew I could fake townieness. And the first day was just terrible luck. I couldn't believe the two on the block were y2k and ND . Overall, an awful game from us all

On that note though, I actually was on for just about the whole game and was really just lurking, and I'd be very willing to GM the next game. I think I'd be very good at posting frequent vote count updates, especially towards EOD. I think I would do away with the third-party role and stick to two sides, town vs. mafia, I think that's what others have said they prefer as well?

Is there a plan for the next installment? I hated sitting this one out. Watching is not nearly as fun as playing.

"actual scumhunting" when I'm mafia usually just leads me to doing soft busses. the only person i openly voted for on my own volition instead of going with the group was Chaqa. it takes so much work to "scumhunt" and pick your townie target, and keep up with that train of thought when your target inevitably gets lynched, and at the same time, look like you're not just focusing on your target and have actual opinions on everyone else. it's just so much to account for to fully succeed at looking like an honest townie.

Good game everyone - well done town for eventually pulling it round. MVP is Flum imho, catching Chaqa when you did should've made town life easier. Like the format with WW, we could do that again.

I already have some solid thoughts for the Star Wars setup, will likely roll with that.

Yeah, I gladly accept all nominations for Town MVP, but I have to thank several people for doing things that set up anything I did:

1. Flum obviously for deciding to oracle Chaqa, I would not have gotten that.
2. Tvrocks for holding his shot for long enough to convince the mafia I was vig.
3. Chaqa for believing I was vig. (I did do a few posts and started to realize I could make pretty good WW bait)
4. DemonOverlord for not killing me on the night I claimed everyhting.
5. Ghug for pushing guak initially.

Without any of these happening I probably would have died a lot earlier or not been significant at all. Also I would like to defend my vote on YoYo.

On that day I know that tv and phil both think I am town, but if between WD and y2k i lynch wrong (and especially is WD is mafia), that becomes inconsequential. Phil gets NK'd and even if we correctly lynch (which requires YoYo to vote with me), tv then dies and now we have a final of either me or guak/y2k/WD (probably guak actually) and I figure that YoYo would not be convinced enough to vote with me anyway. So, if I want town to win, YoYo must die and either I or tv or phil has to get the right read on whoever's left. Also, there was still a chance of YoYo being scum, and if he was, it comes down to WD vs y2k, and the town has the game in the bag.

Also, I am completely fine with y2k GMing Mafia 9, but I have an idea for Mafia 10, an All Stars game. I don't know who will GM it, but I feel it should be a game with a few requirements to participate in:
1. You have to have participated in 2/3 mafia games (played or GM/co-GM'd)
2. You must have been on the winning team in at least one of the games. (GMs get a free pass).

Then I think it should be a smaller game, maybe 15 people and have a cool gimmick, like no Power Roles, or Role Madness (with no one being told what roles are in play), and for once, no third parties. As for determining who gets in, I would suggest after 15 people you have some google form or ballot where the 15 people with the most votes get in. What do you guys think?

When a player goes so far in depth as to figure out exactly what the mafia is doing, who they are targeting, and why they are targeting people, they are clearly playing brilliantly, as you were. However, the other half of the game is convincing the town of your thought process. That's the hard part, especially when you have a number of mafia people (I think it was two left when I said that) trying to misdirect you. You had everything right, as others have in the past (I wanna say meme did once), but you were so on target that you looked scummy in my eyes - you knew too much. It read to me like you were there to see night kills and role blocks taking place.

Obviously, you weren't, and obviously, there's no way you could know you were as spot on as you were at that point, so I don't blame you. I was just making the observation that the moment your reads turned out to be right, it would look like a hard bus like guak did last (and this) game.

Role Madness games grew really old after the first 2 or 3 I played

While I wasn't in this game, I liked the Werewolf/Gollum role. If there were more vanilla townies, then the Werewolf would have become more powerful since they would have had better odds to devour victims.

I'm not really a fan of role madness either. It takes away a bit of the main objective by giving everyone something fun to do *instead of* scum-hunting.

A few random passive roles are fine like the Hunter or Millers or mafia Traitors. Keeps things simple, but provides opportunity for flavor.

I think we should add guns to the game, but I'm willing to GM that myself once I'm back from Minnesota if you all think that's more confusion than necessary. Doesn't matter to me.

I considered guns but the problem with them is that you could only fire them if the GM was online - otherwise you'd have all sorts of problems verifying it. Anonymous shots would be even harder.

Miller is fine in cop setups; though I prefer Framer personally. Death millers (the kind that appear to be mafia when you lynch them) are really crap though.

I think Werewolf adds quite a lot - I was pleased with how that worked out. The fact it meant people actually had to alter their style of play by avoiding claiming and stuff made it far more interesting to watch than Arsonist or Serial Killer.

Reverse Mafia could be a fun one to do at some point - with Masons and Cultists.

I think a game with Masons with a no talking at night rule (obviously the masons have their own thread) could be interesting.
