After some four-person Diplomacy in high school and two failed attempts at email Diplomacy, I joined webDiplomacy having never completed a game in my life, though by then I did have a solid understanding of the rules, and I proceeded to win the first ten games I joined on webDiplomacy. It was after I completed seven games, when viewing my profile you’d see “Game stats: Won: 7 (100%)”, that the metagaming began, and with a vengeance. In those days there was no such thing as anonymous games. My 11th game ended in 1903 as Austria at the hands of a pregame IRT alliance against me (comments such as “I didn’t want to see history repeat itself” were the norm), and my 12th a 1904 defeat as Germany. I sometimes wonder if I could have surpassed that ten game win streak, and by how much, if we did have anonymous games back then. Regardless, I had little patience for the metagaming since I joined this site to have fun, so I acted quickly, took over a few CD positions and joined a few gunboats in an attempt to beef up my non-solo stats, hoping to reduce the metagaming to an acceptable level. I suppose it worked, by the time my first year was over I had acquired over 10,000 D, surpassing Rait for first place in that category, and I had also been ranked #1 in GR for three straight months, passing up MarekP in January 2009.
My second year was similar to my first, except for the 10 game win streak. By the time it was over I had over 20,000 D, and in December of 2009 I started a streak of over five full calendar years of being ranked #1 on the Ghost-Rating List (a ranking I’d still hold to this day if not for the most inane misorder you could imagine, especially relative to the pot size and GR implications, though I must thank this humiliation for setting me free, as with most addicts you often must hit rock bottom before you can make real change, even if that real change ultimately took a few more months to take hold).
Other highlights include (but are not limited to, lol):
-Topping the final table at Boston F2F as Austria after weathering a pregame IRT against me.
- An all-time four-digit GR of 1050.4 that is 134% of the second best all-time GR (TheMasterGamer – 781.7).
- An average of 232 D earned per game played (e.g. SplitDiplomat has earned 87 D per game played).
- A stretch of 29 wins/draws in 30 games, a win/draw percentage of 96.7%.
I do like to ramble, but suppose I should stop there. I’m confident many will find all of this quite annoying, especially since I would if I didn’t know me. I don’t say all of this to brag, or sell myself, it’s more of an unexpected “list” of facts that I find difficult to fathom. I’ve never considered myself all that good of a Diplomacy player, just more of a good game player in general, but in the end, I suppose the facts speak for themselves.

If you're even in Boston again, make sure to drop by! And/or try to come out for Abge's Boroughs Tournament. Not to pimp myself out (although who am I to argue with the spirit of a thread?) but I'm going through the forum archives and collecting all the EOGs, and your name stands out as consistently being in, if not getting points out of, some of the most high profile/stakes games of course. I hope all is well with you and your endeavors and maybe in 10 years, after Bo has bought out webDip from kestas and zultar, we'll see you again =)

Yeah, sorry to see you gone MM,too bad you couldn't have finished your last game as the additional earnings were so obvious. Wonder how many other resignes, erased by the mod/admin team, there were to earn those 232 per game.
Good luck!

I think I was Turkey in the "My 11th game ended in 1903 as Austria at the hands of a pregame IRT alliance against me". And yes, it was easy to gang up on MM with 10 games, all wins. And you never gave up, it was an amazing performance.

Hats off to you.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to comment. I am exceedingly proud of my accomplishments on this site, obviously, I would wager anyone else would be as well. I never expected any of it. It's been a crazy ride, full of twists and turns, good times and bad, using press to get out of the most difficult of situations, and sticking my foot in my mouth too many times to recall. I wouldn't trade any of it.

Split, I was not trying to imply I am nearly three times the player that you are, merely trying to put the data into perspective. I named four other players in my write up, four of the best this site has ever seen, though I see my "tip of the cap" to you was not received as it was intended. My apologies.

I must thank abge, Russia at the Boston F2F final table, he was the first to show me mercy in that game, as well as the tournament director, and an excellent time was had by all.

positron, I remember you and that "11th game" we shared like it was yesterday... I had convinced myself I could gain you as an ally, in the end, and I put all I had into that goal. It was not meant to be, but I enjoyed the challenge, however far I fell short.

To this day I feel bad about the way I treated mscott in our Boston Redux game. Same goes for an argument I once made to djbent, as well as an argument I made to Babak in one of our first games together, and a firm stance I once took against Crazyter. Again, I've made more mistakes than I care to remember, but in my seven years on this site I'd like to think I've learned a bit from those mistakes and am grateful for the lessons learned.

I hope all goes well with you over the years MM. What games we shared were fun.
Mad, funny thing how you wouldn't want to finish your game monitoring the site from the outside constantly like you follow your "carmines"...
P.S.I was not trying to imply you implied you were nearly three times the player that I was. I implied you had falsified your game defeat(s).

Let none of us forget that many (many many many) years ago before he turned to shit he really used to be great and we need to focus on that! I know his critics will probably point to that fact he's only soloed one game in the past three years, but i say none of that matters! One in thirty-one games isn't crazy bad if you have built up some laurels you can rest on.

I am very excited for the lifetime achievement trophy that no doubt will be awarded to MadMax (by MadMarx) in the coming days. Kudos!

Thoughts on Modern Diplomacy II?
Hello, I'm returning to WebDipWorld after an absence of several years. I am interested to know what the community thinks of this Modern Dip II variant. Is it enjoyable? Fairly balanced? (I don't expect perfection from a variant . . . )

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

The Religious State
Having seen many opinions on this forum, I am wondering about the acceptability of a religious state. Should a state be able to be primarily Muslim, Jewish, or Christian (etc.)? Is this acceptable in the modern world? If so, how far can this theocracy of sorts go? May they make laws based upon the respective religion? How far reaching should these laws be?

Please discuss, and remain amicable.
