The key lepanto, of course.

Why are people so belligerent toward a key lepanto? I am yet to find a player that is actually open and receptive to it. Speaking from Austria's perspective, do Italian players simply not have the willpower not to stab?

Who's Got the Sexist Accents? Most of Us Here, That's Who (Apparently)
https://www.yahoo.com/travel/which-country-has-the-sexiest-accent-110641864972.html I like that just generic "British" and "American" accents are #1 and #2...because of course Brooklynites, Cajuns, Angelinos and Minnesotans (doncha know!) sound completely the same...as do *insert topical English counterparts. But hey, on the bright side, US and UK Webdippers...we've got the sexiest accents around (not you Canadian players, though...not even in the Top 10, eh?) :p

Chris Kyle Day
Last Monday was Chris Kyle Day in Texas. Obama hasn't said a word about his death last year but orders flags flown at half mast for Whitney Houston who died of Cocaine. I went on whitehouse.gov and looked up Chris Kyle. Here's what I got; http://search.whitehouse.gov/search?affiliate=wh&form_id=usasearch_box&query=Chris+Kyle

Chris Kyle was a liar and a mass murderer. I find all the hero-worship of him more than distasteful, and cannot help but think there is a cancer in the American moral psyche when someone whose only claim to fame is killing scores of people in a war of aggression is the #1 national hero.

"And focus how Obama ignored his death helping a PTSD reserve while Whitney Houston gets a Half Mast Honor."

Whitney Houston provided a valuable service providing entertainment to hundreds of millions of people (although unfortunately I can't really count myself among that number). The world is certainly a far better place because she was in it than it was from someone who killed 160 "savages" (to quote Kyle) whose only crime was defending their hearths and homes from an invading army.

"He got famous for his book claiming how he did it for his other servicemen or women."

Right. I've got books written by German soldiers in the Wehrmacht during WWII who claimed they only fought for their brothers in arms, too. But History doesn't look on these men as heroes for some reason.

"He never bragged about his 150+ confirmed kills."

Umm... his whole book was braggadocio about killing "savages". So were his (lying) claims to having killed carjackers in Texas and Hurricane Katrina looters. Makes me wonder how "confirmed" those 150+ kills in Iraq were.

Let's just examine the *other* half of Zachs's claim for a moment.

Please, Zach, can you provide any evidence that President Obama gave an order for flags to be flown at half-mast in memoriam of Whitney Houston's death?

Snopes.com calls bullshit on this half of your claim:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/military/chriskyle.asp

Because a lot of people on this forum like to hurl abuse without reading the links offered to them, I quote:

"It is not true that President Obama ordered flags throughout the country flown at half-staff to honor Whitney Houston."

Hey Tolstoy, guess what. He was able to do something you obviously would never have the balls to do. It's not like he didn't regret killing those people, but he was doing what he had to to protect his brothers in arms. Imagine yourself as a soldier, about to be blown away by a Jihadist. Suddenly, the terrorist drops dead, saving you. Wouldn't you be happy to be alive? So sit down and shut the fuck up.

So now we get forum topics about racist Facebook chain posts? I need to take this forum moderation things more seriously.

Note the strong racial undertones in that Snopes picture (nice link Jamiet) - the worst possible photo of Whitney Houston fitting the slovenly, drug addled, African American stereotype, while Kyle's picture couldn't be more heroic - muscular, mustached, gun, wedding ring, and massive forearms prominently displayed. This is so racist its disgusting.

While you're busy ranting about this fake news item, Zach, also note that Gov. Chris Christie ordered flags at half mast when the Big Man died a few years ago.

This isn't about racism as much as it is about respect. If Whitney Houston had been white and Chris Kyle black and in this same situation, I would have the exact same viewpoint.

Anyone who takes the Queen's shilling (or whatever the Yank equivalent happens to be) is worthy of respect. Those who fail in their duty should lose it, but those that excel should be worthy of special praise.

I personally disagree with the level of respect given to celebrities, but such is life. No doubt she did her fair share of good deeds before surrendering to drugs.

@ Tolstoy

Celebrity-worshipping is far worse than hero-worshipping.

Regardless of the type of people that CPO Kyle killed, he saved American lives. That fact alone makes him worthy of respect, if not admiration. The ethical/moral debate surrounding the war in which he fought should not be a factor. As for your Wehrmacht straw man, my response would be unchanged. I can give a modicum of respect to any man who fought for his comrades, even if I do not respect their ideology. It's a well-documented fact that I hate communists, but I still respect the men of the Red Army who fought in WWII and Afghanistan.

Whitney Houston was a mediocre pop star who killed herself by drug overdose, because being a celebrity is soooo hard /sarcasm. Of all the reasons to kill oneself, none is more nonsensical than being a celebrity.

I'm not saying that CPO Kyle meets a rigid definition of 'hero', but to suggest that he was of lesser character than Whitney Houston is as laughable as it is irreverent.

Please don't try to understand someone else's deepest personal problems. You can't. It doesn't matter who they are or what they have, everyone has demons that you and I don't know about and will never comprehend. Being a celebrity or simply being rich doesn't eliminate those problems. If someone needs your help, empathize and support them. Don't worry about understanding.

Any Poli Sci geeks around?
Hi, it's been a while. The political science department at my school can be dead sometimes and I've been looking to bounce some ideas around. I don't know why, but I remembered this site and thought there might be a few of you around with some interest for discussion. I know that for the most part, the discussion on this site is news/opinion based, but I don't know what kind of theory backgrounds some of you might have...
