The poop floor
As I was cleaning my litterbox, I discovered I sat in a pile of cat shit. I got it all over my shorts. When I checked if it did happen, I got it all over my hands. I've washed them 3 times and they still smell like cat shit.

Please advise.

french speaking replacement needed
as i will be absent for the next week and the last week of june and i'm only in one active game, i thought that i might as well look for a replacement player. it's a "speak french only" game though, so you'd have to understand at least a little bit of french.

Shootings and break-ins
So, my brother was there at the SPU school shooting today. Quite literally there... Scared the shit out of me when he wouldn't answer his freaking phone. Either way he's a-ok and that's what matters. My home also got broken into last night.... It's time to get a gun. For those that have one, suggestions?

Does anyone else find that the orders you enter pretty regularly don't actually seem to get to the servers properly? I am finding that even when I double check sometime what I get is nearly random

In non winner-take-all game, can you solo with less than ALL the centers?
I want the solo win (and will have a majority of SCs soon). if I accept the draw once i get the majority, doesnt that mean i lose my solo? But do i really need to hold every single center to get the solo? How do you 'resign' ...so my opponents don't have to sit through the process that could take years?

dyager_nh (619 D)

I am happy to TA someone.

I think there is some confusion if we are going by Livetime or May/June ratings.

Ghost Rating for WTA in June is 51.164 Lifetime.

goldfinger0303 (99 GR always a pleasure to have a classic like you take part)
ssorenn (106 GR)
dyager_nh (124 GR)

1 more TA, 2 more students and a co-prof should do it. In the past, we have simply had the students play whatever country their lot fell to, but I'd like to try to get a mod to switch students within the game (maybe goldie) once the game starts so players can play the country they want the most help with.

This means I need each player to select 3 countries (in order of preference) and each TA to select 3 countries to TA (in order of preference). I'd also like each person to post their time-zone so I can try to pair students to TA's based on times they're most frequently online.

If I can assign players with a TA prior to the start of the game, the TA and player can have some time to send messages and keep updates.

@dyager: I just updated to June's rankings.

cardcollector, you're ranked 199
dyager_nh (619 D)

AH, I was confused for a second. You are using the Overall rankings and not the WTA Full Press catagory.

I'm in Mountain time zone. The main one that I would need help with is england, though I could improve in any. The top 3 that I need to improve in would probably be england, germany, or austria. Italy might be my best.

Ogion (3817 D)
02 Jun 14 UTC
Gosh.

1. France
2. Russia
3. Germany

Boy, France seems to have emerged as a real strong suit for me, unlike just about any other country
(99 GR always a pleasure to have a classic like you take part)

Wow, I guess I am that old around here now to be referred to as a classic lol.

As I said, England is my best. I did fairly well with Russia this past go around, but that's just because I had a great student. I'd put Germany as third.
Hamilton Brian (737 D(B))
02 Jun 14 UTC
Thanks, goldfinger, but I attribute a lot of that success to your guidance and devotion to having me justify moves.

Another caveat that I think needs to be out there is that the game take a lot of time, from every participant. Know what you're getting into, and what your committing to. We had folks start, then leave the game, and they played huge roles in the course of the game...but no EoG from them to get a sense of their rationales.

The info gleaned from profs and TAs is very valuable; I still go back to it on occasion as a way of clarifying some of my own issues.

Hamilton Brian (737 D(B))
03 Jun 14 UTC
So much for that "entrant!"
1. England (also my time zone btw GMT +1)
2. France
3. Russia or Austria I don't see why people wouldn't like to play as Austria. I could've sworn it has one of the highest win percentages in the classic game
dyager_nh (619 D)
03 Jun 14 UTC
USA Eastern Time Zone

1. Austria
2. Turkey
3. England

I could also be the worst Russian player to ever play the game.

BTW - bezukhov appears to have been banned

Ogion should TA France. He won the TA study group with it, and his plays caused alot of interesting discussions.

I prefer a smoking hot chick as my student as I intend to email naked pictures back and forth along with game commentary

Ethics of Diplomacy
So in general, I suppose most people here would say you can, and, possibly, should do anything within the rules to increase their chance at winning.

How about, for example, pretending to be terminal, though? Is that still fine?

I've been getting into the game a lot more recently and was wondering if there was any sort of listing of great or best games of Diplomacy. Games with great strategy, alliances, backstabs, drama, that kind of stuff.

In lue of that post your favorite or best games here. I'm up for reading some good stories.

Drinking healthy
I'm quite a balanced eater, so it's not exactly vital, but apart from water, it seems like almost every drink is unhealthy for your body or teeth in some way. Of course, I could just make sure I vary enough, and I do, but I still think it's good to know what's actually healthy rather than "not that bad".

I absolutely don't have to worry about too much calories, btw. I'm talking about the other stuff.
