It made me pretty uncomfortable sitting on the bench near it. It was a red cardinal
I wonder why it died, and if marxism had something to do with it. I decided to sit inside instead and listen to some modest mouse.

I blame Abraham Lincoln
He screwed over the south's economy without granting them an alternative, devastated their homeland and subjugated them to the union. There's no coincidence that these people's descendants elected Trump today. They have been disenfranchised and alienated and economically subjugate since before 1860. We are paying for the sins of our fathers.

The union should've bought the slaves' freedom the same way Britain did.

i didn't in my Austria game last night: but a new fun method for Austria is using Budapest to support Vienna into Galicia. not "new" but i'm liking it more and more in gunboat.

also can i make a controversial statement:

no matter which nominee is elected, we will survive the next 4 years.

b/c Obama's come out and said "the threat of the US Republic is at stake"

fear mongering is reaching a whole new level in the US: on both sides

There is nothing in the Constitution that says the Republicans have to approve a left-wing judicial activist to the Supreme Court that will legislate from the bench and rewrite our constitution. Absolutely nothing.
JamesYanik (548 D)
03 Nov 16 UTC
@ND

i guess we could have a smaller supreme court, but something I don't like: is when Hillary said the Supreme court to "stand on the side of the people"

but... the judicial branch is not supposed to be representative of the people.

it's supposed to be responsible to the constitution: that's it. the people can Raise issues, there can be review and precedents set: but it's not supposed to sway back and forth with public opinion. it can and will change things over time, but there have been cases were the Supreme court made UN-popular decisions.

i personally like some checks and balances. oh well. winner rules: the seat is for the taking

@BB "This is a glimpse into a Trump america. Random, directionless conversations about nothing, people punching bears and DMZ galicias."

Isn't this EXACTLY a description of YOU?!? WTF....
Here's how you can tell the Republicans are wrong in obstructing Supreme Court nominees.

Garland was nominated to appease the Republicans. He is super moderate, ackowledged even by the Republicans himself.

Garland is extremely well qualified for the job and a hard worker.

Right before the nomination, Republicans were saying that they'd support Garland if Garland was nominated.

Obama nominated him and they refused to even give Garland an up or down vote. They said that the next President should decide. This is disrespecting the Constitution, which says that it is the President's duty to nominate Supreme Court Justices, with the advice and consent of the Senate. Americans voted Obama in. Obama has a mandate to nominate justices. The Republicans have a duty to give Garland an up/down vote. But they won't even consider Garland!

As a Clinton presidency looks increasingly inevitable, Republicans are now saying they will block Garland and any Hillary nominee. Any! Even though they said the next President should decide.

A supreme example of Republican obstructionism and hypocrisy that has the potential to make the Supreme Court ineffective in allowing 4-4 decisions (which has happened twice now).

(Note: One of Trump's Supreme Court picks thinks that the US went wrong in allowing women to vote. Trump supporters are also denouncing women's right to vote with the hashtage #RepealThe19th)

Yeah they did decide to consider Garland. They decided he and Obama weren't the time to even go to committee hearings or do an up/down vote.

Wtf? You're saying that Garland was blocked because Obama didn't have the time to go to his hearing? Bullshit.
JamesYanik (548 D)
03 Nov 16 UTC
"this is disrespecting the constitution"

no... it's their right to put it off just as it is Obama's right to choose who he wants to nominate. Plus, they didn't want to IMMEDIATELY say no to Garland, they'd rather replace Scalia with another like-for-life Scalia type.

Garland is more left than they want: I like the guy, but it's not "disrespectful"

it's rights. the left supported Kapernick's rights: but congress' rights are bad.

it's cherry picking, and it's hypocrisy.

right now we have 4 liberals, 3 conservatives, 1 conservative who's not voted with them all the time:

Before Garland was nominated:
"(Obama) could easily name Merrick Garland, who is a fine man," -Hatch, Utah Republican
Garland had a "distinguished legal career" - Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, Republican.
"An intelligent, experienced and even-handed individual," according to former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating a Republican who found Garland's work on the Oklahoma City bombing case particularly notable and inspiring.
"Last April, in Oklahoma City, Merrick was at the helm of the Justice Department's investigation following the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building, the bloodiest and most tragic act of terrorism on American soil," Keating wrote to then-Republican presidential nominee Bob Dole in 1996, according to the Congressional Record. "During the investigation, Merrick distinguished himself in a situation where he had to lead a highly complicated investigation and make quick decisions during critical times. Merrick Garland is an intelligent, experienced and evenhanded individual."
(Obama) could easily name Merrick Garland, who is a fine man," Hatch said in Newsmax, adding later, "He probably won't do that because this appointment is about the election."

After Garland was nominated:
"His nomination doesn't in any way change current circumstances," he said. "I remain convinced that the best way for the Senate to do its job is to conduct the confirmation process after this toxic presidential election season is over."

After a Trump loss seems inevitable:
“I promise you that we will be united against any Supreme Court nominee that Hillary Clinton, if she were president, would put up,” - John McCain, implying that Garland will be blocked.
The Clintons are involved in a massive money laundering, child sex trafficking, governmental favor-selling, crony capitalist crime syndicate. Their cronies in the Department of Justice are blocking the FBI's agents from bringing them down and if Clinton is elected, they'll get away with it forever. Fuck them. #DrainTheSwamp

Obama was pretty generous with Garland. Hillary won't be. if the GOP loses the senate, we're gonna get freaking female identifying marx on weed nominated
"The President . . . shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law. . ."

The Senate Republicans are providing neither advice nor consent. They refuse to even give Garland a fair hearing.

The Democrats are fully justified in using the nuclear option and ramming Garland through.

um... they're holding off. it doesn't say they HAVE TO DO IT WITHIN THIS MANY NUMBER OF DAYS OR ELSE!!!
