And as for muting people, Brad, I have a firm belief in Freedom of Speech and to listen even to people that you fundamentally disagree with. I'm not about to stop other people muting as they choose, but I personally don't feel comfortable muting anybody.

No that's what the Spanish conquistadors did when they landed in Mexico. So there was not chance to change their minds and turn back. Burn the boats! Burn the boats! Burn the boats! Burn the boats!

Actually brain, we would rescue people who were stranded. Sinking innocents is not what the United States Navy does.

And one iranian jetliner notwithstanding, we tend to leave innocent aircraft alone too.

"Nothing i've said is factually inaccurate or woman-hating, and I was not aware of another "MRA filled thread.""

Yeah you did. Women are not better paid, and you made an inference about the correlation of happiness that has incredibly sexist implications and is likely also just false stat on its own. I want to see a credible cite for that. And the mansplaining thread is where you belong, shoo. No one cares that you don't like women gaining back their autonomy. This is for celebrating inspirational women, if you can't do that leave. You're another one who should have been silenced long ago for those racist comments you made.

There have been numerous studies showing that women under thirty in the developed west earn far more than their male counterparts. As that is the demographic I occupy, it is absolutely true in my experience that women are better paid than men.

Likewise, there have been psychiatric studies that have observed a downward trend in general female happiness as child-rearing, motherhood and community have taken a backseat to cat-rearing, professional life and societal atomisation.

I have no objections to women having their autonomy, but it is my belief that men and women are complementary beings and both function best and are happiest when they are at peace with one another.

My personal inspirations include Jeanne d'Arc, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Elizabeth I and Matilde di Canossa.

Yeah you're a straight sexist. Solid. Not engaging. Get lost. Don't make me mute this thread.
CroakandDagger (718 D)
22 Nov 17 UTC
It is not sexist to say that men and women being at each other's throats is unhealthy not only for them as individuals but for society as a whole.
Durga (3609 D)
22 Nov 17 UTC
a) men and women aren't at each other's throats lol??? what kind of weird reality are you living.
b) it is incredibly sexist to say or imply people should conform to gender roles for the greater good of society
CroakandDagger (718 D)
22 Nov 17 UTC
(+2)
Agitators like yourself accuse people who stand up for men's rights as "woman-haters". This necessarily contributes to an antagonistic atmosphere between the sexes.

I don't care whether people conform to gender roles or not.

I believe that people are happier and healthier when they do.
Durga (3609 D)
22 Nov 17 UTC
Absolutely not. People I fight with don't stand up for men's rights as equality. They stand up for men's rights to the detriment of equality and other people's rights. That is absolutely not acceptable, and that is the problem with MRA. The feminist movement fights for the equality of all genders and people.

You're wrong, you have no perspective on this, and you should probably stop spreading your wrong thoughts on it.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
22 Nov 17 UTC
Yes, Croak, ignorance is bliss. We all know that. Since when does that make it rightfor one to stop fighting for the place in society that they want?
CroakandDagger (718 D)
22 Nov 17 UTC
(+2)
I'm sorry that my wrongthink upsets you, but merely asserting that I have no perspective without providing evidence of this supposed "activism to the detriment of equality" only showcases your own amateurish understanding of the complex issue of gender relations.

Men face an epidemic of suicide and homelessness, and it's frankly ludicrous to suggest that reducing male homelessness and suicide would be a "detriment" to female rights, freedoms and equality.
Durga (3609 D)
22 Nov 17 UTC
No, I'm all about lowering rates of suicide and homelessness for men and women, with special attention to groups that suffer from these more whether this is men in general, men with mental disabilities, men of colour, etc. Why would you ever assume I wasn't. This is an issue if you say things like "this is more important than women's problems" which most MRA do. And then the flat out lies about wages and work and happiness correlation.

I am responding to you, DO. I thought in a thoughtful, patient and polite manner.

TrPrado, I have read and understood the studies I mention, but I am not in the habit of compulsively noting down the sources of everything I read. To do so would be prohibitive in an age when vast reams of scholarly research are literally a click away. However, you have at your fingertips the most powerful information technology ever known to man, so if you want to look them out yourself you can do so.

In fact I encourage it. Perhaps we can have an intelligent discussion about it when you're up to speed.

Lifting up inspiring women does not mean putting down all men, and the most notable issue I have personally witnessed feminist campaigning about is abortion. If you would like to tell me about the other issues they campaign about please do enlighten me.
Durga (3609 D)
22 Nov 17 UTC
(+1)
Abortion? That isn't even an issue in Canada you should maybe take your geographical outlook into consideration as it might help you think beyond your little bubble sometimes. There are all kind of things that feminism looks at that impacts both women and men, such as domestic abuse, wage gaps, sexual harassment, representation, revenge porn, objectification, etc etc etc.
CroakandDagger (718 D)

kind of sad how some people when they are losing an argument just want to mute threads and people. Just goes to show that they don't believe in freedom of speech, which of course we already knew, but still. Some of these people are just sad. I hope they can get some help, you know?

@ND

I understand what you're saying but muting people isn't a freedom of speech thing. It's just blocking, doesn't do anything to the other person but prevent them from seeing your stuff and vis-versa. They can still talk just fine.

Mansplaining and manscaping
I heard people use the term mansplaining recently. It was negatively stigmatized but what does it even mean? Also I head people saying something about manscaping and I wondered if that was a type of yard work. Any input is appreciated.

What provisions are there in general for dealing with players who NMR on the first turn? Should we simply agree on a draw and try and rebuild the game with new players? Is there a way to bring in replacements?

New York is the best.
Now that I've gotten everybody's attention, would anybody be interested in playing a game of American Empire where everybody plays as the region that they are from? I think that might be kinda fun and could be a way to release some of this clearly geographical tension that is brewing in the forums.
I'd have to claim NY
