I have just been called a racist and a homophobe, and then Ogion said i was one of the extremists in charlottesville.
i'm just going to make a few points then leave, because clearly talking to Ogion is getting nothing done.
1. police brutality IS a problem. i've addressed this is earlier threads, but as always i've addressed it one way: show me a racist, and i'll stand with you against him. the key here is to be specific and not generalize. as for the idea that police are going around shooting black people at random:
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-myths-of-black-lives-matter-1455235686
this article fairly well some up most of the problems i see when simply pointing to these statistics. it's almost like the old creationist idea of the watch on a beach.
"if you walk along a beach and find a watch, your first thought is that someone designed it, not that evolution slowly over time created the watch from the elements. thus humans are also a product intelligent design"
this logically devoid statement is not dissimilar to what is happening now with statistics on crime. people see a disparity in the crime arrest rate between a population of blacks, hispanics and whites, and the immediate assumption is there an overlying design of racist intent. even though cops are more likely to be shot by a black man than a black man be shot by a cop. even though more black cops shoot black men proportional to their population size than white cops. this is even when crime reports (not just arrests, REPORTS) many of which are by citizens who live in the same geographical area and same demographic of the criminal, report in tandem with arrest rates.
but even with this having been said, racism still exists, and for the first time in a while it is growing in America. the best way to address it is not on a generalized level. not a visceral violent level. we need to address specific instances of racism, and use the full force of the law to put these people in jail.
2. i am not homophobic. Ogion has said that I am... and not provided any proof. it's this type of claim that is utterly ludicrous, and now that burden is on ME to prove i'm not a homophobe.
and on two more quite telling quotes:
"As for James, you absolutely made my point about him. I could only be a hypocrite if these were remotely of similar magnitude. And there mere fact that James think that marching in support of the notion that white people are inherently superior, attacking counter protestors ( note in the photos who came with shield helmets and truncheons and who came with signs and backpacks to understand how "both sides" engaged in violence)"
i do not support the actions of either side, but you're not being honest here. there were antifa elements present that were attacking the white supremacists. is further violence the correct answer? NO! but you're not JUST attack white supremacists here, you're condoning bad behavior on the left.
and you don't need to be a hypocrite even if they aren't the same magnitude. to be hypocrite you only need to hold a double standard, and yours is that you only address bad behavior when it seems to be doe by a side you deem to have more institutional power. the rest of us are saying all bad behavior is bad. plain, cut and dry.
"is somehow equivalent to big protests against the murder of black people by cops or the pillaging of America by Wall Street. He is equating a march with running people down with a car. Does that seem remotely appropriate or accurate to you?"
the riots in ferguson: 25 (black) businesses destroyed, 12 civilian vehicles burned, 80 arrests made, 13 serious injuries.
was this a "march?"
baltimore riots: 113 police officers injured, NO BLACK FATALITIES BY POLICE (can you say "counter narrative??") 486 arrests, 150 vehicle fires, 60 businesses set on fire, 27 drug stores LOOTED.
was THIS a "march?"
neither side is good. killing, ending a life, is far worse than the violence we see in riots, but you've shown your hand again Ogion. using the word "march." pathetic.
"And yeah, when the president speaks when a bunch of black guys have been gunned down by cops and a bunch of cops have been gunned down by a black guy, then you've got some "both sides" going on and it is appropriate to talk about both. But apparently talking about the black guys is "politicizing the issue" but the cops are martyrs who aren't mourned enough they certainly are the victims of terrorism)."
what? this was never a claim of mine. straw man.
secondly, the BLM side is not innocent of politicizing things here.
"And of course, don't forget he just finished calling the people who were protesting against the murder of black people "terrorists" and equivalent to white supremacists both by drawing a direct comparison"
when you're in a building with a high powered rifle shooting cops, then yes you are a terrorist.
when you react to police brutality by breaking into other black people's stores and looting them, and burning down civilian cars, you are a terrorist.
"and by defending Trump's statement"
to anybody reading this, go back to page 1. look at my first post. Ogion you need to stop lying.
