I'm definitely not from the FtF world. It just seems like smallest of things to do that a) stops people from pausing so that they can plan more and b) doesn't punish people who have to do things in RL in lieu of playing a game online.

At any rate, I'll call people out who do it in games with me. Fuck those people.

Not sure if I undestand the controversy, but are games getting set to no press for a pause? That's a bit weird. I guess a compromise could involve a 'rulebook press'-style read only mode during a pause.

Is there a policy for how long a player has to enter orders once they force Yoyo into the burden of having to pause a game due to a potential NMR? Do they get 24 hours? One phase length? Two months?

The rules regarding NMRs are clearly on the World Cup rules page. The link to said rules has been posted several times.

However, asking specific questions regarding specific teams that aren't your own, or attempting to siphon information from the GM that's against the spirit of the game will get you disqualified.

^That's a warning to everyone by the way. I'm tired of people attempting to be clever when it comes to siphoning information from me. If you wish to bring something game related to my attention, that is fine and in fact, is much appreciated. Do not ask me loaded questions.

Handling of NMR's and Pauses are starting to become areas for concern in some of the games so it really is probably a good idea to give some comment on these publically either for clarification, reassurance, or to rectify possible holes.

I know for me some of the confusion comes from the situations where games are "Paused until ___" and when the pause carries past that date there's no update. I think i finally understand the general idea is that if it's allowed to extend up to a week, but if that's the case perhaps just bake that into the announcement along the lines of "expected pause until Wed with allowances up to Mon" type stuff. Some participants are only in this one game so it's helpful to know if it's safe to walk away for a few days without having to worry about missing something crucial. Ambiguous ends of pauses are rough.

Seperate question that's not really specified on the rules page. Do we limit the amount of "Emergency" NMR's a person gets to use and how we qualify something as an emergency as opposed to a strategic delay? It's seeming prone to abuse at the moment so would be good to either have reassurances that's not the case or fair common understanding as to what's acceptable so it can be used as a common strategic tool if people so want.

And lastly i saw mention of an announcement that was supposed to be made last night regarding the whole gunboating during pauses and how to handle coming in/out of it. That still coming?

I don't see a single link to the rules page within this thread, though I do see it stated that if we have questions we should ask Yoyo. I have asked Yoyo questions (perhaps too many), and was recently told my question(s) were intentionally ignored, so I asked on this forum (to save Yoyo some time, in case someone else knew) in the hopes that someone could provide some info... I'm a bit confused, clearly...

Anyway, I went to the World Cup page and don't see much specific to NMR, especially not compared to the first page of this thread where it states:

"Should a player appear about to NMR, there will be a force pause. If the pause lasts for longer than one phase length, the player will be ruled to have CD'd and be removed from the game. If a game is force paused for an NMR, there will be no rolebacks of phase length."

I think this info would be helpful on the World Cup page and I still have questions unanswered, but I suppose that is my lot in life, which I am currently willing to accept.

So there have been a lot of questions regarding pauses. I've decided that it's best dealt with this way:

If a person appears to be about to NMR, I will pause the game as soon to the deadline as I am available to cut it. This may be anytime past 1 hour before the deadline. I will allow discussion for the normal phase length time before gunboating the game. This means that all games from now on will have exactly 36 hours of discussion, no matter the pause. After everyone has enters orders, I will run the clock to 0 immediately and return press to the appropriate kind.

If for any reason you wish to enter moves past an hour before the deadline, you must PM me several hours (I've rested on 6) before the deadline so that I know not to pause the game.

If I pause the game, you will have a phase length to enter orders before you will be forced to be replaced, as per already stated rules. You'll be forgiven once before being forced to be replaced if you force the game into pause.

That being said, both games that are paused right now are in the middle of a replacement. Please bear with me while this is happening. Thanks. Sorry for the delayed announcement, I've been exclusively on my phone for the most of the past 2 days.
