This is probably irrelevant to most of you, but my second daughter just came into the world. Where do I go to share this news? Webdip.
In any event, she's healthy and I am one happy papa.

I fully agree with THM above. Lynching is what urges the Mafia to come out of hiding either defensively (it wasn't me!) or offensively (yessssss kill him!). Without lynching, we support the Mafia to just hang around, lurk a bit and wait while the townsfolk incriminate each other.
Fasces349 (0 DX)
03 Apr 14 UTC
Abge has made a compelling case. I am no longer in favour of no lynching and now suggest that we lynch Vashta.
Why would you want to lynch me, Fasces. I have been nothing but loyal to the town's best interest. In fact I was almost the first to cpme up with a profile fot the mafia, so why me?

After completely reading the first 4 pages and then running out of time, I continued reading only the posts of players that did not post until page 4 ...

here my 2 cents:

Thucy: "I seriously think we should not lynch anyone this round - it's pure speculation."
This entire game is pure speculation, no matter if we start lynching now or tomorrow after there will be at least one innocent person gone

Yebellz: "if we get lucky (5/18 chance) we put ourselves in a better situation, but the more likely scenario (13/18 chance) we are only worse off"
And if we do nothing today, our chances to lynch the right person tomorrow is probably 5/16. Waiting will not improve my chances to be on the winning side in this game - I say MY chances because I am not sure if you and I are on the same side -> vanilla town ... in fact to me everyone prefering not to lynch today is a suspect since waiting improves the mafias position

Chaqa: "What we need to do is not kill anyone. Let the mafia make a move. Maybe they kill someone. Maybe they don't."
Why should they not kill someone? Every kill they do improves their chances

Hanged man: "I favor targeting someone who has not spoken much, but who has at least satisfied the one post (with vote) minimum to avoid being booted"
Exactely what I think - target one of those, or target one who tries to improve the mafias position by not lynching today.

WardenDresden: "Problem with lynching someone day one is that technically right now even the mafia are innocent."
Did you not read the opening story? We have proof there are weapons of mass destruction in Ir ... eeh, that there are 4 multis in webDiplistan! Multis are by definition not innocent
"The thing is, the ONLY power we normal citizens have is the power to lynch someone, and I damn well want to exercise my rights before the mafia kills me."
I totally agree on that point

My vote will follow later today
Sorry for the typos, I'm using my phone right noe to defend my honor.

"Well, Thucy, currently i am working on an algorithm on who to eliminate"
You don't lynch based on math. You've also been giving a lot of filler and you're reaction to my fos (epic mafia term), makes me believe you are mafia.

Sevyas, we might have more information tomorrow. In fact, we may have more information today, if people start making claims. It's a logical lapse to assume that tomorrow will also be a complete shot in the dark. I haven't made my vote yet since I'm still waiting to see how this round turns out with the chat.
TheJok3r (765 D)

I agree with Sevyas in just about every way. I would be in favor of lynching someone who has not been productive really.

Wow - you go down to the Congo for a small bite to eat - come back and there's bloody mafia running the town and a serial killer on the fucking loose (is he technically a serial killer when he hasn't killed anyone or was he off doing it somewhere else)

Either way - managed to wade my way through the arguments, counter arguments and I DEMAND JUSTICE - someone must be lynched - although as yet I want more info before deciding who. Too many people who haven't commented or got into the conversation yet.

its the Congo, which is in Africa. We all know Africa is nothing but a cesspool of Aids and Civil War.

Frankly if I was a serial killer I'd stay in the Congo - far better eating down there. Alex - you would never eat a reporter! Think of all the ink they've consumed and soaked through their very skin.

Anyone want to list out the players that haven't spoken yet? I can do it when I'm off mobile if no one has done it yet.
"@PE Is it possible to change a vote after doing the ##VOTE, or is using the tag a binding action when accusing someone? Naturally one would risk being unable to change the vote if the hammer cut a day short, but is vote-changing going to be a part, or are ##VOTEs going to be considered final?"

Both ##VOTE and ##END tags are not final; you can change either as many times as you want until the day ends. (Of course, since ##END tags might cause the day to end, you want to be careful with throwing those around....)

If I missed your query please ask again or PM me. Vote count update in next post.
Vote Count Update the Second

Gentlemen (and I use that term in the most ridiculous way) - Discussion seems to be progressing, with even a mind changed – may I recommend we update this straw vote on intention – and feel free to fill in any leanings you have (yes, even if you are fitting the noose about my neck…) Copy/Paste/Update…you know the drill.

Thanks Townies!

Also - since the Doc and the Cop are valuable assetts - anyone have any suggestion at all as to how to mitigate killing them accidently?

abgemacht (1076 D(G))
03 Apr 14 UTC
The chance of killing the Doc/Cop is 1/9. Those are the best odds we'll ever have (I think) of not killing them. I'm not sure we can do better than that.
TheJok3r (765 D)

@Krellin: If I have to confirm for you one more time that I am pro lynch, you're gonna be my vote.

Also, there really isn't a suggestion to help not killing them. For the most part, today's lynch(if it happens) will be random. Trying to get more information to not hit the cop/doctor/vigilante just isn't a feasible plan.
krellin (80 DX)
03 Apr 14 UTC
Jok3r, do you understand how a straw poll works? the idea here is that things are fluid right now, and we are asking people to update the list to reflect their current state of mind. Others HAVE changed their mind - I assume you are a free man, and can update the list if needed. Others are not on the list, and I'm simply asking them to put their name down and current state of mind.

Why are you afraid of a little organization?
krellin (80 DX)
03 Apr 14 UTC
Jok3r - The "?" is to indicate you have expressed no preference as to WHO we lynch.
TheJok3r (765 D)

Whoa Krellin. Let's not blow this out of proportion. I simply misread your list and interpreted it as you not sure of which way I was leaning in regards to this great debate. There's definitely no reason to jump to the conclusion that I am against organization of thoughts.

It's Maple's Alter Ego! (But Seriously--Should Serling Be Forced to Sell the Team?)
http://nba.si.com/2014/04/29/donald-sterling-adam-silver-nba-owners-reaction/ To be clear--this is HYPOTHETICAL. There's nothing in the NBA Constitution that gives the commissioner the right to do this, so this is more just a thought experiment--say that power existed, and Adam Silver COULD force Serling to sell the team based on his repeated racist comments over the years, with this last doozy being the kicker. If the power existed, SHOULD the man lose his team over this?

Gunboat game for the reliable but poor
I'm tired of the NMRs and CDs that are far too common i the low-bet games I can afford to play. I'd love to play in the big-pot games with the best players, but I don't have the $ (and, hey, I'm not that good anyway). If there are other middle of the road players who feel the same way, perhaps we can organize a password-protected game (or two if there's enough interest) of reliable gunboaters. More below.

Phase length for FTF games?
I've been thinking about putting together a face to face game for some new players (friends who don't play diplomacy.... yet). But, I've never played FTF myself - so:

What kind of phase lengths do people use? I assume that there's also a time or turn cap too (eg game ends in 1910)?

Underage Drinking
Two IU players busted for underage drinking, one I know well. I guess the shocking part of their arrests is that the police in B-town are such assholes that they go around hunting for underage drinkers on Little 500 Day.

Please tell me no one on webDip suffered until 21 before their first drink.

Woody Allen, child molestor[?], given a lifetime achievement award.
So, one of my courses this semester is about "contemporary issues" and one of the issues I'm supposed to debate during our final is whether Woody Allen deserved the lifetime achievement award given to him by the Golden Globes. I've been assigned to argue on the side that he should not have gotten the award. And I want to hear what the people of WebDip think. Source links in the thread.
