I can't even begin to understand this theory.
Global warming has spawned an entire industry of green collar, and high tech jobs. Thats not murdering capitalism, the providing a whole new unexploited/under-exploited market to focus on. Environmentalism isn't destructive to capitalism, its disruptive, some business will sink other businesses will swim. The good businesses that are competitive and flexible will swim the rising tide of environmentalism to high profits.

I can't imagine a less credible conspiracy than global socialists inventing global warming to cripple capitalism.

Damian, it's absolutely crippling. It wants to cap emissions on factories and plants that means you can't produce as much. It wants to take wealth from the US and transfer it to the third world which means a weaker US industrial base and a stronger industrial base elsewhere. It's ridiculous, thank god that Trump pulled us out of the Paris Climate Accord.

Lovable ND...I could cite our beautiful ND as a classic example of the power of the "Cult of Trump". ND is a fervent acolyte of the Trumpian Cult, imho. And perhaps an example of why Trump might be regarded as the most successful Criminal Demagogue produced in the USA.. So far. No epic tortuous convolution of reason or fact ( real or alternative ) appears to be beyond ND's capabilities in his defense of Trump. Its creating entire new industries based around carbon capture and storage to see those requirements. Its triggering massive technical innovation, electric cars, massive battery systems. There will be losers within the USA, but on the net America has the technical skills and the ability to innovate to come out of climate change a winner by being the one to produce top notch green technology. Trying to cling to failing companies just because they've been around for a long time is bullshit crony capitalism and distorts the free market.

You hardly have to worry about a weakening US industrial based countries like Germany with more stringent environmental policies are starting to see factories re-open as automated factories become more economical than over sea factories. The fact is the costs of meeting the environmental regulations will become less significant as automation improves and the environmental impact of overseas shipping becomes factored into prices.

I agree with you Damian..technological innovation driven by the need to be more energy efficient, less polluting is powering economic growth, creating new jobs, new businesses. What I think adorable ND fails to understand, and which you seem to find self evident ( like countless others ) is that essential point, and it's antithesis. That clinging to that anachronistic "false orthodoxy" of the old industrial model will only exacerbate economic decline.
Take the example of burning coal to generate electricity.. Irrespective of the environmental costs, it's rapidly becoming a less economically competitive method of producing electrical power. Technology can improve the efficiency of coal fired power stations, but that only slows their inevitable decline in competitiveness against the emerging technologies.
Similarly we can produce more efficient petrol engines, but does anyone seriously think that petrol powered motor vee~hickles will survive indefinitely for mass use and not be replaced by electrically powered vee~hickles ?..apart from chaps like adorable ND?

@damian.. Yes.I had only read your first post on "green" technologies when I was writing my reply to you. Again your follow up post is, imho, correct. Protectionism for old failing industries and businesses will only entrench economic decline.
I also think environmental standards will form new tariff barriers in the future, so for example if you want to have access to markets then your production methods will have to meet environmental standards or face punitive tariffs.. In a similar way to Safety standards, in Australia we don't allow products in certain categories that fail to meet Safety standards to be imported into our country

And look, when it comes to corporate tax, i live in a country which has a 12.5% corporate tax rate. I have seen the advantages of having google, facebook, and microsoft locate their European HQs in the city where i live. And it is no surprise that the Irish government has been reluctant to collect the ~€13 billion in taxes which the EU says Apple owes us.

But i am on the record stating that the Irish public should reject this corporatism and rule by and for multinationals. So i'm not overly shocked that corporations have taken control of the US political system.
