Inspirational Females
Here is a thread to post inspirational stories about women who have positively impacted your life.

Lol no. This site has been hard enough on women lately. Lets get back to honoring them!

Ok. So last summer my mother, at age 60, backpacked 55 miles with me. All while being diabetic which poses significant challenges backpacking as its hard to control sugar levels. Oh, and she broke her toe halfway through and kept going like the badass she is.

@_Tom Bombarding..the only reason I could see for limiting a thread about uninspirational individuals who cruh souls etc to women is that if we included men then the thread might well take up way too much "memory space" and crash the WebDiplomacy site.
One more comment from me about the writing of Ayn Rand.. It's just a personal opinion, but too often when reading her stuff, I felt like I was reading a "grim polemic".. She, imho, had little talent for using comedy to make a point. Like Mark Twain could do brilliantly.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned her, but Jane Austen does deserve a mention as a great writer. Not as a great "woman writer", but imho, as a great writer. And I would hope that is how we are regarding the women writers..not as good / great etc in a separate class of " women writers", but as good/ great writers in the "class of all writers, men and women"

@Brain:

You laid traps in your mansplaining thread, the answers to which you drag bound to the people in this thread, some of whom offered nothing but women authors, before you, among others, attacked those opinions based on... on what?

On political ideology? Because of resentment? You think I'm a psychotic sexist because I dislike feminism. Fine, but that's your problem, your characterisation of me, not mine. If I put up a woman whom I admire, that should be the end of the story. But no, you lover and honourer of women attack... I followed the rules of the thread.

You can't separate people from ideas. That is not my problem. I'm not a libertarian, I don't ascribe to Rand's views. Some of them I like, or find interesting. Same with Heinlein, Asimov, and Dick. A person can like another person's work and not agree with them on every or any point.

As a twenty year old I assumed my betters would have understood that.

Could anyone have predicted? A thread about inspirational women that degrades into a bunch of men taking about the right way to treat women and which women are actually inspirational based on their own political biases. I don't think it gets much farther from feminism than that.

Gee, CA, why do I get the sense that you don't really know much about what feminism is?

Let me be the first too state that my knowledge & understanding of feminism is far from perfect. It's rudimentary rather than perfect.

Women have the full capacity to determine their own place in society without regard to anyone else's expectations or attitudes.

That's why they're better paid, commit less suicide and occupy more places in higher education than men these days.

And also, possibly, why studies show there's been a downward trend in female happiness for the last few decades.

I am so happy that i muted that one. I have no idea what that one blathered. I would suggest croak that you mute that one too as all that comes from that one is spite, insincerity, recrimination, and wandering raving lunacy. Yes mute the D. And O so nicely the static just disappears.

Mansplaining and manscaping
I heard people use the term mansplaining recently. It was negatively stigmatized but what does it even mean? Also I head people saying something about manscaping and I wondered if that was a type of yard work. Any input is appreciated.

What provisions are there in general for dealing with players who NMR on the first turn? Should we simply agree on a draw and try and rebuild the game with new players? Is there a way to bring in replacements?

New York is the best.
Now that I've gotten everybody's attention, would anybody be interested in playing a game of American Empire where everybody plays as the region that they are from? I think that might be kinda fun and could be a way to release some of this clearly geographical tension that is brewing in the forums.
I'd have to claim NY
