The Art of Correspondence ... out in hardback
For those who prefer the old fashioned (but alas, far more expensive) way of reading. This book is now available in hardback, at least in the UK. I'm not sure about the USA and if someone could confirm ya or nay, I'd appreciate it.

Help me think of a more useful Computer Science end project!
The current plan of the teacher is for 10 16 to 18-year-old students to create and program a machine with lego-stuff that effectively sorts different colours of candy. I'm really annoyed by the prospect of spending many hours on creating something utterly useless.
Better ideas? It needs broadness, with different aspects and groups working together.

Old white people debating who can spend more of your money, make government bigger, eat the rich and take your freedom.

TrP ""A capitalist sees a poor man. He reaches into his pocket and gives him $20 to buy lunch." just look at the Gates foundation. Gates and Buffet are giving away all of their wealth.

1. Philanthropists are in the minority of rich people
2. They aren't going to hire people who are useless to their company. It may not be their fault they are not useful to the economy (e.g. injury, sickness, failure of society), yet human decency means we can't just leave them to die.

Since you are obviously one of the takers, and not one of the producers, you realy have no clue how much charity is given. Eat the rich. Then in a few years you will run out of food. The poor do not create wealth. The poor do not give people jobs.

All of the homeless in our nation must be mentally deranged. Man where do you live? Rural Kentucky? There are homeless people all over the nation going without food and medical care.

Well, BOG, Zimbabwe's non-socialist government seized the land of white private farmers and gave it, as private land, to political supporters. It was a way of putting down opposition, not handing land over to workers. The farm industry wasn't nationalized.

"The poor do not create wealth." Because of capitalism.
TrPrado (461 D)

"Point to one person who goes hungry." Veterans on the street, as well as many poor families.
"Point to one person turned away from a hospital for care." Anyone without insurance.

"Only the severely mentally deranged." Who would therein need medical care.
BaldOldGuy (74 DX)

TrP ""The poor do not create wealth." Because of capitalism." You can't be serious. There is no capitalism in Haiti. There are poor. There is no capitalism in Zimbabwe. There are poor. There was no capitalism in the Soviet union. Everyone was poor, except for the 'more equal' pigs. You are delusional. Your religion of socialism simply does not work.

We have 47 million on foodstamps. Nobody goes hungry except for the severely mentally disabled. But there are programs for these people.

NOBODY gets turned away from a hospital because they don't have insurance. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW! Public and private hospitals alike are prohibited by law from denying a patient care in an emergency. The Emergency Medical and Treatment Labor Act (EMTLA) passed by Congress in 1986 explicitly forbids the denial of care to indigent or uninsured patients based on a lack of ability to pay
TrPrado (461 D)

"We have 47 million on foodstamps. Nobody goes hungry except for the severely mentally disabled." There is a qualification process, and not all poor qualify for food stamps, and some semi-wealthy do qualify. It's a broken system. Not everyone goes to sleep on a full stomach.
"IT IS AGAINST THE LAW!" Law is a government function. Why are you so in favor of big government?
TrPrado (461 D)
19 Oct 15 UTC
Also, you realize that there has never been a purely socialist society. There is a spectrum with socialism on one end and laissez-faire on the other. Some Western countries tried laissez-faire and realized that people suffer until government fixes the system, and no one has tried a purely socialist economy. Stalinism wasn't purely socialist, Maoism isn't purely socialist. Just about every country on the planet has some degree of a mixed economic system, because no one wants to try the purest extreme form of either end of that spectrum, so just about every country on the planet has some degree of capitalism. Saying capitalism is a panacea for suffering and financial and living troubles is naive at best.

"Saying capitalism is a panacea for suffering and financial and living troubles is naive at best." Try educating yourself. Read Milton Friedman's "Capitalism and Freedom" But this is the basic concept you cannot grasp - the Bell Curve is real. There will always be poor. That is why we have charity - to help those who do not have the ability to succeed on their own. Some will do well, sometimes by luck. Some will do poorly, even when they work hard. But everyone does better under capitalism. Mandating equality of outcomes never increases the greater good.
TrPrado (461 D)

I support a form of capitalism. Don't forget that very important detail. I'm just also realistic.

No diversity of opinion here, either. Looks like I'm the only one not on the dole, or people who support a constitutional view of government are afraid of being pilloried. .

I want the federal government to 'do' what the constitution says it should do. Mint currency. Have a military to keep us from being invaded. A few other other things. There is NOTHING in the constitution about things like Health care, retirement income, marriage, abortion, gas mileage, providing subsidies to solar energy other businesses. Government overreach is amazing. We need to enforce the 10th amendment.

Even the Danes are waking up.

Which Provinces Are Occupied The Least/Most?
I was thinking about this the other day. Which province, spends, on average, the highest percentage of its time being occupied by a unit. Or being empty? Empty, I think we can all agree would be North Africa (?) although I'm open to suggestion. But what about second most empty?
