That is an incorrect interpretation of that vote. That vote told one specific college that it had to design the program to meat its targets and achieve diversity, not just deny every white who came along in favor of a black which does *not* promote diversity.

This is not to say that it is not based on physical evidence , on what the eye sees. What it means is that the meaning we give to what the eye sees , and the value that attaches to those meanings , ar the result of an interpretation of what we see. And this interpretation is itself grounded in a social, historical, and ideological setting

So, Cach, explain why people want to label Zimmerman as white? He wasn't raised with the crackers like me. In fact, the community he lives in is "a mixed race gated community" and TM's dad's fiancé lived there. So unless his dad was into mixed race relationships, she was most likely African American.

Obama, on the other hand, was raised in Hawaii all but two years of his youth when he lived in Indonesia. So not exactly raised in the urban culture. What makes him associate as black when there is no significant black culture in his upbringing? If race is cultural, then Obama should be Kanaka Maoli or Polynesian as that was the culture he was raised in.
