I’ll respond to your comments about me in a moment. But first, this is a fascinating and abrupt transition.

At page 1 you say “Balki is town.”

At page 4 you make an argument that DO is scum based on the incorrect use of “bussing.”

At page 5 I call you out for your poor case on DO.

At the bottom of page 5 you say that my questions were poor and I’m on your radar, and at page 6 you say “Balki actually hasn't done shit besides that big post” and you vote Balki.

All this in response to me calling out what you acknowledged immediately was a “Weak argument” on your part.

I tried to imagine before I posted how a Mafia Y2K might react to my questions. I figured there would be a bit of defensiveness, and perhaps he would proceed against Demon a bit less aggressively.

I don’t have to imagine how a Town Y2K would react. Just last game, I called you out for another weak argument you made in about the same stage of the game, when you said that you thought Maniac was playing pretty much the way he always plays as town and gave him a town read. I explained that he seemed less fearless and was more likely to be scum. You looked carefully, and changed your view.

Your reaction here, to come after me immediately afterwards, to change your read on me from town to mafia, and to vote for me, is a surprise. It is certainly wholly different from your reaction as Town Y2K last game. It is a bit more aggressive than I expected as Mafia Y2K, and I’m not sure if that raises more red flags or less.

Please explain your abrupt change. I’d like to hear why you were so quick to town read me on page 1, and I’d like to hear more about why you think I’m most likely to be mafia now.

my abrupt change is an evolution of a read. if you had challenged me on other reasons why DO could actually be scum and what i thought of them, like you even reference before you throw your questions at me, i would think you were honestly trying to see if i really was town scum-reading DO. but instead you throw 4 leading questions at me that do none of the sort. what are you trying to figure out about me? or are you just trying to paint me scummy?

yes, my reason to vote DO on page 2 or 3 or whenever I did it was weak and based on very few interactions given, well, it's page 2 or 3. i admit it, you'll see this is exactly what i started off with in M10. i'm stirring the pot.

when i see early posts that seem helpful to town at the onset, i town-read those players early. you had that initially, Balki. ghug and uclabb fit this bill as well. gotta back it up though, i feel that ghug and uclabb have generally backed it up, and you've done the opposite.

Ok roleplay mode is on. In reading the past games compared to how ghug is acting so far this game I'm kinda worried about him. He is more outwards and purposefully blaming others so far then the other games. Could be a coincidence but I don't want my life staked on a chance!

Regarding Y2K and Bo’s questions to and comments about me:

Bo says: “why are you reminding whoever claims at the end of the day not to claim a specific role? It seems fairly obvious. I think PRs know that.”

ANSWER: It may be obvious. I’ve never seen a “PR” claim in the two games I’ve played here and the one game I’ve read. I found it to be worth mentioning in this game, where I think it’s important that we safeguard our PRs carefully in the early days.

Bo says “I also wonder why you're so quick to note ‘real authenticity’ to a back-and-forth conversation at the beginning of day 1. That phrase seems out of place to me.”

ANSWER: We have 19 participants (using a charitable description of that term for folks like guak). 14 are motivated to engage in a sincere or authentic search for information that they lack. 5 are trying to blend in and simulate an authentic search. I think that it’s important to keep that dichotomy at top of mind.

You will hear me use words like “authentic” and “sincere” versus “manufactured” because those are the characteristics for which I’m hunting. I think this is a better approach than calling out supposed “scumslips,” as if mafia is more likely to accidentally misuse a glossary term or accidentally refer to mafia as “we.”

Also, generally, I may frequently state what you think is obvious. But we have all sorts of players who play in all sorts of ways, and I will err on the side of spelling things out if I think there are some people who should hear it.

ANSWER: Yes, they were leading questions. Useful for making a point, which is what I was trying to do.

ANSWER: I don't see how it is convoluted. It's organized to address several topics that appear on several prior pages. I want my thoughts to be together for town's convenience. And my post was not a protection of Demon so much as it was an indictment of your poor argument. Your poor argument directed at Demon does not make her more likely to be town, unless you are mafia. We will see.

Let's not overgeneralize. In that instance, I wanted to make clear why your argument on Demon was poor and appeared to be beneath Town Y2K. I think you set a high standard in the last game before you were night killed, as I explained in the game. Your certainty about Demon (and I consider 70% to be surprisingly high at this stage) based on this poor argument seems to me to be inauthentic.

Regarding my thoughts on Demon -- I don't know. I don't yet have a position.

The post that stands out for me the most so far is Demon’s post on page 3. She says this:

Wjessop is already getting quite defensive and still continues to joke vote even when a moderately serious case has been set against him. Agreeing with damien's analysis right now.

I don’t agree with that meta on WJessop (I didn’t play MX, but I read it). And WJessop’s early short posts seem to me both (a) an example of early joke posts that don’t matter, and (b) not the sort of thing that someone with something to hide would post. Also, I’m struck by the fact that there are quite a lot of divisions and accusations at play in the town already. I would expect the five Others among us to be mostly fanning preexisting flames, not going out on a limb to start new ones.

On the other hand, I don’t buy any of the “scumslip” arguments about Demon’s play so far. I don’t think that anyone is going to find mafia by watching carefully for who misuses a “mafia term.”

@Demon, you’re on a lot of people’s radars right now, for some good reasons, and some bad reasons. I hope that you spend the next 24 hours or so working hard for town and making strong arguments, so that we can all get a good read on whether your arguments are sincere or not."

that's quite the analysis for not having a position. not a single question for her either. do you not care about your official position on DO? is it not important for town to know in your mind?

I don't want to be side-tracked by this. I don't have opinions on lots of people. I told Demon what I want her to do in the next 24 hours, and I think she bears some scrutiny. When I have a position on Demon, you'll know it.

Toemato, can you try giving your opinions on this game alone? For a new player, you really shouldn't be using meta arguments concerning people's play in other games, if you are in fact town then you're setting yourself up for bad tunneling by doing that. it's ok to consider past games, but they shouldn't be the primary reason for your accusations.
