Pause error?
Two of my games just spontaneously went into pause without any of the players voting "pause". Is this happening to anyone else? Is there a bug?

MAD MARX GUNBOAT CHALLENGE
MadMarx is, without argument, the best player on this site. He claims to be bored, though, with his regular rotation of classic Diplomacy games. So why not try something new? I challenge you, MM, to a single game of gunboat with some of the top gunboaters on this site. You can have final approval over pot size, phase length, and the other players in the game. What do you say?

China, Russia, Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador--Snowden's Idea of a "Free State?"
http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/snowden-washington-reaction-182004272.html "The freedom trail is not exactly China-Russia-Cuba-Venezuela" I have to agree...explain to me again how this guy's a symbol for freedom again (and again, do so WITHOUT saying "Well, the NSA was wrong--" YES. YES IT WAS. That does NOT mean this guy's good...really? Why pick those states, if he couldn't stand what the NSA was doing...they're not exactly Paradises of Government Transparency either...)

I want to be a league Substitute Please
Hi! I have been here at WebDiplomacy since the start of the year. Have played a lot of fun games and have been doing OK. Someone suggested that league games were a lot more strategic and the "done thing" was to sign up via the forums. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Joel.

So in Holland, as in all other countries, there are kids teased in schools. The government has gone through great lengths to "protect them", a dangerous development if you ask me.

interest in a 17 player world gunboat tourney?
I was thinking anywhere from 5-8 games depending on the interest. 5 pts. 24 hour turns.

If interested, please pm me, and I can set up a tournament. This seems to be the only way to get rid of metas....

I have two questions to ask.
1. If I don't like a player and don't want to pause the game per that person's request, can the Mod pauses the game for that person?

2. If a person does not want to work and I don't want to give the person's my spare changes, can the government tax me then give the other person some welfare?

Great game in #1. Jimgov did a super job. The other three did a great job coming together to stop the solo. A real fun game. Jimgov, you should great patience in waiting for that stab---I'm not sure you could have done it any better.
Why on earth did you press draw, jimmer?
jimgov (219 D(B))
09 Jun 13 UTC
@Lando - Well there was no chance of a gain in the west. I had that stupid fleet in Sev. I had no army in Tri, so I couldn't attack from Tyr to Boh this turn. By next turn, the army in Prussia would be in Sil, so Boh would be out of reach. By the time I replaced my fleet with an army (only one move, I know) I couldn't see any way that 3 good players couldn't keep me from soloing. So...draw. I think my reasoning is sound, but if someone sees a flaw there, please let me know.
jimgov (219 D(B))
09 Jun 13 UTC
And BTW, I am absolutely positive that I made several mistakes there in the last few years. I don't know if it would have made any difference, but they are there.
Russia's last order was a support move to SEV with UKR. Furthermore, England moved MUN-TYR. Again, this implies he does not understand the stalemate available. This implies he does not understand the stalemate line available.

As you exploit these weaknesses they are forced to adjust and their units are potentially dislodged and destroyed. I don't understand why you from a 17 centre position would draw before a stalemate has been registered.

I think your chances to win were low, but certainly not nil.
... mistyping, I should have tried to indicate that neither England nor Russia understood the Western stalemate.
* Eastern.

Sorry.
jcbryan97 (134 D)

I think the stalemate was achieved. I think the 3 had all the necessary positions. Things like moving to TYR and SEV were just to speed up the process. And Russia was moving with MOS with support from UKR which is fine. Same as my move from MUN to TYR.

09 Jun 13 UTC
The necessary units were in place to achieve a stalemate, but the orders of those units didn't form a stalemate. jim had nothing to lose by pressing until the proper orders were placed.
JCB - his use of UKR to attack SEV allowed the stalemate to be compromised. It would ahve allowed GAL to be taken much like England's orders put BOH and SIL in a compromised position. With SIL, the stalemate would be broken at least temporarily.
Galicia is reachable for Turkey but when he takes Galicia he has the stalemate line formed.imo.
Similarly, France was also an unkown. If Turkey had move to GAS and brought a follow-up unit he may have had a chance for BUR. It was unknown if France would continue to support BRE or finish the line with PAR s BUR

09 Jun 13 UTC
It looks like Russia was headed from Pru to Sil anyway, so disbanding the unit in Gal wouldn't have mattered. I understand what Lando's saying though, why not give them the opportunity to mess it up.
Turkey made a mistake in spring '10 - I would have moved Rumania to Ukraine instead of to Galicia...
Right, disband GAL and you are left with SIL s BOH but if England keeps poking TYR you can GAL-SIL and VIE s TYR-BOH. From there, another disbanded unit and there is nothing left to hold SIL. Take SIL and Russia has retreat options to BER or PRU and likely a new unit heading from STP-LIV. LIV s WAR but now SIL can poke WAR and UKR can be taken, another disbanded unit.

If I were Russia i would have fallen back to the real stalemate and just sat on it.

There is an interesting philosophy I have discovered in playing this game that people think a strogn attack against the solo threat will deter them. However, some players fail to understand that attacking the solo threat is a good way to lose their stalemate line. The solo threat is not worried about losing the game, so there is no reason for them to get scared and draw, it just gives them opportunities.

Well, that is a lot to digest. I guess that I was operating under the assumption that they knew what they were doing. They locked up the west pretty well. And even with all of these permutations, I still don't see the 18th SC that I could take. Oh well, if I screwed up then I screwed up. It was a good game, though.

09 Jun 13 UTC
@Split - Yep. You are right. I should have gone for Ukr instead of Gal. Like I said, mistakes were made.
