Wonderful World of Warfare: A WorldDip game for talkers.
Hello everyone! I just created a world game in hopes that we can get a fun, clean game together. The meek and anti-social need not apply.

Off-topic: Browser Game
I've been playing a little browser game that lets you built up a squad of soldiers and customize them in order for them to fight automatically against other opponents.
It's quite nifty overall if you get into it and only take a couple of minutes each day.

Credibility issues after stabbing
Hey everyone,
I had a little issue I was curious about on stabbing: is that really the path to winning this game? I always find it a waste of good faith-building in an alliance to resort to simple terrain nicking at some point when you have so many more options (see follow up):

People missing orders
Argh! The first two games I play on here, two powers failed to submit Spring 1901 orders, which really fucks things up. :( I wish there was some sort of penalty for this or that webdiplomacy would send emails when a game starts and when you have orders due...

The fact that Congress owns a quarter million private residences is proof beyond a doubt that capitalism didn't cause the financial meltdown, government did.

Really sorry about the delay with game three. It will happen as soon as we figure out the technical issue with replacing this one player. I think we're going to forgo the 4th game (round 2 only has 3 anyway), that way the first leg will be done by end-June, leaving July for the second leg and August for the finals.

Ok, this may sound dumb, but I can't figure it out. Does central America on the world board have a panama canal? It doesn't have a costal designation so is it possible to move from the east side of south America to the west side through there?

This is part of a larger work I'm working on, so please bear that in mind, this is NOT meant to be a stand-alone piece...I'll be posting the section I have here in three parts, plus a short "Prologue" just to explain what this is all about. 200001: A Past Legacy
Every human life on Earth, tomorrow, suddenly vanishes. Mankind is gone for good. But you learn that by the year 200001, either the Apes will rise, or space aliens will come along...SOMEONE will populate Earth once more, and wonder who used to live here. You build a Mt. Mankind: 10 Heads of anyone who's ever lived, and one relic/piece of work of theirs to tell the future who humans were. Who, and what, do you choose?

I used to smoke down quite a bit, and then I decided that I'd rather do something with my life other than lay on the couch watching Willy Wonka. One thing I always liked about pot, even afterward, was how time flowed very differently when stoned, something I can't really say for any of the various and sundry other things I've done. But in the end, it was just money spent with no real purpose, so I culled it from my budget. If someone passed me a joint right now, I'm unsure if I'd hit it or not.
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

@SacredDigits

I can respect that, at least your critisism comes from actual experience.
I've always been something of an "active-stoner", so i don't really see it as a drain
I smoked on a handful of occasions and never really saw the pull of it. I got really high once and couldnt stop laughing which was funny for a bit. But otherwise it was really nothing special. Id get drunk or take mushrooms hands down.
SacredDigits (102 D)

I dunno, I hate the taste of shrooms, but at the same time, I hate that shaky feeling you get when you come down from acid. So really, it was all about when I wanted to hate life: before the trip or after. Acid was more intense, but shrooms were more...I dunno, less likely to get you in serious trouble.
krellin (80 DX)
30 Aug 11 UTC
@Sacred....I was *very* creative when stoned. wrote some fantastic papers. Even wrote one....first and only draft....that made it into the next semester's classwork. I found pot to be *extremely* motivating!
SacredDigits (102 D)

Maybe I smoked the wrong pot.

Or maybe it's true what they say, "It accentuates your personality" and I'm just naturally lazy.

In my early days of smoking it used to make music sound amazing. Really amazing. I got turned on to heaps of music that previously did nothing for me because I heard it when I was bent.
I also used to enjoy films more (not anymore because I fall asleep).
Also if I watched documentaries I used to get really profound thoughts like "wow... people live in China! And speak Chinese to each other!" (not really profound but it used to seem profound in a kind-of Bill and Ted way).
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

@spyman

Incredibly true. I used to get stoned and draw these really abstract, profound, metaphorical meanings from things that are impossible to understand in a sober state

Two Marijuana truths (for the "secret" smokers)

1. It DOES affect you.

2. People can tell that you've smoked that day. In other words, it's not a secret.
damian (675 D)
30 Aug 11 UTC
Now I don't smoke, and I really am not very fond of pot. For a couple reasons.

1) It reeks, absolutely reeks.

2) I dislike the idea of losing control over my actions, and potential brain damage (which can occur from lighting up too young.)

3) It destroy's social gatherings for me. Someone lights up and I have to leave, I can't stand the smell.

4) Laced weed.

That said I'm in favour of a law to make smoking and possession of a small amount of it legal including growing 1-2 plants, though not the selling of it. I have some friends who do it and I have a great deal of respect for, and while it isn't a lifestyle choice for me. I'm cool with it being their lifestyle choice, and I don't feel they should be arrested for lighting up.
@damian 1 and 3 I can understand. As for 2, my understanding is that it can aggravate symptoms of schizophrenia in teenagers if smoked heavily. 4 is an urban legend.
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

@AverageWhiteBoy

Laced weed is in no way an Urban Legend. They're are some really shitty dealers who lace their stuff.
spyman (424 D(G))
30 Aug 11 UTC
No so sure about urban legend...
http://www.schizophrenia.com/prevention/streetdrugs.html
Their ARE extremely shitty dealers who will do things like sell you a combination of meth and heroin and call it "ecstasy." There are economic reasons for that. But lacing pot simply doesn't happen. It's the cheapest drug there is. There is no economic incentive to cut it, and nothing worth cutting it with.

And no, the schizophrenia thing is not an urban legend. Lacing is.
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)
30 Aug 11 UTC
Not true, some dealers will lace their stuff to either:
A) get you addiccted to harder stuff that you must then buy from them
B) give you some form of "roofie" and put you in a position where you can be taken advantage of

In my job I see the drain booze has in society every single day so many resources and money are wasted I have only ever been to one person who had a panic attack due to weed

If you live for pot, you're a loser, and the reason why people hate most people who smoke- like beer, or anything else- it has it's place in life if it doesn't consume you. EVERYTHING in moderation I say. I haven't smoked in about 6 months, but would never discount it's attributes...
For those who have psychiatric issues- don't use it
damian (675 D)
30 Aug 11 UTC
Maybe laced weed is an urban legend were you are. But not around here.
SacredDigits (102 D)
30 Aug 11 UTC
As dangerous in some ways as laced weed is padded weed. There's a number of other herbs that look like...herb and are cheaper to get. So an unscrupulous dealer can fill his weed out with oregano and whatnot. Not only are you getting ripped off, but not all of those plants are as...smokeable...as weed itself and could cause problems.
rkane (463 D)

Pot can make mundane chores quite tolerable. Get high, put some music on the headphones and wash the shit out of the dishes. If I get high enough I can clean the whole damn house.
Gunfighter06 (224 D)

I don't use marijuana because it is terrible for your health. Anyone who says otherwise is blowing smoke. It has its place in medicine, but it's kind of like chemotherapy. It is a near miracle drug for certain conditions, but it harms you as much as it helps you.

As a police officer, I am responsible for arresting users. It is kind of annoying to arrest people for a soft drug like weed, but it is not that big of a distraction from real crime (where I work). I don't make that many drug arrests because I work in an area that doesn't have a big drug problem.

Alcohol is worse for your health
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Aug 11 UTC
Hmmm... COPD from smoking MJ or scirosis of the liver from alcohol abuse. Seems both have their health issues and neither very good. But alcohol only directly affects the health of the person drinking where as pot has second hand smoke issues the same as tobacco.
trim101 (363 D)
30 Aug 11 UTC
Alcohol effects far more than the liver, can and frequently does cause epilepsy, diabetes, causes high blood pressure and that's just for starters, and copd is such a catch all phrase doesn't necessarily have to be dangerous
Draugnar (0 DX)
30 Aug 11 UTC
OK, how about cancer and diabetes and high blood pressure for smoking as well. Most of what you just listed can be attributed to *both*.
trim101 (363 D)
30 Aug 11 UTC
Diabetes and smoking I don't think so u got proof, and I thought we were just talking about weed causual user doesn't smoke enough to do much harm whereas even a casual drinking is effecting their health

Diabetes and smoking...

Idea for a new betting system: % instead of # of points
I'd like to suggest a new option in which the required bet for a game is an equal percentage of a player's total points (including those in play) instead of a set number of points. In practice, the relative investment for all players would be more equal and could encourage underdogs to take on the richest players on the site.
