Speaking of such, because of the frequent power cuts in Senegal I have been doing quite a lot of writing here, which I am loving. I haven't written this much in months (years?).

I am writing a story and I guess I will post for you guys to read when I finish if you like - I guess it's science fiction... I'm not sure.

I have some other stories written already if you (or just obi) would like to see but I have to get them off my old computer back in America. But I'd be glad to share those too.

We should just start like a "writers' thread" where we post stuff and critique each other.

I start awake hearing a sound, like the clatter from one of the kitchen chairs being knocked over downstairs. I open my eyes, turn my head and look at the clock radio. Two seventeen a.m. It's quiet. What's that? I think I just heard someone walking downstairs. A quiet tread. Walking around the living room it sounds like. I swing free of the covers and quietly pivot my feet onto the floor. I can't hear anything now. I wait for a few seconds and adjust my vision to the darkness. I crouch and walk to my bedroom doorway. Still no sound. I look straight out the doorway and see the top of the stairs and part of the upstairs hall. Empty. Still no sound.

I'm sorry maple, but that little segment isn't much. You're a bit jumbled, for instance the eyes of your character would've been adjusting to the dark from the moment he opened them, and looked at the clock. No need to mention it. If the pause is important, then give another reason for it. However, honestly, I see little point to the vignette you posted.

@WD - Good factual point, but it's ART, baby. The point was to illustrate the use of a straight narrative to create and heighten suspense.
