CD decision too aggressive?
I have seen two players CD in games today, where it didn't look correct. In both cases, there last two moves were ones which they didn't have any choice (forced disband in retreat or build phase). Perhaps it is just coincidence, but has anyone else noticed this?

Please delete my account
Then delete this thread. You owe us an option to delete our accounts. It should be next on your TODO list.
Thanks.
I want to quit because I found play by email simpler and more satisfying. This whole betting thing really drives me round the bend(especially, that is) and I'd like to have my account removed for that and several other reason.
On a happier note, good work on the webpage!

"zckls- someone did his homework. well done"
this is exactly why you people are morons.
You cannot accept an opinion if it is not stated in a least 1000 words essay.
Actually, if you weren't such fools you would see that zckls also didn't provide anything to back up what he's saying. He just gave his opinion some length to easily convince people with cockroach sized brains.
you think I'm going to sit down and waste half an hour to write essays for you?
If you pay me 60euros per hour, I may do it.
Sorry, but for the time being I prefer trolling.
You don't deserve anything better.
Ban people like ottovandick and Draugnar and I may start responding more seriously
zckls, thanks for backing up anyway.

The relevant document is directive 2002/58/EC of the EU Parliament concerning the "processing of personal data and the protection of privacy in the electronic communications sector". Obviously I can't source the US law because to my knowledge there isn't one. I'm happy to be corrected though.
zckls04 (100 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
(for the record though, I do believe it should be standard practice for all websites to offer a delete account option- I just don't think the law requires it right now).

Being a european, I would like to state my understanding of hellait's "right to be removed from a website" arguement.

I am in the UK so I accept that different countries within the EU have different laws. In the UK I think our rights are outlined in the Data Protection Act (19??). In that act we (the citizens) have a right (a) request what information is held about us (b) ask for anything that is incorrrect to be corrected (c) ask to be removed from any list that send out unsolicited marketting material (d) prevent automatic decision making (e) complain compensation if we suffer distress.

I can't see how any of these rights imply that we have the right to be removed from a membership list (providing our details are accurate). The auto decission making thing only applies to significant decissions so I don't think that applies here.

Any claim for compensation for suffering would be tricky, because any suffering wasn't as a result of the data held being incorrected collected or used.

I think Hellait's argument wouldn't stand up to close srutny in the UK.

Having said that, I'm a Maniac so what do I know?
zckls04 (100 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
We are bound by EU law in this instance, which supercedes the DPA.

I do not understand these please remove my account threads. Unfortunately the people who start them rarely follow up on any further explanation in response to the answer given to them. All the accounts consist of is a username and games played. We don't generally share any personal information and if we did (such as email address) we can remove those ourselves. As far as removing any record that a particular account one existed - which consists only of the games we played, what is else there to delelte?
kestasjk (95 DMod(P))
22 Nov 09 UTC
I also don't get it spyman, just can't get my head around the reasons. Plus it's not like this is the one site on the net that doesn't let you erase all your information, I don't know any sites/software that really does.

I get the feeling it's more of an "I'm leaving in a huff and want to blow off some steam" sort of thing than "my privacy is being violated and I have a serious objection"
spyman (424 D(G))
22 Nov 09 UTC
Kestas, they don't seem to actually give any reasons. I think you're right about "I'm leaving in a huff"... "blah, blah, blah."
jmo1121109 (3812 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Do people honestly think companies like face-book and yahoo do not keep all of your information when an account is deactivated?
hellalt (70 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Kestas you are a programmer, that's why you can't even understand it.
"Plus it's not like this is the one site on the net that doesn't let you erase all your information." You are right, this is the second site, facebook is the other one.
If you look at terms of service of almost every site there is always an article about account termination upon request or due to a ban.
It's not that you don't see reasons to implement a delete account function. It's just that you choose to ignore it.
I ll give you another example why account deletion is needed.
Let's say I join in 2009, play on game and never come back.
Kestas decides in 2010 to ask for a fee.
He sends a personal message to all members saying you ll have to pay a fee. if you object respond to the email "blahblah"
I have left the site before 1 year but now I'm suddenly obliged to pay kestat since I didn't object.
Is that fair?
TheGhostmaker (1545 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
What the hell? How exactly can Kestas legally oblige you to pay a fee because you didn't delete an account?
Noob179 (645 D)

@Hellalt... I think you personally should have to pay a fee starting in 2009 for the duress you cause others.. ;-)

hellalt (70 D)

So be my guest and continue being Kestas bitches.

A petition to make hellalt pay a fee!

We, the undersigned, urge those responsible for the upkeep of this site, to implement a policy (written in the Terms and Conditions of wepdiplomacy.net, to avoid hellalt's opposition), which requires all users named "hellalt" to pay a fee of $5 or equivalent currency per month. It should be noted that hellalt will required to pay this fee for life, as his account cannot be deleted. We also declare that this petition does not fall under the jurisdiction of Greek law.

lol, how exactly is he going to charge this fee based on your email address at most? Is it going to come out of your diplomacy points?
hellalt (70 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Ip in combination with email are enough for all sites to charge users.
Hibiskiss (631 D)
22 Nov 09 UTC
Oh yeah, based on what? So if I use your unsecured wireless and use your public e-mail they can charge you?

I already know it's ridiculous but I'd like to hear you try and explain this.
