Splitting the forum is not feasible, and I can understand that much. But my sentiment matches Chaqa's. There used to be a very freedom-of-speech centered ideal here when kestas ran the place. That was kinda smashed in 2012. We practiced self-moderation and for a while it was successful. Controversial issues aren't really discussed as vehemently as before due to the constant locks and silences. People aren't as candid. There's less banter.

And there's the fact of - do most people on this site even look at the forum? No. If that's the case, why would the content of the forum be the dealbreaker for if they stay or if they go? I apologize, because these are arguments the team has heard from me before, but if we're talking about changing what the site has to offer, trying to advertise to gain players and looking into a dev to give the site a facelift, should we not also reconsider this?

Splitting the forum into diplomacy v non-diplomacy would heavily decrease forum traffic overall, in my opinion, since non-diplomacy would be the "off-topic" section, and few people go there.

I joined in 2014. I don't remember much it's all a blur, but I DO remember getting slightly aroused upon seeing the forum.

Just people bashing each other left and right and the most insane topics. I mentioned this before I think. I learned so much back in those days and would go through pages and pages of arguments and discussions whether it's politics or social commentary or whatever. Whose to say the forum couldn't be a tool to ATTRACT new players rather than push them away? I know I loved it.

And the point goldfinger made is true. The forum was a magnet to an ACTIVE user base. Who gives a shit if some new people join and play a few games a year? You'd throw the users who are the FOUNDATION and heart and soul of the site for them??

The best forum user of 2014 was THELEGION.

I have no where else to play diplomacy. I'm not going back to playdip. If this site dies, then my love for this game dies with it.

I know high level players have left in part because of forum nonsense. When I first joined I had to mute huge chunks of the forum just to cut through all the noise and find conversations that were actually about diplomacy.

I've been reminded the Great Purge was in 2014. But the hostile forum environment was going on long before then.

After krellin was silenced and everyone was super tense dividing themselves into pro-mod and anti-mod camps, the forum was a little unbearable, and THELEGION was a much needed levity at the time. You guys think brainbomb posts are stupid, boy what a time it was back then. This guy came up with the most absurd things he could think of, like a story how he drank kool-aid and started tripping because of the sugar rush. I loved it. He's banned because of his absurdity though. He tried prancing everyone by pretending to use the forum to set up a fight with a friend and claimed police got involved.

To be fair I was around back then. I never posted to the forum because it was absurdly unwelcoming. I saw the things nigee, and that flag guy were saying.

But you see? Those times of conflict gave us stories and memories. It created a sort of meta-history to the site, and fleshed things out. Now its just overwhelmingly the same bland stuff with a few blips here and there.

I left webdip from 2013-last october. Just got burnt out of playing.

It was a good ride. While it lasted. The desire to grow and attract more users led to the ridiculous decision to ban people who may or may not have pushed people away.
