I think I've made it quite clear in this thread that I don't judge people based off of their skin color or anything like that, so why the fuck are people still going off on that? Pardon me if I go hang out with my friends some of whom are, get this, black. Holy shit, you mean Iceray0 has friends that are black and goes back and forth with jokes about whatever subject were talking about? Oh no everybody go into a panic! Iceray0 made a black joke because making jokes like that are the social norm for everybody that isn't a toolbag and can realize he doesn't mean them as offensive. Jim LITERALLY said all black people are a family, so does that mean I can say things like, all black people suck? At what point does your hypocrisy end? Inappropriate things are up to whoever is reading them, some people don't like Chris Rocks jokes because they think they are inappropriate, I don't know anyone that dislikes Chris Rock and listens to his shows. That would be really stupid to do would it not? So why are you in a thread that you don't like?

I don't think you understand at all doofman. This is a community here. You may go to a Chris Rock concert to hear him tell his jokes, but you know what you are getting from the beginning. This is a diplomacy community. I would bet that most of us didn't join here thinking that there would be racist jokes on the forum. I know that I didn't. There is a big difference. It's not a double standard. And, once again, I would bet that any black or minority members of this site feel a little more uncomfortable now than they did yesterday. And that blows.

@Iceray: Don't put words into people's mouths. jimgov merely made an analogy to offending someone in your family. When he said that about black people he was merely referring them as a group (granted family was a poor word choice). And just because you have black friend's does not discount you from being a racist (not that I am implying you are one.) Anyway, the jokes are offensive, but I do think it is a stretch to call Ice a racist for the jokes he tells. You may find them offensive, but it does not make him a racist. Imo.

3. Inappropriateness is in the eye of the beholder, yes, I'll concede that, but when more people find it offensive than don't, you have a problem.

Jim you knew you were getting into racist jokes the second you opened this thread so don't even try and go there. Wydend I didn't put words in his mouth, he said those words. So if I'm hanging out with white people and they make black jokes that's considered racist but if I hang out with black people and they say black people jokes it's wrong if I join in? What?

I didn't say having black friends made it ok but if they say a black joke you accept that as ok but if I join in it's wrong? guys, I really really don't think people postings jokes here are doing so because they are racist or because they want an acceptable platform to be racist on... that accusation is over the top.
I'd also be surprised if more people found this offensive than didn't find it so... from my experience people almost never get offended.
The (arguably sad) fact is that jokes that make fun or someone or something else can often be very funny, just like in Family Guy where Stewie beats the crap out of Brian and its hilarious. Its just human nature.
That is the reason people tell jokes.

Again, family may have been a poor choice, but hey whats done is done. Was it funny when Ted Danson showed up at Whoppi Goldberg's celebrity roast (1993, for you young folk) in blackface and made racial jokes? No. It was in incredibly bad taste and thoroughly obnoxious. Would it have been funny if Chris Rock or Richard Pryor did it? I doubt it... though they might have gotten more slack about it. Understandably. (Same reason that Mel Brooks can make Jewish jokes and get away with it). It is, I guess, about noblesse oblige, in a sense. Those in power (white people, in this case) are expected to show more restraint against other groups that are not in power - and not to exploit their position of power. Same reason it's considered inappropriate for a boss to make a pass at an employee or a older man making a pass at a much younger woman. It comes with baggage. It is about power.

@Iceray0, you live in society, I presume... this is not somehow divorced from culture in general... this virtual world here is still populated by real people... and being an ass here is the same as being an ass in your local mall or store or school or whatever. The laws on this sort of thing are in flux - especially with sites like this being international in nature... but in many places, the U.S. among them, one is considered to have the right to go into public places (including those that are privately owned, like a store, but are designed to serve the public at large) and not be dealt with in a discriminatory or bigoted way. This is not a white supremacy club and it's not a comedy club for crass people... its a gaming site... people do not come here for this sort of thing - nor should they have to deal with it. It is inappropriate.

Correct, people do not come here for it but apparently they join threads that expressly state what's going on and keep the thread at the top of the homepage so everyone sees it. You honestly don't have to deal with it, you can walk away from this thread at any time that you please but it's apparent that you do not with to walk away.
