Coastal Support -- Quick Question
Assume I have a fleet in Norway and another fleet in St. Petersburg (SC); can these two fleets support-hold each other, even though they are not on adjacent COASTLINES (but in adjacent territories)?

Banlieue 13
i just watched the sequel to Banlieue 13 (one of my favorite movies) last night - sneak preview. it's called Banlieue 13 - Ultimatum. it was great - similar to the first one in a lot of ways, but sweet, fun, ridiculous, and fabulous all at different times. highly recommend it, and i bet this crowd would like it a lot.

New to Diplomacy
I've heard about this game for a long time, but I've never actually played. I found out about this website by watching an online video review of it, so I thought I'd check it out.

I'm posting because I was wondering if there were any tips that anyone could give me in regards to playing the game online and or playing the game in general. I guess, basically the stuff that will keep an inexperienced player from annoying the veterans.

St. Jerome is actually attributed with the "Good, better, best" quote. Tim Duncan stole it.

@ Socrates:
Then how do you know you don't know anything?
Thucydides (864 D(B))

@baumhaeuer

Perhaps a more nuanced way of saying it is "The only thing I know is that I know nothing besides what I just mentioned."

That just doesn't have the dramatic effect, though that's what he meant.

I agree with him; it's also one of my favorite sayings.

Uhm... here are two of my most favorite:

"A clever saying proves nothing."
-Voltaire

and

"Invent a clever saying, and your name will live forever!"
-Anonymous

more seriously there is this:

"There is no journey gone so far we cannot stop and change direction. No doom is written in the stars; it's in our hands."
-"Children of Eden" (A musical)

"The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it."
-from my namesake, Thucydides

"It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees."
-Emiliano Zapata

hard to settle on a favorite though.

I also have 10,000 urges to post 10,000 Voltaire quotes. I prettymuch love Candide and I know so many great quotes from it, but it'd be way too hard to settle on a favourite.

Don Corleone has been asked, on the day of his daughter's wedding, to help his godson get a part in a Hollywood movie. Johnny Fontane had ruined a young starlet the producer was making into a star. The Don says "I'm gonna make him an offer he won't refuse".

Michael, talking about getting Moe Green out of the Casino: "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse."

Michael, talking to Kay about another incident with Johnny Fontane and a bandleader: "He made him an offer he couldn't refuse".

So it really depends on which scene.

Oh, Brando's quote is often written with slight variations. IT's difficult to hear clearly - his cheeks were stuffed with cotton. There's no mistaking the meaning, however.

jwalters93 (288 D)

ehm....that's hard. but if i had to narrow it down, than it would be one of three;

"Never pet a flaming dog"
-Unknown

"Life is pain! Anyone who says diffetently is selling somehing."
-The Princess Bride (paraphrased)

or;

EVIL, aka girls, girls are evil I have a theory...
Girls require time and money
(Girls = Time x Money)
But we all know time is money
(Time = Money)
Therefore
(Girls = Money x Money)
(Money x Money = Money squared)
And beacause money is the root of all evil
(Money = square route of evil)
Therefore
(Girls = (the square route of evil)squared)
so we are forced to conclude that...
(Girls = Evil)

-Matt Snyder
jwalters93 (288 D)
29 Jan 10 UTC
athough, the it's not money that's the root of all evil, it's the LOVE of money....but still, it's a great quote.
Draugnar (0 DX)
29 Jan 10 UTC
And girls require time and money, not time times money, so therefore the equation is
girls = time + money
time = money
girls = money + money
girls = 2 x money
we love girls, therefore we love money*2
we = 2*sqrt(evil)
so we are part evil, as guys.

Now we just need to solve for evil to find how much evil us guys are.
