Game Variant: Declaration of war
I wanted to check the opinions (and maybe gather people interested) to try out something. Haven't check if such variants are already out there and have been tested - would appreciate all feedback.

What ever happened with Hicham and Tux (12966 and 12967)?
There was a post earlier today that is completely gone about their suspicious consecutive numbers and they nearly every game one is in, so is the other. That post is no where to be found although older ones that haven't had new messages since then are. So what happened?

phpDip Mobile?
Anyone have trouble accessing this from a phone? I'm using a Blackberry Storm 9530 and whenever I view a game board my chat just appears as a long list instead of having its own window with its own scroll-bar. It will go behind the map, so if I haven't talked with the person much their message gets hidden. Then it will continue down, overlapping with order information, etc. as far down as it has to.

Anyone else had anything like this? More importantly, anyone know the fix?

i admire your attempts at italics, very appropriate.
the Piedmont deal sounds good.
Now, I really doubt that Germany will bother reading every post in this topic so, i will state my intent again here:
F-E-G alliance. I think it will be mutually beneficial, at least to begin with.
Pandarsenic (1485 D)

[Ottomans]
Italy, I'm definitely open to a full-blown alliance if Austria continues to antagonize me. And you were correct about my opening message's intent. Too bad you weren't Austria. :P
Russia, same for you.
Austria, if you're willing to work with me, I'm still open to it.

But seriously, you guys - it's public press, we can't ally with everyone. =P
At least I was honest about that I was going to attack one of Austria and Russia, unlike England, who appears to have decided not to attack Russia, France, or Germany.
S.P.A.O. (655 D)
22 Jan 09 UTC
Well, in theory we could call it a draw if everyone allies with everyone...
Pandarsenic (1485 D)
22 Jan 09 UTC
That would be hilarious.
Shah (815 D)
22 Jan 09 UTC
Turkey do not believe that I'm not willing to work with you based on the opening messages of the thread. I'm willing to ally myself with whoever I see will be the most beneficial in the long run, regardless if that's Austria, Turkey, Italy or even any of the western powers.
Shah (815 D)
22 Jan 09 UTC
What concerns me is that a English/French/German alliance leaves very few possible opponents for those nations...

For England the only other nation it can attack is Russia
For France its Italy
For Germany either Russia or Austria

As you can see, I would prefer to counter or avoid this all together. I also want to make it clear to England, that if such an alliance were to go forward I would have no choice but to move an army into St. Petersburg
Pandarsenic (1485 D)
22 Jan 09 UTC
[It's Istanbul, not Constantinople]
I'm glad to hear that, Russia.
I think we Eastern powers should come to an agreement on our first-year moves. Namely:

Russia: Do you want to bounce out fleets in BLA or go Rumania with yours while I send mine... I don't know, into Con maybe?
Italy: You'll end your turn in Ionian, Venice, and Apulia, right?
Austria: Any interest in plans that don't involve my death?
S.P.A.O. (655 D)

[France]
A pan - Atlantic Alliance gives us the opportunity to form a straight front right down the middle before the Eastern Countries have time to field all of their units. Notice that Turkey and Austria both have to move thier units too the east to gain new SC's...
Pandarsenic (1485 D)
22 Jan 09 UTC
[Turkey, but not Hungary]
Well, France has to go west and Germany has to go north. We're naturally guided away from each other by the neutral SCs.

France I would be careful of offering a mutual protection pact between myself England and yourself as England has already declared that he is interested in a mutual protection pact with Italy which pincers you in. I propose instead that we team together and delegate responsibilities between our two great nations and avoid the mistakes of the past/future.
My offer would give you sea rights allowing myself to focus on a land assault.
Pandarsenic (1485 D)

A land assault, Germany? On whom, precisely?
nickpareto (100 D)

Russia -
I have received your proposal on the splitting of the scandinavian countries and support your claim to Sweden given that Eastern Europe remains free of troops past the Warsaw borders. If you agree than Denmark, which I will soon be part of the Reich with not impede your advance
nickpareto (100 D)

Sultan my good man, the land assault I mentioned earlier would be focused on the enemies of Germany who might reject a fair offer or establish hostilities against my future allies. I will not throw the first stone for I am no Fuehrer

Austria -
I know you to be a skilled ruler and offer a break from the stale East/West alliance structure that has been suggested thus far. Perhaps our two great nations can forge a new path. I await your envoy.

My dear friend Kaiser, your recent proposal finds favor in my heart. It is, however, by default, the foundation of future cooperation. Is this what you have in mind?
And to further establish the terms of this agreement: I shall train no new armies for the the honor of France, and restrict my activities to the outfit of fleets for Her glory in maritime conquest, wherefore the great nation of Germany shall not, for it's part, outfit any more fleets besides those that have already been created.
Are these the terms that your Imperial Majesty had discerned before?
With all honor and respect, your Servant etc.

Well, Germany, unless you plan to immediately assault Austria (unlikely) or stab/deny France (somewhat likely) then I can guess where you're Russia already.

Greetings Free People of France. I am delighted to receive word back from you and find your offer to be of great interest to the Germany People. I send word that the German people find future cooperation to be of their interest. In accordance with that I offer my fleet for future use in the French armada. I also request convoy rights upon request

[clever reference to Italy]
While the illustrious German Kaiser brings up a good point about you being between England and I, I would like to expound upon our stance further. We are not some great alliance forged in the depths of hell to wreak destruction upon your homeland. Rather, we are humble folk, desiring naught but peace. Toward that end we have pledged merely that an overly aggressive Republic of France would soon find itself in a minor state of disarray. Furthermore, I must caution you against an ambitious naval plan, specifically involving Marseilles. Vague threats become no one, but I would be most wroth if such a thing came to pass.
Shah (815 D)

[Czar]

It seems the western powers are moving closer and closer towards a formal alliance. If this indeed becomes reality the eastern states will need to work together or be systematically divided and defeated.

Turkey - If you wish we can leave the Black Sea neutral, or somehow orchestrate a way for my fleets to enter the Mediterranean. All I ask from you and Austria for that matter, is Romania. After that I will turn my attention to my Western and Northern borders

Austria - Again if the above scenario plays out as East vs West, we can establish a DMZ in Galicia, provided that I'm assured Romania, let me know what else you think we can do.

Also, Pandarsenic: Yes, that's probably where I will end up this turn. However, unless I can get more firm confirmation (or denial) from Curlyxfries about my proposed plan, I can't say for sure.

[I bet you can't name which of Ankara and Smyrna borders BLA]
I have epic dibs on Bulgaria, whatever happens down south.
Italy, if fries is aggressive to me, I'll support a convoy to Greece. If he isn't I suggest you swing west to France.
xcurlyxfries (0 DX)
22 Jan 09 UTC
I suppose if it comes down to a east vrs west game I have no choice but to succumb. I am hoping for Serbia and Greece, since I am the first front the other triple has to face.

Since I will only be able to build army units I expect turkey to only build fleets in the given scenario, as that secures mine and his protection as I can't invade with just armies, and he can't invade with just fleets.

How does this sound?

And Italy, you are welcome to join in if you too only build fleets, I will be keeping an army in Trieste all the time, and wouldn't consider it rude for you to keep one in venice.

[Super Industrious]
Italy, I fear that the German Empires intentions have been misinterpreted. A new path forward does not require the destruction of parties who wish merely to live in peace with their neighbors. If we take nothing as set in stone we can achieve anything our minds and hearts desire.

Russia
I still have yet to hear your thoughts on the outcome of the provinces of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. Surely a people living in such a backwards place need a strong ruler, but that ruler should understand that a single leader can not hope to succeed in ruling all three
Pandarsenic (1485 D)

This would be acceptable, Austria, if it is necessary.

This is shaping up rather strangely - a battle of Northwest against Southeast....

I'm setting up a bunch of small-pot WTA games, with various point-levels and timescales. Anyone wanting to play WTA is invited to join some. If too many take off, then I'll CD out of a few; I can't really cope with more than five turn finishes per day.

What are your favorite and least favorite countries to play as and why?
Favorite: France. You've got good sea room for fleets, and it has excellent position on defense. I was attacked by both England and Germany at the beginning of the last game I won. I was able to fight my way back up my country by myself and eventually win. First country I ever played as well.

Trying to set up games
I have been looking around for standard time gams (24 hours or something like that) but all I find are games with 5-10 point buyins. If anyone wants to try something a little more serious(40-60 points) post here. I made a game before but no one had joined it so it seems to me all the interest is either in tiny point games or in 100+ point games that I don't realy want to play yet.
