"his theory of evolution by no means effectively describes HUMAN evolution."

yeah i hear sexual selection just goes out the window once you become sapient, and anyway, darwin never wrote about THAT in a book called the descent of man which is freely available online

I exaggerated a bit :)

Darwin was influential, but many concepts and advances in evolution theory came years after his death. Evolution theory isn't stuck in the age of Darwin. I'm less capable of continuing on about this as I am not an expert, but I do know that evolution science wasn't just done when Darwin put his work out there.

It's also been abused as Social Darwinism to justified successful businesses and people. Claiming successes were better when the cause was illegal behavior and not a better company or business. Stealing another company's product doesn't make yours better. It just means you got away with the theft.

@Randomizer

"Ha ha James Yanik, when I said I wasn't going into the economics of NHS in UK V similar scheme in USA I meant I wasn't going into % amounts of gdp, actual estimated costs etc"

oh, you mean the important stuff

:You cork brained clown, of course I can still make comments highlighting an economic benefit when discussing the history of the introduction of the NHS in the UK."

Yes, but if you don't take into ALL economics effects of national healthcare, you're being disingenuous. you're saying 'look at these social benefits' and when someone points to this giant tidal wave problem, you close the curtains and say it's nothing

"As to "sources" that support the view that the introduction of the NHS in the UK was a major step forward in improving the living standards of the general population, one that springs to mind is a recent documentary titled "The British, 2,000 years in the making"

I never doubted that it helped the social condition of the people at the time. Thanks for sourcing, but this isn't what I'm arguing.

"I like Orathaic's suggestion that there should be support for those in need, but reducing the numbers of people in need is the priority / important thing to do."

OK! But the problem with national healthcare is that it doesn't reduce the number of people in need. Our poverty rate is much lower than Britain, and while it's difficult to compare standards of living due to the way they're measured, we're beating out many other European socialist countries DESPITE much more diverse demographics, and a larger, disunited nation.

"So the best deliverable, cost effective free to use public education systems and public health care systems that are not free to all, but subsidised to be affordable to lower income earners and free to those in genuine need"

'cost effective' -NO. THIS is what I'm arguing. It is VERY expensive, and it hurts the economy as a whole, and increases the number who need support. It's cost-counter productive

"these imho are two essential things any wealthy nation can afford to INVEST in, and should for reasons of National interest implement."

We are wealthy in standard of living, but not as much as you'd think otherwise. Relative to other countries? our mass makes us strong. But 20 Trillion $ in debt and a dollar currency that is unstable at best makes our ability for massive change, like trying to disarm a nuke with a jackhammer

"You want to make America great again, make the American people the smartest, best educated, healthiest population on the planet & it'll happen."

no. I'm not some populist Trumpian. I support immigration, and most immigrants are the poor, the persecuted, those who need hope. but I HATE when liberals DEMAND immigration, and then say "WHY SO MANY POOR PEOPLE?? CAPITALISM MUST HAVE FAILED, SOCIALISM SOCIALISM SOCIALISM!!!"

"Shouting, dishonesty, divisiveness, increasing the inequities within the American population just won't get you there, imho"

and I haven't been. at the very most I misunderstood what you meant by commenting on economics, but even then you only addressed the economic side that YOU wanted to observe
JamesYanik (548 D)
10 Jan 17 UTC
I feel like I need to make something clear, when you said

"You want to make America great again, make the American people the smartest, best educated, healthiest population on the planet & it'll happen."

I'd love it if everyone were smart, well educated and healthy, but if you think we have the ability to just make that happen, then you're not seriously considering the obstacles we'd have to face, the repercussions of socialist economic plans, and the civil liberties we'd have to strip the citizenry of

Libtards have already dammed him before he's even begun, and they eagerly pounce at any possible weakness. There's just this basic level of brainwashing that most people don't even seem to be aware of. Truly amazing how bigoted they are. Obama has done many terrible things and continues to do so, but has never suffered a peep of criticism from the same people who pre-damn Trump. Maybe if Trump donned le black face he would be a-ok with these fools.

TLDR; liberals are terrible, vicious, bigoted silver spoon or welfare cases

I'm really interested in seeing what happens when the interest rate of the US government's loans outstrips its income. Or more accurately, I'm interested to see what will happen when nobody has any confidence in USA's ability to repay debts, and as a result everyone demands up front payments from them.

hey genius, the US military can defeat the rest of the world put together by lunchtime.

It is common knowledge amongst those with more than a few brain cells strung together that the US can print as much money as it ever wants...

Gee I hope the word 'genius' isn't a 'slur' :o

fiedler (1293 D)
13 Jan 17 UTC
oh I should probably make the point sharper for the duller - nobody is ever going to call teh US on their loans - they have no suasion to do so.

Printing more money would cause severe inflation, and it's simply not good practice to keep accumulating debt. It's called fiscal responsibility. I've heard of lots of people who borrow to pay back debt in a never-ending cycle. It never ends well.
fiedler (1293 D)
13 Jan 17 UTC
It never ends well - because someone calls them on their debts.

When you have inflation then pay rates naturally increase to compensate. Some people win, some lose.

Going Away Game for the World Map
I wasn't a huge fan of it, but we should do a going away game for the World Map, similar to the Inaugural Known World 901 game we're running. Same deal, we get a mod to make the game the last one before they officially shut it off.

Known World 901 quirk:
I'm currently participating in two ongoing games on the new world map. 15 different empires to start, so I should have a 1/15 odds of drawing any empire. I drew the same empire twice in a row... That should be a 1/225 occurrence if the draws were random, or even less if it weights other empires higher after I've drawn that specific empire (to increase variety, which I believe mods have confirmed happens, at least in Classic). Should I play the lottery, or is this a bug?
