Krellin,
sometimes it isn't about *slugging it out* or whatever. Sometimes it is about the atmosphere. Men and women would get treated differently on this forum and don't try to deny it. And, since they would get treated differently, they might get treated in a way no-one would like to be treated, and leave.
You try to tie every discussion of equal opportunities into your belief in the whole "helping people is condescending" mentality. We know women don't need us to fight their battles. We were expressing sorrow that none decided to stay around here for too long. Calling for equality is not an expression of "these people can't do it themselves" it is an expression of "I agree with these people that they have equal rights". If a minority is being treated unequally, it is a problem for the entire society and not for the minority. Sometimes, the minority simply doesn't have the political power to free itself, and the rest of society does need to help. Your mentality blames the victims for "not trying hard enough" or denies their oppression entirely "clearly, they're okay, since if they weren't, they'd do something".
I agree with you that there are areas of the internet not hostile to women. I don't think we'd be hostile to women. I do think we'd behave in an obnoxious manner, conflating a person with "women" in general.
I agree that women are treated better than ever. Most minorities are. That doesn't mean we don't live in a society dominated by white males. Look at our political representation. Doesn't seem to be 50% women in congress, huh? How about major minorities? Are those represented politically? The LGBT community? None of these are present in the concentration they appear in in reality. Instead, we have white men there.
