Watching Primer again for about the 5th time. Still not sure I understand it completely. If you like time travel or movies that really make you think, I'd highly recommend Primer.

Sci Fi / Virtual Reality /Nano Stuff
Just read a sample download of "Ready Player One"...looking for a good sci-fi pub. Seeking modern sci-fi, virtual reality, but not old William Gibson crap. Let's talk sci-fi, peeps. (fyi: As a writer, I'm fascinated by the whole nano/embedded computer system stuff...it's what I'm writing about.)

I'm fairly new here and figured out most things. Having played diplomacy before helped, but I've got a couple of questions that I don't find answers to in the FAQ's.

Its time for a Webdiplomacy app
I think the time has come for a webdip app. Honestly, this is my favorite website, and it would make it a lot easier for many people to have this site as an app. Preferably compatible for both Apple and Android

I just wanted to say that I think the internet looks incredibly weird without ads. I don't like the change and I am thinking of reverting back.

Thoughts?

Portuguese skeptic, Francisco Sanches (1551-1623), from "That Nothing is Known"
Enjoy this excerpt. I transcribed it out of a philosophy textbook a few years ago. Since then it has been one of my favorites. I should note that I actually do agree, yes. I do not think true knowledge is possible.

Since this forum seems generally agreeable to Gay Marriage under the concept of equal protection...should gay couples also be covered and treated for Infertility - the inability to have children, just as a heterosexual married couple?

The majority of my family members in the private sector have been laid off at one time of another. Temporary discomfort? Sure...and then you examine your household budget, your learn to be frugal, and you look for a new job and move on like a decent. self-reliant human being, instead of a government tit-sucking asshole like Thucy.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

@krellin

You were not asking if the Sequester was good or bad, you asked if anyone has noticed it. I think the answer to that is clearly "yes".
krellin (80 DX)
07 Apr 13 UTC
Abgfe - fair enough. My other question still stands, as it was a follow up question to your answer.

"Most non-governmental indsutries - for example the auto industry,..."

Yeah, remember that thing...what was it?...oh yeah, the Auto Bailout...
Draugnar (0 DX)
07 Apr 13 UTC
@abge - Unfair call there. Only two of the manufacturers took the bailout *and* they paid every bit of it back. Unlike the banking industry.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))

So what? 2 of the 3 biggest car companies in America still took the money. It doesn't matter that they paid it back. They got to play by different rules. To use them as an Anti-Government Capitalist example is pure BS.
krellin (80 DX)
07 Apr 13 UTC
Abgemacht - the automotive "bailout" was what normally would be called a "structured bankrupcy". They happen *ALL THE TIME*. Keeping close to the GM family...ever hear of Delphi? They, too, went bankrupt and restructured. the airlines have done it.

Lame argument, at best.

Also, in regardfs to the discussion of Sequestration and cutting government spending, the "bailouts" were actually a government investing in a business, with the purpose and intent of making money on the back end when they sold of the stock.

It was unprecedented...and unnecessary given that we have bankrupcy laws in place which could have accomplished the same thing...and it has nothing to do with a budget discussion.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
07 Apr 13 UTC
I'm really not interested in discussing the merits of the Sequester, I was merely answering your question from the OP.

krellin (80 DX)
07 Apr 13 UTC
Also - in the event the GM failed, for example, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, BMW, KIA, etc...ALL of whom have design centers, manufacturing facitilites, etc IN the US would have filled in the gap. Would it have been a painful transition? yes, of course. It was anyway. But the notion that every job lost would have been lost permanently is complete bullshit. Despite the rhetoric of politicians, we do NOT live in a static economy. When one business fails, the products it provided that others *liked* get picked up by other companies, who proceed to grow in respond to the additional demand for product.

Example: Twinkie disappeared of the shelves one day when the company went belly up. Guess what? In the store the other day, there are now three different brands prducing a Twinkie-like product on the shelf now....meaning three different manufacturing lines producing this product...I can argue that the loss of Twinkie added more jobs than it lost (if I were a douche bag i could argue that...but I won't...lol)
Fasces349 (0 DX)

To all those people bitching about the sequestor being to large. I want to remind you that the sequestor wasn't a cut in spending, but a cut in the growth of spending.
krellin (80 DX)
07 Apr 13 UTC
Abge - sigh....OK...that's a cop out " I'm really not interested in discussing the merits of the Sequester" You know that answer the yes/no question is going to lead to discussion.

and...Imy follow up question about whether or not lay-offs are always a bad thing is not directly related to Sequestration per se...pretend it is a general philosophy question...how about that?
krellin (80 DX)
07 Apr 13 UTC
@Fasces - Bravo brother! One of the few with a clue! After Sequestration, the budget still grew overall!
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
07 Apr 13 UTC
It's not a cop-out. You're changing the discussion and I don't feel like participating. I'm not required to continue talking every time someone on this Forum decides to change topics.
krellin (80 DX)
07 Apr 13 UTC
lol Abge, are you feeling a little pissy tongiht? lol Of course you aren't required to continue talking. Yes, I changed the discussion. It's a related change of topic, flip side of a coin if you will....if you don't want to talk about it, that fine. I suspect it's because admitting the truth goes against your normal stance on government. :P <poke...prod...>

heh heh....just kidding. I'll let it go. And damn...apart from the whole Thucy thing, I was trying to be, like, normal and calm and stuff...
