Hate to post this here but...
There was another web diplomacy site that looked almost identical to this one but had a beige background and it was basically beta testing new maps. It had Germany 1648, Shogun and a fantasy map with hobbits and pirates and many other variants, anyway I was wondering if anyone had the web address or knows if it is still around. I deleted my bookmark for it unfortunately. Sorry for being so vague but any help would be appreciated.

Only one exclamation point for non-submitted orders?
This is in an ongoing, non-anon game. I've taken a small screen cap. Any clues why there's only one instead of two exclamation point?

Climbing up a slide is "wrong?"

What kind of puritan are you. Jesus Christ.
SacredDigits (102 D)
02 Aug 12 UTC
Climbing up a slide is definitely wrong, especially when there's kids waiting to go down it.
If someone is waiting to go down it sure. Any other time I think saying climbing up a slide is "wrong" is the result of a stick stuck firmly up your ass.
SacredDigits (102 D)
02 Aug 12 UTC
When you're in the act of climbing up it, you might not have any idea that someone is coming down it or waiting to come down it, especially if it has a long ladder or is curved.
and finally, this ""entitlement generation" bull shit is exactly that, bull shit. I can't tell you how many friends and acquaintances have moved across the world away from family, friends, and their life just to find work. Young people are doing all they an to cope with the job market. Only people like Krellin who had it easy think otherwise.
Octavious (2701 D)

Climbing up a slide is wrong, but nowhere near as wrong as bouncing a smaller child clean off the seesaw, which again isn't quite as wrong as talking someone who clearly isn't ready into attempting to jump off a swing in full flight. All jolly good fun though, and important life lessons :).

Santa, as usual, you jackass, you have ZERO reading comprehension skills. I NEVER SAID Asians are racially wired to succeed, and I **SPECIFICALLY TALKED ABOUT CULTURE***. God what a flaming jackass you are...and in YOUR case, this is a HARD -WIRED attribute of your being, moron.

"what are people observations regarding other cultures and gender? " JACKASS.
krellin (80 DX)
02 Aug 12 UTC
Santa - if you spent more time reading and trying to rationally discuss things, instead of just attacking people you don't like, you would probably get much farther in teh world. Must be that giant white chip on your shoulder.
"Santa, as usual, you jackass, you have ZERO reading comprehension skills. I NEVER SAID Asians are racially wired to succeed, and I **SPECIFICALLY TALKED ABOUT CULTURE***. God what a flaming jackass you are...and in YOUR case, this is a HARD -WIRED attribute of your being, moron. "

I noted that Al Coholic. What I said, if you could read through your beer goggles is that what you said is not racist, and people wont think its racist, so stop pretending you are saying something edgy when you claim asian american culture sets them up to succeed in certain areas.
"And as usual you are a drunk idiot. Despite the massive chip on your shoulder, it isn't racist to say that Asians succeed because Asian American culture gives them the tools to succeed. It is racist and idiotic to say Asians succeed because of some RACIAL wiring that makes them better at X Y or Z. So, no you aren't being edgy despite how hard you try. "

Look at it again when the hangover wears off.

Krellin, I appreciate that you want Santa to focus on issues rather than irrationally people he dislikes. It's a nice sentiment.

Hey now, I only hang out here all day when my client's don't have any work for me at that moment. I just finished a shit load in the last three days (which is why my silence has been a bit prnounced) but I do work my ass off when there is work to be done. I'm just good enough that I do 4 hours work in 1 hour on a regular basis and my clients love me for it, considering I bill out at $200 per hour (wish I got to keep that).
krellin (80 DX)

@Friendly....so...that was you being what? A kettle, or a pot....moron.

And...more to the point, the implication in the "pot calling the kettle black" is that BOTH are black. You, unfortunately, haven't learned your colors yet...as one of the items inthe pictures was silver.....FAIL

It's entirely possible that I am making subtle jokes at your expense...

....probably not though.

I am most likely just unintelligent.
Maybe the Board of Tourism should try: Visit Michigan, we've got a lot of white girls with high school degrees named Jessica!
Back to the purpose of the thread, I'll try to share what I've observed at my college.

Being in D.C., I go to quite an international school, compared to others. We don't have very many Asian students, and those that we do have are either A) Diplomat's kids or B) Japanese students who either shut themselves in and are never seen or go wild partying.

Arab students are almost exclusively in the business school, I have found. A few of the diplomat's kids (there are a few Saudis - as in royal family Saudis - at the school) go to the International Relations school. In fact, if its a diplomat's kid, 95% is that its the International Relations school. As for my own major - economics - all white males. A few white females, yes, but mostly white males.

I've found that those from minority groups who are more likely to be discriminated against are also more likely to go into political Science. European exchange students go everywhere, so its hard to generalize them.

But you know, it really depends on what the school is known for and its demographics, you know? It could be one way at my school and completely different at another. Certain colleges in my university are more diverse because they're the better schools - what the university is really known for. The other colleges hold the rest of the students, the ones who pay full tuition and aren't given huge scholarships to up the school's prestige. Who has the money to pay full tuition? In general, whites and rich foreigners. It skews things somewhat

As a student in Shanghai, I am not surprised by your findings, krellin. The culture of academic achievement among Koreans, Japanese, Chinese and ethically related people (Taiwanese, Chinese Singaporeans, etc.) is in stark contrast to the very mixed bag found in the US. I bb it has nothing to do with innate intelligence, or coming from a rice culture as Malcolm Gladwell so absurdly asserts. I believe it has much more to do with "tiger moms" who, having reached a critical mass within their respective cultures, absolutely drive their kids to succeed academically. Not a value judgement here as much as an observation. Take a "Jessica" out of the hospital at birth and give her to a "tiger mom" in a culture where grades determine status and Jessica will often ecome a Liao.

Qin, have you been to 枣子树 ? Best restaurant in Shanghai, imo.
krellin (80 DX)
03 Aug 12 UTC
@Qin -- 100% agree. Growing up, my friends from various cultures had (what I can now see...) were predictable emphasis on education.

The question remains: IS the US headed for too few engineers, doctors, etc, as foreigners come to the US, get their education, and then take it back home? Do we need to do more to stress to US citizen of ANY culture that they should pursue science, Engineering, software, medicine, etc in order to keep our country equipped with talent, instead of training and exporting it overseas?

For example, *many* Indians come to the US, get trained, their Visa expires and they ogo back to India where they get well paid (for India) to do software development for the US....for which they are paid half rate costs to replace US workers....that being said, their quality is often/usually NOT as good as local US developers, and requires rework -- thus eating some cost savings, and ruining schedules, etc....

Anyway....just more thoughts...
krellin (80 DX)
03 Aug 12 UTC
Putin--- once again, just like Satan Claus --- you TOTALLY miss the point. YOu DID make it about me, when it is not. Fucking moron. But, because jackasses like YOU will *always* call me a racist if I bring up a legitimate race issue - I confronted the issue head on to start in an attmept to dispell it....which was foolish, because the REAL fuckingf race-baiters like you will ALWAYS pul out the race card and try to divert the discussion...especially when you are in the wrong...as you are now.
krellin (80 DX)
03 Aug 12 UTC
BTW .... Putin says the Vietnamese, etc, don't share in this "myth" of educational blah blah blah. Demonstrating, of course, his ***complete ignorance*** of Asian culture.

Putin...I dare you to do this....Go up to a Korean and ask him how Tokyo is inthe spring. If you escape without your ass being kicked, I'll buy you a beer....but most liekly, the Korean will kick you ass because you are a self-centered ignorant fuck from the US who thinks anyone from Asia is the same. It the equivalent of saying "Hispanic" applies to anyone with slightly dark skin...Cuba, Spain, Mexico, etc.....Again, Call a Pureto Rican a "cuban" and see if you can walk away unharmed.

You display your complete ignorance of culture with your ignorant comment, you fucking moron.
Putin33 (111 D)
03 Aug 12 UTC
What on earth are you talking about?

You're the one who made this about race, as in the Asian 'race' is more educationally successful or geared to succeed for "cultural" or whatever reasons. This entire discussion reduced 'Asian' to mean Indian, and northeast Asian, completely ignoring the people from countries in Southeast Asia who dwell below the poverty line with fewer of their number graduating from college than average.
SacredDigits (102 D)
03 Aug 12 UTC
I've actually read that medical doctors are in larger droughts in places like, say, Pakistan because that's a field that's so much more lucrative in the US and you can definitely find a job that'll help you with visas and naturalization in the US after you go to school in the US for it. I had a good friend who was first generation American, his parents were both Pakistani and met in the US while going to med school. That has nothing to do with anything except to explain why that was the random country I chose.

Basically, if you have the wherewithal to become a doctor and you're from...someplace that's not really high in terms of HDI, it's extremely likely that you'll go on to practice in the country you trained in rather than come back home.
