PUSSY PHOTOS

Ok, so I've just used my Nikon D5000 to take some photos of my cat and they've come out really well - some really characterful shots and the camera takes photos beautifully. Is anyone else interested in photography? Fancy discussing and sharing tips?

Since I guess I'm back...

Old school (pre major graphics):
TacOps (hard to find tactical modern combat simulator), the Civ series in general (including Alpha Centauri), and the 5-star General series (some great combat simulation).

Better graphics but standalone games (some a little older):
Wing Commander, Star Fleet Command and SFC II.

Modern multi player (PC)
Star Trek Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic

Platform (XBox/PS2/etc, some PC mixed into the series)
Halo series, Gears of War, Star Wars Battlefront, all of the Lego games (they are just plain fun!)

SystemShock 2 is one of my all time favs. Way out of date, but for those bioshock fans: Bioshock was the 'spiritually successor' of system shock 2 (because the license to SS was broken up amongst a whole team of people and impossible to get back together to get the rights to make another).
Bioshock fans would probably also like DeadSpace series if you can deal with the switch from FPS to third person.
And if you can do third person, my fav series is the Mass Effect series (though the ending to the 3rd one pretty much doesn't make sense and SUCKS).

Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos + Expansion : The Frozen Throne.

What Vaftrudner said about Europa Universalis 3. Love that game.

Hearts of Iron 3 and Civilization IV also go down well (I'm mostly into strategy games).

If I don't want a strategy game, then either F1 2011 or Far Cry 2.

TF2 is good, also its free.
Regarding the TW series, if you have Nappy, don't buy Empire. I would just stick to the older titles anyway, due to modding potential.

No One Lives Forever 2. Someone recommended it in a Slashdot thread long, long ago, and I bought it, and it's pretty awesome. FPS, but you can do some missions either as a run-and-gun or as a sneak-in-shadows and evade strategy.

Also, it's funny, in an Austin Powers sort of way.

@jamiet99uk - Carrier Command was my favourite Atari ST game.
@puma - Empire on the VAX - I had a copy of that cross compiled for a (Dos) PC some 20 years ago. On a 1512 it would sometimes take 20 minutes to work out it's moves.
@Draugnar - Wing Commander, Star Fleet Command and SFC II. Brilliant choices! Adding MechWarrior and Elite would complete my list.

@Speaker - I just forgot MechWarrior, but love it. I played it in the big simulators at Dave and Busters years ago, where you went head to head against a half dozen or so of your friends. I kicked ass at it in the full size sim format.

to arbitrary. everyone likes different types of games.

I prefer the grand strategy games which focus on realism and complexity over balance. Stuff likes Hearts of Iron, Victoria and Total War.

Hellenic Riot, have you tried the Crusader Kings series? It's nowhere near as good as EU3 or Vicky, but it's still a lot of fun. You don't play a country, you play a dynasty, and it's in a feudal setting with emphasis on personalities. I'm playing an Irish dynasty in CK2 now. One of my latest kings was a lustful, arbitrary, cruel, homosexual crusader with three wives (two of them murdered) and only daughters.

Haven't. Looks intersting, but I'm not very good at naval warfare. It's quite complex and difficult to understand, though in TOAW it is almost non-existent.
