Wonderful World of Warfare: A WorldDip game for talkers.
Hello everyone! I just created a world game in hopes that we can get a fun, clean game together. The meek and anti-social need not apply.

Off-topic: Browser Game
I've been playing a little browser game that lets you built up a squad of soldiers and customize them in order for them to fight automatically against other opponents.
It's quite nifty overall if you get into it and only take a couple of minutes each day.

Credibility issues after stabbing
Hey everyone,
I had a little issue I was curious about on stabbing: is that really the path to winning this game? I always find it a waste of good faith-building in an alliance to resort to simple terrain nicking at some point when you have so many more options (see follow up):

Argh! The first two games I play on here, two powers failed to submit Spring 1901 orders, which really fucks things up. :( I wish there was some sort of penalty for this or that webdiplomacy would send emails when a game starts and when you have orders due...

Really sorry about the delay with game three. It will happen as soon as we figure out the technical issue with replacing this one player. I think we're going to forgo the 4th game (round 2 only has 3 anyway), that way the first leg will be done by end-June, leaving July for the second leg and August for the finals.

Ok, this may sound dumb, but I can't figure it out. Does central America on the world board have a panama canal? It doesn't have a costal designation so is it possible to move from the east side of south America to the west side through there?

This is part of a larger work I'm working on, so please bear that in mind, this is NOT meant to be a stand-alone piece...I'll be posting the section I have here in three parts, plus a short "Prologue" just to explain what this is all about. 200001: A Past Legacy
Every human life on Earth, tomorrow, suddenly vanishes. Mankind is gone for good. But you learn that by the year 200001, either the Apes will rise, or space aliens will come along...SOMEONE will populate Earth once more, and wonder who used to live here. You build a Mt. Mankind: 10 Heads of anyone who's ever lived, and one relic/piece of work of theirs to tell the future who humans were. Who, and what, do you choose?

"The people who are in prison for drugs are in prison for distributing large quantities of drugs and many of them are there due to past offenses or other violent offenses to boot."

Those violent offenses happen because the gangs fight to control the lucrative drug trade. Dry up the money by letting legit companies sell drugs cheaper at gas stations or dedicated pot shops and you'll eliminate the reason most young people get into the drug trade to begin with: easy cash.

Wow...you people really don't grasp the idea of the question posed, do you? He didn't want the "Put you'll go to jail!!!!" answer. In a perfect world, it would be legal, right next to the vile drug alcohol, and you could grow it in your backyard next to the tomatoes, and therefore nobody would go to jail (unless they abused it....JUST LIKE ALCOHOL...) and no terrorists would be supported *BECAUSE YOU GREW YOUR OWN*.

Therefore....if you are concerned about funding terrorists, you really ought to be in SUPPORT of legalising pot so that people could grow their own and defund them, right?

So...PUTIN??? Little bitchy, whining, govern-owns-you-all-Putin....you SUPPORT legalising pot, right? Because you hate terrorists and would like to see pot grown locally instead of being imported at the profit of terrorist organizations??? Hmmmmm????

And Putin....my dear fool....do you likewise support making alcohol ILLEGAL? Because, when abused, it has NO social value, right? Drunk drivers, fights, all that crap? So you are AGAINST legal alcohol, Putin?

Come on, Putin....let's show just an IOTA of consistent thought!! Or is that too much to ask of a communist????
krellin (80 DX)
29 Aug 11 UTC
@Putin: Prisons are full of people imprisoned for dealing LARGE qunatities of drugs.....who....if you got your head out of your ass....would be doing it LEGALLY and NOT be in jail. Just like ALCOHOL distributors....of which there are at least *3* huge warehouses within 5 miles of my house.... So, MASSIVE distribution of alcohol....a *terrible*, addictive, poisonous drug....is OK with Putin....but Pot is not????

Putin uses crime statistics....but the crime is imaginary. If alcohol distribution is legal, and alcohol use is acceptable, then pot....a far LESS harmful drug...should be legal. By ANY form of logic our laws make no sense...and therefore the laws against pot are ridiculous...and therefore our prisons full of drug dealers that SHOULD be legit business men are a sham....
krellin (80 DX)

You all know Putin probably doesn't drink, either. Being a good communist, he enjoys his Saturday night by enslaving a local child into forced labor for a bite-sized piece of candy....and by candy I mean...well, we won't get in to his sexual picadillos....but by bite-sized we probably speak the truth....
Invictus (240 D)

No need to go there, krellin. Putin33 is monstrously wrong on a great deal of things, but it's totally uncalled for to imply things like that. I'm sure he's as normal a guy as an American communist can be.
Putin33 (111 D)

I'm not sure why the legalizers keep pointing to alcohol as the model. You know that alcoholism's pervasiveness is due largely to its legality? You want to do that for other drugs like marijuana? During the 1970s states were experimenting with decriminalizing pot, most famously Alaska. That failed miserably as states found out that if you do that lots more people will take up the drug.

And if you think marijuana is largely "harmless", then please explain why so many people go to the ER for marijuana related issues.

http://www.nida.nih.gov/infofacts/hospitalvisits.html

And if you have the "legalize & tax" model that Invictus wants you're not going to do anything about the cartels, as they'll simply use the regulation of the drug as a reason to enter the market, much like the cigarette mafia, prescription drug rackets, gun rackets, etc.
krellin (80 DX)

Well, he implies that any pot smoker is a terrorist, does he not? I think a little slander-in-reply is completely called for, since, in his belief system of communism, children are but cogs in the machine, right? If imply anything, it is purely out of ignorance and stereotype.....you know....just like everything Putin has to say about pot-smokers.

I stand by my implications in order to make a point....

If I could only flame up a well-packed bong, though, I probably wouldn't have the energy, or concern, to waste my time insulting Putin.

I wouldn't object. I've said that before. Prohibition did a lot of social good. I could do without the occasional Newcastle. It's a small price to pay for getting rid of public drunkenness and domestic violence. Who here isn't glad we got rid of smoking in public places?
less money will be available if they are merely focusing on skirting regulations, cartels will still lose a huge chunk of the market.
Hugo_Stiglitz (100 D)

Gee, if only we had some previous model of Prohabition in America to use as a basis for our decision

oh wait.....
"Prohibition did a lot of social good."

Putin33 (111 D)

Cartels will be the only reliable suppliers as legal sellers will be limited in what they can produce and sell for higher prices while demand will skyrocket. It'll be like DVDs & books vs bootleg DVDs and books.
Putin33 (111 D)
29 Aug 11 UTC
"Like what?"

Decreased alcohol related diseases, cut the suicide rate in half, decreased domestic violence - which was pervasive at the time, decreased alcohol production and consumption, eliminated the saloons.
it will drive down the prices of the street drugs and any overflow demand would probably be met by mom and pop growing operations. After prohibition bootleggers didnt disappear but they took a huge hit
cite sources please...
I've read juvenile alcohol consumption actually went up, and drinking was nearly as prevalent as before prohibition. I also read there are few reliable statistics
Let's talk less about politics and more about pot. That was the OP intention to begin with.

I have used marijuana once or twice, but I like alcohol better. The main difference is that alcoholic beverages tend to be rather tasty (think: whisky, Belgian beers, cognac, etc.), whereas marijuana just stinks.

If you want a mellow sensation, try drinking strong beers where they keep the yeast in the bottle (according to google it's called post fermentation).
you can say that less people died from alcoholism, but how many more died because of open warfare in the streets over bootlegging? How much power did bootleggers gain?

Idea for a new betting system: % instead of # of points
I'd like to suggest a new option in which the required bet for a game is an equal percentage of a player's total points (including those in play) instead of a set number of points. In practice, the relative investment for all players would be more equal and could encourage underdogs to take on the richest players on the site.
