You initially said to put him on Airforce One. Big 747 painted with the seal of the President of the United States and only using the radio call sign "Airforce One" when he is actually onboard. Seems like anyone in control of the hijacked airplanes could readily lock onto that target and know *exactly* where he was, to within 320,000 cubic feet of airspace (800x20x20, rough cabin dimensions off the top of my head) and he would have been so vulnerable to a mid air collision. The President is never more vulnerable than when he is aboard Airforce One.

You're not getting it. Attacks of this nature take time to plan. They chose very specific flights for their timing and proximity to their targets. Any intelligence person worth half his pay grade would know that one day is not enough time for the terrorists to completely change their plans and target a school instead of the White House.

If anything, the real conspiracy owuld have been that the Secret Service and CIA *knew* he was a target and convinced him to go to the school while delaying the announcement until the day before, hoping the terrorists (being unable to change their plans) would still hit the White House (as they may have tried) and turn public opinion even more against AQ for narrowly missing the President.

My apologies - I came to the conclussion you meant to get him out of the entire area by putting him on Airforce One. After all, he was in Sarasota, FL, so presumably they could follow the biggest, blackest limo if they could change their plans to hit a school so many states away form their inital target with just a days notice. Looking at the school, it appears to be a one story brick construction in a suburban area. That's a hard target to hit, not a major landmark with open air around it like the WTC or Pentagon. Brick construction and inside pictures show not a lot of windows for snipers to shoot him through either. It was, in short, essentially a bunker with the Secret Service on the case. They wait it out there, make sure there's no threat, then move in an orderly fashion. Best call.

Seriously, I greatly dislike GWB and would believe a lot of terrible things about him, but he definitely did not allow 9/11 to happen or sit calmly because he knew he wasn't a target. He sat calmly because (and damn you for making me say this about President GW Bush, Krellin) it was the right decision.
