Ever seen a 17/17 finish in a gunboat?
Just curious. If there is one on record can I get a link?

Wonderful World of Warfare: A WorldDip game for talkers.
Hello everyone! I just created a world game in hopes that we can get a fun, clean game together. The meek and anti-social need not apply.

Off-topic: Browser Game
I've been playing a little browser game that lets you built up a squad of soldiers and customize them in order for them to fight automatically against other opponents.
It's quite nifty overall if you get into it and only take a couple of minutes each day.

Credibility issues after stabbing
Hey everyone,
I had a little issue I was curious about on stabbing: is that really the path to winning this game? I always find it a waste of good faith-building in an alliance to resort to simple terrain nicking at some point when you have so many more options (see follow up):

People missing orders
Argh! The first two games I play on here, two powers failed to submit Spring 1901 orders, which really fucks things up. :( I wish there was some sort of penalty for this or that webdiplomacy would send emails when a game starts and when you have orders due...

It is not too late, not an enviable position but a nice challenge. Definitely needed for the game to regain a semblance of balance.

Really sorry about the delay with game three. It will happen as soon as we figure out the technical issue with replacing this one player. I think we're going to forgo the 4th game (round 2 only has 3 anyway), that way the first leg will be done by end-June, leaving July for the second leg and August for the finals.

@Jcbryan...why the hell did you just leave everything to Turkey? I thought I had a chance of soloing with only a single fleet :(. And then England refused to cover off the Turkish fleets either, it was painful to watch.

Perhaps the most deciding moment was when France suddenly abandoned his defense in the Med. Before that I was kinda blocked and a 10 units, while Russia was already at 14. I was afraid he'd take the win. But then France litterally let me walk over him and I could stab Russia consequently.

Thanks for the game guys!

Yeah, I was even kind enough to help you break through there. :(
how about when i sniffed out the juggernaut from the beginning and went to help austria with a delayed barbarosa, only to see that no only was england was confused for taking holland, but Austria too seemed to not understand what was going on and took munich, just unbelievable
id rather 1 guy solo though i think, means more people wont get points

@Hellenic: I wrote a longer response earlier, but it got eaten up by a web error. In short, I tried to create a stalemate line but felt it was impossible with England on me. I decided my best shot was to fall completely back and hope one of three things happened. First, it could have created enough of an alarm that all nations took notice and began to cooperate against the juggernaut. Second, it could have created enough of an alarm that Russia would turn on you. Third, presuming that R/T were not going for a 17/17 split in a gunboat, I wanted to prevent Eng from consuming me and being the third in the draw---I figured lvp was a better place to hide out.

Games 4-e and 3-c are ready to be shuffled. Maybe someone could remind the players there that they are not to finalize their moves until the boards have been shuffled???
ulytau (541 D)

It was repeated many times that finalizing is a no-no. Unfortunately, those who still do it probably won't stop if they read it one more time.
As 1-E's Italy, I have to agree with Santa about the juggernaut. I opened the game planning to attack Austria and then saw Russia and Turkey forming up... So I decided to take a huge risk and re-arrange my forces to defend Austria and attack Turkey. I managed to convoy into Syria, and my plan actually would have worked... Except in Fall 1903, Austria, instead of holding A Trieste (which I was supporting against Turkey's attack) bounced A Trieste off Venice. He lost Trieste and Turkey got a build. If Turkey had not gotten that one build, I WOULD HAVE been able to take Smyrna in the next year without any doubt. Turkey's advance would have been slightly arrested and with any luck Russia might have piled on. Who knows what might have happened?

Haha, can you tell I've been stewing about this since my early elimination?
Ursa (1617 D)
05 Jun 11 UTC
Hm, that's true perhaps. But I did let you in conciously, because I wanted a fleet in AEG. If I didn't have a build I'd have attacked EMS, likely resulting in you getting into SMY. But as you would also have moved ION-AEG to cut support, a lot would've depended on F GRE, either bouncing in AEG - or moving into ION, costing you a center in return.

But indeed, a crucial moment. After that I could just walk over you.

@ Hellenic: well it was good from you to help me at that moment :) But if France hadn't retreated I'd only have taken MAR and perhaps TUN. I don't if that would've helped getting closer to a 17-17 draw. The game is about winning after all :)
Hellenic Riot (1626 D(G))

No, but I used it to buy me time before you stabbed me, I was horribly open in the south at that point. If France hadn't pulled all out I could have garrisoned myself properly in time

I know this is silly, but its so much fun I had to post it.
I mentioned before that I wrote a java applet that takes what countries you all have been previously, sorts you into your next group, and then shuffles into a random country-assignment that you haven't been before. The algorithm isn't very complicated or smart, but it works.

The fun part: I'm not home, so I'm doing all the shuffling from my mobile devices. Loaded the applet into Android and tagged the shuffle method to respond when I shake the phone. So now your names are truly being shuffled! =P

I'm almost done with Game 3's assignments, Game 4 will go quickly because it remembers the assignments from before. I'm also going through and finding out who hasn't joined yet to re-PM them today.

Current Status:

tinyurl.com/gunboattournament
is up to date!

The shuffles are pending for all games, expect them at the moderators' convenience, except:
3-D, waiting on rallinator
3-F, waiting on mr.crispy OR SantaClausowitz (neither responded to the email)
4-A, waiting on rallinator
4-G, waiting on captmiki

They all have PMs waiting for them.

Groups 2-F, 3-B, 4-A check your emails regarding a needed pause next week. (As soon as I send it.)

If you have orders FINALISED in either of your games THREE or FOUR, remove them NOW. You did not listen to me.

Thank you for your patience

Ok, this may sound dumb, but I can't figure it out. Does central America on the world board have a panama canal? It doesn't have a costal designation so is it possible to move from the east side of south America to the west side through there?

Well, krellin posted a story, and asked for honest opinions, and I gave mine...and was askedn, then by fiedler and a few others to submit something of mine, then. This is part of a larger work I'm working on, so please bear that in mind, this is NOT meant to be a stand-alone piece...I'll be posting the section I have here in three parts, plus a short "Prologue" just to explain what this is all about. Critique, enjoy, be hoenst...and God help you all. ;)

200001: A Past Legacy
Every human life on Earth, tomorrow, suddenly vanishes. Mankind is gone for good. But you learn that by the year 200001, either the Apes will rise, or space aliens will come along...SOMEONE will populate Earth once more, and wonder who used to live here. You build a Mt. Mankind: 10 Heads of anyone who's ever lived, and one relic/piece of work of theirs to tell the future who humans were. Who, and what, do you choose?

Idea for a new betting system: % instead of # of points
I'd like to suggest a new option in which the required bet for a game is an equal percentage of a player's total points (including those in play) instead of a set number of points. In practice, the relative investment for all players would be more equal and could encourage underdogs to take on the richest players on the site.
