Spetator Sports
From the thread on Cricket and Baseball there was a discussion on spectator sports, so I thought it may be good to discuss this in a seperate thread.

but lingustically is iceland not close to the three scandanavian countries you listed?

It was like 1000 years ago, but not anymore. A Dane and a Norwegian would be able to understand a Swede speaking Swedish...they would all more or less be able to communicate with each other. However, none of the three Scandinavians would be able to understand Icelandic, and Icelandic people wouldn't be able to understand any of the Scandinavian languages. I think it would be the equivalent of an English speaker trying to understand English from London like over 1000 years ago...if not worse.

The most PC grouping for all of these countries is Nordic...trust me on this one.

And you need to remember it is not just a linguistic grouping but a geographical grouping as well, which Iceland is by no means apart of.

Maybe you should have asked someone who knows something about Europe before coming up with this grouping:

9= Italy/Spain
10= Eastern Europe(Poland, Baltic states, Finland)
11= Central Europe(czech republic, slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania)
12= Former Yugoslavia and surrounds(Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Y.Macendonia, Bosnia)
13= Greece/Bulgaria
14=Cyprus
15=Scanadanavia(Norway, Den and Swe
16= Russia and former republics(you know if u r one)
guy~~ (3779 D(B))

The more I look at it, the more funny it is. Cyprus gets its own number, Spain and Italy get grouped together, and Portugal doesn't even get a mention?

And as for former republics (I am assuming you mean Soviet countries, as some of these countries are currently republics) that all the Baltic states, all the central european states mentioned (minus Austria) are all former soviet republics or satellites.

I really like the idea of doing something like this, but perhaps we should redo the coding and discuss methodology?

1 European (Russia to Iceland, a small part of Turkey which is not in Asia minor)
2 North American
2.1 Canadian
2.2 US (mainland)
2.3 Mexico
2.4 Greenland
3 South/Central American
4 Caribbean
5 Central Asia (roughly Afghanistan - Kazakhstan)
6 Indian subcontinent (including Pakistan and Bangladesh, Bhuthan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka)
7 South East Asia (south of China, East of India, and north of Australia)
8 East Asia (China, Japan, Koreas, Mongolia, Taiwan and Hongkong)
9 Australia and Oceana (including New Zealand).
10 Middle east (Turkey to Iran, to Egypt, but excluding Egypt)
11 North Africa (Anything north of the Sahara)
12 Sub-Saharan Africa (including Madagascar)

i think my divisions of Oceana and south east asia could be a bit ambigious, along with not being entirely sure that Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan should be in the middle east instead of seperating out to the Caucasus.

turkey getting a special place in Europe while neglecting Kazakhstan's place is a bit arbitrary, but is more for historical/cultural reasons than geographic ones.

Sub-Saharan Africa should probably be divided up a bit better but i lack the geography.

Maybe we could use international dialing codes as the numbering system?
Wikipedia breaks it down:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_dialing_codes
Or if we want to make it really simple, just use the zones as specified in the wikipedia article above (for example zone 5 is Mexico, Central America and South America)

The Mt. Rushmore of Sports
The Greeks and Romans honored their heroes in everlasting statues, why shouldn't we, Americans and Englishmen and Canadians and People Today? The Mount Rushmore of Baseball- which for faces? And where to put the site? The same for Basketball, Football (American and that game the rest of the world seems to love so much), Hockey, Olympics. Who are the heroes that should look down from the mountaintops on us forever?

blatant cheating in gunboat games
The cheating in gunboat games is ridiculous. I just got pushed out of one in an obvious way, only to discover at the end that the two players, TeethofFury and lovehate32, play together in most of their games. Multi playing? I don't know, but things are definitely rigged against others when the game is supposed to be anonymous.

A good way to fix this would be to just disable draw votes when there is no in-game messaging.

The EX-Presidents
Jimmy Carter might have been a one-tern-and-out President who's been ridiculed some, but as an ex-resident he's been downright amazing, a model ex=president in my opinion. Who else has been good once out of office? Who's gunked things up?
