@doofman - remind me never to play you in a gunboat. A good gunboat player studies moves closely, sees who is attacking who and who might go after them and makes educated guesses as to what their opponents move might be to counter some and support others. Over time, this becomes an alliance doen WITHOUT communicating and is NOT against the spirit of Gunboat OR Diplomacy but actually quite the opposite.

Draugnar: Co-operation should not be confused with an alliance. Alliances are formal, and only a fool would think they are truly allied with someone in an honest gunboat game. You must always strike when possible and never leave yourself open.

I disagree. You can defend against the possible stab and make yourself so useful that the other player doesn't dare stab you and then you have an alliance of convenience. Kind of like politics making strange bedfellows.

@JECE - the word alliance may imply formality and treaties to you, but there are such things as informal alliances and implied alliances. These are alliances where nothing is said or put on paper, but are still effective. That is what staying prepared for the stab and making yourself useful provides; an informal and implied alliance.

I prefer gunboat alliances than normal one.
Less chance that someone gets mad with me :P

No. You're still missing the point here, because there's nothing wrong with supporting in gunboat games. As for an 'alliance', it depends wholly on the amount of trust and on the skill of being able to predict your 'allie''s moves. Last gunboat I played I was too trusting, I thought Germany and I (I was France) would dismantle Turkey some more before fighting eachother. I was wrong and got stabbed. In all this neither I, nor Germany or Turkey exchanged one word.

i know there is nothing wrong with supporting in gunboats, but the amount of times that it happened in that game- and most importantly where it was always correct, as well as the fact that they were friends at the same high school and the fact that they NMR and Paused and left at exactly the same time clearly indicated that is wasn't simple predictions that were made.

I agree in this game the moves are looking a bit suspicious, and then I mean the moves of England and Germany on France. Best thing, as JECE said, is to email te mods.
