Who needs subs when you have me?
Durga (3609 D)

Yeah come on Bo, we talked about it. I told you that you should handle it by threatening mod kills. Just refusing to sub in people makes the game unbalanced.

I'm sorry, HR, it would simply be nice if the capital-C Council were actually willing to make decisions themselves as opposed to criticize them after the fact, which both ND and Demon have now done in the last few days.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))

Threatening modkills is fantastic, Demon. If there are no available subs, I will, as I believe I said. However, having been a late sub twice, asking a substitute to take over late in a game for any reason other than one outside of the player's control is wrong from a GM standpoint. It wrecks the game for the players, because they can't read the sub, and it is bad for the sub, because they don't want to read 100 pages.

Ezio, the document will be the OP of the actual game.
Durga (3609 D)

That is still better than a straight mod kill which wrecks overall balance, bo.
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 May 17 UTC

Of course, DO, which is why you should like this plan. I'm threatening a modkill to those who feel like dropping out late in the game, and I will actually do it. Give it a quick rational thought and that should dramatically reduce modkills late in the game. Can't play past D2? Don't play at all. Don't feel like playing after D2 anymore? Do it anyway. You wreck the game otherwise.

I also made a concession for things out of the player's control, which is why I was subbed in for reedeer late in whatever game that was - he was in the hospital.
Durga (3609 D)

Is what you think but people don't actually join games with the intention to drop out :/
bo_sox48 (5202 DMod(G))
23 May 17 UTC
(+1)
No, I wouldn't expect so, but mafia is a commitment. If you want to drop out of this game, do it early, when there are available subs and when it doesn't damage the game. If you want to push against the GM's discretion regarding subs in the future, that's your prerogative, and if you don't, then don't try to do so in an unofficial capacity.

@ DO: "I don't think hr would let me"

What is this crap? Since when is HR the boss of you? If you and ND want to make a ruling and HR disagrees, over-rule him.

For my two pennies worth I agree with Bo_Sox.

The summary is:

"...having been a late sub twice, asking a substitute to take over late in a game for any reason other than one outside of the player's control is wrong from a GM standpoint. A situation where a sub is forced to rush to integrate himself into the game and where he cannot be adequately read by other players in the mean time. Subs are rightfully given a little bit of a free pass for what their predecessors did, but from the town's perspective, subbing out late and forcing someone to take over in that position not only throws the game out of whack for the sub because he has so much to catch up on but also for the remainder of the players, since they now have to wait even longer for the sub to catch up and be ready to adequately contribute again. It results in worse gameplay than would otherwise be the case if the original player simply stuck it out, and that often lasts through the remainder of the game. In the first couple of days, it's not as big of a deal because catching up is a lot easier and there is still a lot of information gained in present-time as opposed to looking back at clues that have already been made, so subs can contribute while catching up and be integrated into the game more quickly.

I have absolutely no issue with objections and I'm happy to have the discussion, but despite what was said earlier, I don't really think this will be a situation that comes up barring an emergency of some sort. The chances are lessened even further by having this rule in place. If it happens anyway, then you are looking at a situation where a player that signed up to play the game cared so little about actually pulling their weight and fulfilling their win condition that they are willing to knowingly sabotage their team simply so that they can be done. I don't think anyone that has signed up for this game will stoop that low.

Oh, so bo doesn't like being a sub, so it's suddenly the worst thing ever?

Bo == worst
Bo == sub

Therefore... yes, I could see how being a sub is the worst.

Would homelessness end entirely if people stopped giving homeless money? The Mayor of Omaha, Nebraska has advised citizens to stop giving panhandlers money as they are on the rise. Here they wait by the interstate exit off ramps with signs.is ignoring them a moral decision?

Should Jared Kushner security clearance be suspended?

The DNC, for political purposes obviously, wants to suspend Jared Kushner's security clearance. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason by Jared secretly met with the CEO from VEB, the Russian state-owned bank.
