2. needed memorization of details for context.

the deductions themselves were quite standard. I own a giant book of the original stories published in the Strand and they're all more intelligent. besides, JD Carr was a better mystery writer than even Doyle, and Dr. Fell maybe even a superior detective to Holmes

Eating only plants is specist. Not sure why the animal kingdom gets special treatment over plants, fungi, eukaryotes, and prokaryotes. The latter two are pretty hard to avoid eating occasionally.
It's also futile, little bits of animal tissue (skin cells mostly) end up in even vegetarian food. Sorry if I ruined that illusion for you vegans.

I've found that being vegetarian makes me more willing to make jokes about eating pets and people, which in turn makes people really surprised I'm vegetarian.

I for one have enjoyed cat and dog. Cat is a game meat surprisingly, very lean. Dog is more like pork imho.
