Being pushed 25km in a wheelchair
This crazy Dutch kid just grabbed me and made me sit in a wheelchair. He looked pretty crazy and I figured he was suffering from an overdose of earth radiation so I didn't resist. He then proceeded to run 25km over some very bumpy terrain, with me in the chair, despite my increasingly vocal protestation.

Running 25km, pushing someone in a wheelchair..?
It's one of those crazy thoughts I had. I figured I'd at least get myself informed. I'm now allowed to try it according to the council that matters, although I'd be forced to start in the back and stuff like that.
So I already have the green light in the bank, but can I even do this? Finishing time registration ends after 3 hours, so I guess I'd really want to run it within 3 hours. Possible?

@Bugger

Take a look at the F2F Player guide by Edi Birsan here: https://sites.google.com/site/boroughsdiplomacy/diplomacy-resources

Also, a few of my friends will be playing a game before the tournament for practice as most of them haven't played before. I'll let you know when it'll be when we get closer

Scoring was a bit off last time. Personally, I blame Thucy and Crazy for giving Babak the solo in Game 2.

Alright, I have an outline of the rules. Thanks to JimTheGrey and Lando for their very helpful suggestions, most of which I tried to incorporate Please take a look at them here: https://sites.google.com/site/boroughsdiplomacy/tournament-rules

Obviously, I need to add some more details and whatever, but there's plenty of time for that.

What I'd really like is feedback on the following:

Schedule
Phase Lengths
Scoring

Those are really the most important things and I'd really like people's input. The rest of the nitty grits I can figure out on my own.

Thanks!

Everything seems fine to me. Is it my understanding that the scoring is basically PPSC? I saw a bunch of formula's (or was it chinese?).
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
11 Aug 14 UTC

It's quite different from PPSC. First, if someone solos, only the winner gets points. Second, with this scoring method, you are rewarded much more for more centers then simple PPSC in a draw.
dyager_nh (619 D)
11 Aug 14 UTC
I guess the scoring wont matter to me much since I will be solo'ing all 3 games :-b
MadMarx (36299 D(G))

Bugger, at Boston F2F, the winner was whoever had the most points, and after Babak got a solo on Saturday (obviously against "lesser talent", as a whole, than at the final table), the tournament was his unless someone got a solo at the final table. Pretty anti-climatic, having Sunday be meaningless, after flying out from Oregon. Anyway, I'm proud to have topped the final table, especially since Italy/Turkey/Russia agreed to triple-team me (I was Austria) in the initial diplomacy period before spring 1901... Not that I'm bitter or anything, it was great fun regardless of the outcome, but at the same time, if your going to put a bit of effort to meet up and play the games, it's nice for the final table and the final day to mean something...
yebellz (729 D(G))
11 Aug 14 UTC
I like MadMarx's idea of deciding things within the final game. With how much interest he's showing in this the scoring system of this tournament, you'd think he might be planning to come out for it. However, I guess the procedures used in this tournament also have a good chance of making it into the WebDip FTF of next summer, so more than just the Marlboro participants should be interested.

Make the Saturday games qualification for the top 7 final game on Sunday, then decide the top 7 finishers of the tournament based on performance within just that game. The rest of the players, who didn't qualify for the final on Sunday, will also play in a concurrently-run 3rd game on Sunday, but they will be ranked into finishing positions of 8+ based on their cumulative score across their three games.

Tie-breakers for ranking the top 7: number of SCs (for drawers/survivors), year of elimination (for defeated), and then points accumulated in the first two rounds.
abgemacht (1076 D(G))
11 Aug 14 UTC
(+1)
My only concern with this method would be a dead day 2, as anyone not on the final table knows they have no chance to win.

2014 Webdiplomacy Tournament
I will start taking signups for the tournament. Here's how it will be different:

There will be a cash buy-in. The amount depends on the number of people that can commit (and buy-in) to the tourney. If I can get at least 25 players, the buy-in is $10. This would allow me to use the proceeds to purchase plaques for the top 3 places and best country awards. The remainder ($50-$100) would go to the site as a donation for allowing us to put together this tournament.
