Newbie question
Is it considered bad form to take advantage of the situation when a player appears to have left a game? More specifically is it bad form to resubmit orders just prior to a turn ending when it that player won't be submitting orders? Just wondering about the etiquette of that scenario on this site. Thanks in advance!

Finally got around to reading the big post by NigeeBaby, and take a look at this little nugget towards the end.

"No matter how much water flows under the bridge and no matter how frequently a generation is replaced by new one, the lineage of Paektu will remain unchanged and irreplaceable... Our service personnel and people will never pardon all those who dare disobey the unitary leadership of Kim Jong Un, challenge his absolute authority and oppose the lineage of Mt. Paektu..."

Still more evidence, and straight from the horse's mouth, that North Korea has undoubtedly adopted dynastic, hereditary rule by the Kim family. But somehow this is still communism worthy of Putin33's unquestioned support?

The Order of the Gulag must come with a hell of a lot of perks for him to keep up the charade.

"(In fact the extension of democratic rights to humans formerly enslaved is how slavery was ended.)"

Slavery ended after 600,000 dead, military occupation, and a President who discarded the silly constitution because it got in the way.

If your limited government cannot even keep human beings from race based slavery, then all of your preaching about its supposed superiority in defending rights is absolutely worthless.

"Still more evidence, and straight from the horse's mouth, that North Korea has undoubtedly adopted dynastic"

Do you know what the lineage of Paektu means? Of course not. Once again Invictus declares something obvious when in fact he doesn't have the slightest clue what he's talking about.

"Slavery ended after 600,000 dead, military occupation, and a President who discarded the silly constitution because it got in the way. "

And then the constitution was amended and restored. The suspension of rights didn't last after the crisis was over. Rights were extended to people who had formerly been slaves. (Not always respected, of course, but violating those rights is a crime committed by the state, not the right of the state.)
Putin33 (111 D)
15 Dec 13 UTC
The "restoration" of constitutional government led to the implementation of black codes, which only ended (somewhat) after the federal government vastly expanded its power in the 1960s without any kind of constitutional authorization.

Your limited government has been a miserable failure when it comes to protecting marginalized classes of people from abuse by the privileged.
Invictus (240 D)

"Do you know what the lineage of Paektu means? Of course not."

It means the Kim family. Kim Jong-il was (falsely) claimed to have been born there and it was a center for his father's anti-Japanese resistance. What do you think it means? You don't say.

It's amazing the lengths you'll go to defend a wicked regime like North Korea. Especially since you could abandon it on perfectly sound leftist terms. Again, anti-American/Atlanticist positions are most important to you.
Invictus (240 D)

@Putin33 "Your limited government has been a miserable failure when it comes to protecting marginalized classes of people from abuse by the privileged."

All governments fail to prevent abuse of marginalized classes by the privileged, it's just a matter of who is marginalized and what is the extent of the abuse. In a democratic system the government can be challenged and unjust laws repealed, as we have seen since the 1960s, and the power of the government is limited, even it is misapplied to the extent that it exists. In an authoritarian system, there is no end to the abuse of marginalized people, who typically consist of the bulk of the population apart from the ruling party.

There is less capacity for abuse when power is less concentrated.

@Putin33...

I think it's unfair to label all Fabians as enemies of the left. For example, in Australia, the Hawke/Keating years are now viewed by all on the left and right as the reason behind Australia's current position.

Both are life long members of the Fabian Society.

Also, it is worth noting, English socialists (especially those not from the north) are less radical than their continental equivalents. It IS hard to be an opposition to the jackboot AND have cups of tea every half hour.
Invictus (240 D)

I just imagine Putin33 scuttling through the whole Internet trying to find some evidence, any evidence, that the regime he's making out to be a paragon of true socialism isn't really a monarchy where dynastic rule is enshrined in law. His silence shows he must not have found any.
NigeeBaby (100 D(G))

"Also, it is worth noting, English socialists (especially those not from the north) are less radical than their continental equivalents."

Don't get angry, get even. Look at the damage self-proclaimed Socialist Arthur Scargill did for the working class movement because he was a complete arrogant twat !!

shadowplay (2162 D)
16 Dec 13 UTC
@NigeeBaby;

True, but Tony Blair did more damage to the working class movement than Arthur Scargill ever did. Scargill was a supporter of Stalinist policy and utterly inept at dealing with the very persuasive arguments of Thatcher. He was also perpexingly against Lech Walesa and solidarity whilst Thatcher, ever the opportunist, supported and even nurtured it.

Tony Blair endorsed many elements of Thatcherism which has led to the decline of both the English middle AND working classes.

Having said all that, Putin33's original contention regarding Fabians has merit as has your perspective of "don't get angry, get even".

Overall, I think when the Tortoise is united in solidarity with all other elements of socialism, workers and the middle class are better off.

*Hopes this doesn't start an internet flame war.

Mt Paektu is the historical cradle of the Korean nation. It is a holy site for Koreans on both sides of the demilitarized zone. The phrase "lineage of Mt Paektu" refers to the Korean race, not to the Kims exclusively.

"Look at the damage self-proclaimed Socialist Arthur Scargill did for the working class movement because he was a complete arrogant twat !!"

Wow you bash Scargill and the Soviet Union but have nothing but love for inherited wealth.

Thanks for proving my point.

"I think it's unfair to label all Fabians as enemies of the left"

Not all because Fabianism is sufficiently heterogeneous that virtually anybody could be called a Fabian. I find it interesting that some of the early Fabians had nice things to say about the USSR (Beatrice Webb for example). A pity that perspective got lost somewhere along the line.
Invictus (240 D)
17 Dec 13 UTC
Bull. The term is used to describe the family in North Korean propaganda. You're refusing to take the regime you support at its own word. The lineage line is not some fluffy appeal to the whole Korean people, it's the co-option of the Korean people's *mythical* place of origin to bolster this dynastic claim.

North Korea is a monarchy. The Kims are your Windors.

Proof.

DailyNK is a well-known anti-DPRK propaganda site, funded by US money.

But naturally you'll treat its dubious (and always anonymous) sources as objective fact.
Invictus (240 D)
17 Dec 13 UTC
I wonder if you're denying the fact that North Korea is now officially a monarchy with leadership a hereditary right of the Kim family because you're really that stupid to not see what's blatantly obvious or because you're really that committed to democratic centralism.

Both make sense.
Putin33 (111 D)
17 Dec 13 UTC
I wonder if you honestly give a damn if the DPRK was ruled by a member of the Kim family or one of the top generals.

I doubt it. This is just posturing from an imperialist lackey who loves vilifying any government that isn't a US puppet.
Putin33 (111 D)

I love vilifying countries that have gulags. What kind of countries do you like to vilify?
Putin33 (111 D)
17 Dec 13 UTC
Countries that bomb and destroy other countries for their resources. You know, the ones you claim are moral beacons to the world.

A Republican complaining about prisons is always rich, though. At least in the *actual* Gulags they got paid a wage and prison terms were on average, short.

Money Philosophy
Liberals: Always focused on how to get other people's money, how to take money away from "rich" to give to others that have not earned it, but are somehow "owed" it (because they were born).

Conservatives: Focused on how to grow personal wealth, improve one's self and be financially self-reliant so as to not burden others.
