Remember all those bullets DHS was buying. Well, apparently Obama's DHS is now acting as domestic police...because every tyranical government needs federal police to quell domestic political speech...

Suicide vs homicide
What's worse? I know my opinion, and I feel it's easy to guess, but I'm curious what you guys think. I'm talking both ethically and aftermath. Also, does it make a different if it's 800 people commiting suicide vs 1 commiting homicide, or the other way around? Do circumstances matter? Again, sounds pretty obvious to me but I don't want to influence the outcome.

Why was Landowner banned?
He wasnt a multi. He wasn't a meta since he never played a game. And what does "invalid email" mean? He spoke on the forum about responding to emails...what is the policy for banning someone based on not checking emails? If you go on vacation for a week and don't check, does that result in getting banned?

jmo sees something fishy, can't prove it, abuses a loophole in the system, bans a likely innnocent user.

in related news, jimgov's first response is amazing. i laughed out loud! but i mean, if we're just banning people for no reason......

And I have no doubt that he would have been a valuable member of the webdip community. He probably was once before too ;-)

Is it still a silencing offence to talk about this, now that he has been banned?
philcore, they banned him for not responding to an e-mail. Meaning, the only foul play he participated in was being absent. The way things appear, he is likely an innocent player. When this is proven, you should be banned from this website for repeatedly violating a specifically stated rule: no cheating accusations in the forum.

Thanks, gold.

@Frank - Personally, I would only advocate this hard for someone that I knew. Really knew. I guess this isn't an accusation since he was banned, but the general feeling was that Landowner knew his way around the site pretty well. Knew people that he shouldn't. Couldn't. Like he had been here before. Now maybe if someone knows him in RL and thinks that he just made a mistake and that maybe he could just slide back on and nobody would notice, I would understand. That person wouldn't be committing any breach of site rules. But I would understand that person trying to help a friend get a break. But we should let the mods do their work and if someone is found to be something or someone other than who they claim to be, then let the chips fall where they may.

@lando, cheating accusations is a silencing offense, not a bannable one. Which I did gladly accept for the first time ever with landowner, because it was so obvious. I'm going to take a chance here that the accusation rules no longer apply after it is proven and action is taken, and speak openly about it.

Landowner was clearly not new to the site. He knew people on the site that are longer here. He started the damn thread calling public attention to himself, because the mod squad were already onto him.

He thought he could just bitch about the mods like our currently active, non-cheating members do from time to time and that he would receive public sympathy. But to those of us who respect the mods and think they do a hell of a job, it just prompted research. And a little research even without the tools at the disposal of the mods generated enough suspicion that jmo had to warn everyone to stfu. Which I promptly ignored, because dammit, my opinion is sometimes worth a silencing.

You are on fire tonight phil. Another +1
In the tyranny thread Landowner mentioned he was introduced to the site through someody else, but he did not want to say who since this would expose that person to 'undue scrutiny'. I dont understand why that would be bad, I've introduced several new players to the site and have no problems being upfront about it.

Of course people are innocent until proven guilty, or should be. From the looks of it, the mod team has been on the case from the outset (as all of us have been I think), so the fact that they take is step only now seems to indicate it's not on a whim. And I'm sure if Landowner is legit (to me, he seems to be), and would come clean about how/why he seems to now stuff he couldnt normally, then no doubt he could be reinstated quick.

In fact, this may be a good time for the 'person who introduced him' to come clean to the mods.

@draug; you are wrong, as always.landower last visited on monday night. I'm not sure when the mods last emailed him but I think it was sunday (thens when he pm'd me about the email, in his due dilly)

@all concerned

We do not silence people for cheating accusations against banned members, regardless of the reason. Should they successfully appeal the ban though, it will be a silencing once more. Cheating accusations in the forum is not a bannable offense.

I am continually stunned by the egotistical self worth of the users of this site. You treat the forum and mods like you own them and they are your employees.
Look, they run the site. Deal with it. They get to ban people. Deal with it. They don't need to tell you shit. Deal with it. If you don't like it....leave....I am sure their feelings wont be hurt.

It want his fault that Jana couldn't hang on to his "favorite prize" next time how bout this, jaba ... Try not to make the daughter of a sith lord your sexy slave girl, while employing the services of said sith lord's hand built protocol droid as your butler and a decorated veteran droid of the clone wars as your fucking bartender. Then teach your personal assistant with the snake wrapped around his head to resist the same Jedi mind tricks that your are able to resist. Fickimg dumbass worm!

Side note - mods vs multis would be an AWESOME tower defense game. If Adlerian can program it we could have it as a side feature on our site for people to play while they wait for orders to be finalized.

Let's look at the facts:

- Landowner basically admits to being a multi/sends cryptic messages/causes a lot of suspicion
- Philcore acknowledges this and is silenced
- I complain to the mods and they do nothing
- I ask the details of the case (why Landowner wasn't banned) they say it's under investigation
- Jmo promises to give me an explanation of the case afterwards (cos it looks pretty fishy if philcore was silenced and Landowner is never banned)
- Landowner is banned
- No apology to philcore or update of the case, depite the fact that I am awaiting reply

@Draug,

" Frank, the mods would only be sending you emails if you were active on the site so "I didn't have internet access" would be a total bullshit excuse."

That's not actually true. Sandgoose was on vacation when he got an email about the mods having noticed that another account was his twin, and by the time he checked his email, he was banned (partially for not answering).

Personally, I think that an obviously much fairer rule would be to ban the account if they haven't answered the email by a day after the next time they access their account, rather than having a set day limit.
semck83 (229 D(B))
17 May 13 UTC
(In other words, the rule should be that you're expected to check your email about as often as webdip; not that you're expected to check your email every 3-5 days no matter what, even if you're hiking in the Himalayas).

@SYnapse - You aren't the only one who emailed the mod team about Landowner. So why do you think that you deserve some sort of explanation about this situation? I mean, none of us "deserve" one. Unless the mods change how they operate, which I am NOT advocating, they ban and move on and don't tell the rest of us why. That is how this site operates. And why does philcore deserve an apology? The rule is no cheating allegations on the forum. He made one. Admits it. It doesn't matter if the person he accused is actually a cheater. No cheating allegations on the forum. philcore doesn't seem to be looking for an apology, either.

Hey guys its me again.
I come here with a question. There is in fact a personal story behind this question, but I'm sure you are all tired of hearing my personal stories, so I won't go into that unless people want me to. Anyway, my question is this: Is listening to music on Youtube morally/ethically equivalent to watching pirated movies or bootlegs? If not, what is the difference? Assume that neither the music nor the movie is owned in any other medium.
